Jersey Mike's Rail Videos
Registrace 14. 07. 2006
CZcams channel devoted to the mostly railroad related videos taken on my many outings. While my personal specialty is railroad signaling and interlocking technology there's not too much of that here as such things don't tend to move around and need to be captured in video. Most videos are taken in the Northeast United States, but I do get out on the road a good deal.

Southbound Acela Clears the Block at UNION Interlocking
Due to short signal blocks between UNION interlocking and ISLEN interlocking (at Metropark) it doesn't take long for a southbound Acela Express, led by power car #2015, to travel the distance.
After it passes the fleeted 2W on track #2 changes to Stop and Proceed and stays in that state until the Acela reaches the Milepost 20.7 automatic 1.2 miles to the west, at which point the 2W signal changes to Approach. After traveling another 2 miles the train reaches ISLEN interlocking and 2W changes to the flashing Advance Approach indication.

Doubleheaded Southbound Amtrak Regional at UNION Interlocking
zhlédnutí 169Před 8 hodinami
A southbound Amtrak Regional train passes through the NJT Rahway Station and adjacent UNION interlocking on track #3 with sibling ACS-86 electric locomotives #618 and #617 leading. It was unclear if both were providing power, but typically in this situation one supplies head end power and the other the traction power. UNION interlocking is where NJT North Jersey Coast Line trains split off towa...
Amtrak #660 with Northbound Regional Departs Trenton Track #1
zhlédnutí 108Před 8 hodinami
A northbound weekend Amtrak Regional train led by ACS-86 #660, takes the Limited Clear signal on the 4AE signal and then crosses back over to track #2 via the 12 switch. Unfortunately due to recent re-signaling work there will be no pneumatic hiss as the switch points reset.
Amtrak #650 Arrives Trenton While Signal 1AE Waits on NJT
zhlédnutí 118Před 15 hodinami
Amtrak ACS-86 #650 arrives with a southbound Regional train on Trenton track #4, while a Limited Clear signal is displayed on the FAIR interlocking 1AE signal for the next NJT Northeast Corridor Line departure.
Southbound Acela Splitting Regional and NJT Traffic at Trenton
zhlédnutí 132Před 15 hodinami
Whenever you are at Trenton, a clear signal indication on the westbound track 3 signal mounted on the concourse, that means a non-stopping Acela will soon be in the picture. Here, southbound Amtrak Acela Express trainset with power cars #2024 and #2021 blasts through the Trenton, NJ station on track #3 as a recently arrived NJT corridor train discharges passengers on track #4, while across the ...

zhlédnutí 131Před 15 hodinami
New Jersey Transit GP40PH-2B #4215 leads a northbound Atlantic City Line train out of the Pennsauken Transportation through SAUK interlocking and onto the Delair Bridge past two Approach Medium signals, which are used in place of Clear for speed control purposes.
Amtrak Train 20 DC Union Power Change with Train 29 Shove and VRE Arrival
zhlédnutí 185Před dnem
Never a dull moment at the Washington DC Union Station Lower Level. Here we have northbound Amtrak Crescent Train 20 on Track #24 across the platform from the recently arrived eastbound Capitol Limited Train 29 from Chicago. Train 29 is shoved towards Ivy City Yard by its road power, P40DC #817, before Train 20's P42DC's #144 and #45 are pulled off to be replaced by ACS-86 #668. Just after #668...
Amtrak Train 79 Washington DC Power Change from #664 to #94
zhlédnutí 169Před dnem
Amtrak southbound Carolinian Train 79 performs the power change at Washington DC's Union Station with ACS-86 #664 electric engine being swapped for P42DC #94. Amtrak Regional #174 was boarding from the same platform as Train 79, which created a good deal of foreground clutter.
Amtrak Train 20 Arrives Gainesville with #144 and #45
zhlédnutí 92Před dnem
Amtrak Northbound Crescent Train 20 pulls into the Gainesville, GA stop about 90 minute late with P42DC's #144 and #45 leading. The train was delayed 3 or so hours in Mississippi due to a stopped freight (possibly grade crossing accident).

Nighttime NS manifest freight passing Gainesville, GA on the old Southern Main Line with SD60E's #6999 and #6932. It was night to have some entertainment while waiting for the 90 minute late Amtrak Crescent Train 20.
NS Southbound Manifest Freight takes Diverging Clear a MIDLAND.
zhlédnutí 52Před 14 dny
After having never having witnessed a Diverging Clear signal indication at MIDLAND interlocking, south of the Gainesville, GA Amtrak station, I saw three in one trip with the second being displayed to a southbound NS manifest freight on track #1, led by a pair of AC44C6M's. This would be different from the Diverging Clear I saw on track #2 for Amtrak Train 19 the previous day. Note, in the back...
Amtrak Crescent with #321 and #343 Takes Diverging Clear at MIDLAND
zhlédnutí 272Před 14 dny
Southbound Amtrak Crescent Train 19 led by ALC-42 Chargers #321 and #343 departs the Gainesville, GA station and immediately takes a diverging route at MIDLAND interlocking. More typically Train 19 will receive a Y/G Approach Diverging for a diverging route at CHICOPEE. This is the first time in over a decade of Crescent travel that I have seen a Diverging Clear at Midland.
NS Northbound Manifest Freight at Greensboro Elm St Crossing
zhlédnutí 73Před 14 dny
A northbound NS Manifest Freight moves across the Elm Street grade crossing in downtown Greensboro, NS with 2 4000-series AC44C6M's on the head end. I was just leaving Natty Greene's Pub when the train arrived resulting in me being out of position with a fogged up lens.
Amtrak Train 19 Arriving Greensboro with ALC-42 Chargers.
zhlédnutí 483Před 14 dny
Southbound Amtrak Crescent Train 19 pulls into the Greensboro Station about 90 minutes late with Amtrak ALC-42 Chargers #321 and #343 on the head end. This was the first time I had encountered a Crescent with Chargers.
Amtrak #94 with Train 79 at Greensboro Elm St
zhlédnutí 169Před 14 dny
Amtrak P42DC #94 leads southbound Carolinian Train 79 across the Elm St grade crossing and then from H-Line track #1 to Southern Main Line track #2, getting an uncommon R/R/G signal on the southbound signal bridge at ELM interlocking. The former Southern uses weak route signaling, not speed, so instead of Slow Clear this simply indicates an alternate route. Although the route from H1 to Main 1 ...

Billy Rodny my. Man. 500. School. 800. Kids.
I like trains.
This crossing malfunctioned in mid-February 2015, and did it again on 1/19/24.
Interesting how you are tracking it so closely.
i must say bro great job on this,,its appreciated
man that window is filthy
money people in westfield
i know there's a lot of bodies buried in this area
what type of engine is this diesel electric? im a model rail road enthusiast, i have all the nj central and lehigh valley engines,,sorry i see you mentioned this
Enjoyed this very much. Looks like it was a hot day. I like seeing the trains switch tracks. Thank you.
Quality on this one wasn't great, but there were extenuating circumstances.
Silver Palm?
The Crescent
I operated Amtrak trains out of Union Station in the early eighties as a Conrail engineer/fireman. It was simply the best time of my life, and I enjoyed the runs to NYC also. I was a young newlywed and I would bring my wife with me. The porters in the cafe car would wait on her better than us (operations crew). On our days off, we lived in a cottage two blocks from the ocean in Wildwood Crest, NJ. I worked every third day or seven trips a month with a five day break. My average pay was $1,200 a week with a net of $940. take home. It doesn't get any better than that.
I can see the chicken wire, but also fans taking pix!
❤
That would terrify me to death to have a train honk at me while I’m running to get to the platform, some people just don’t know when to use their brain
Oh no the horn is changed
This was from 12 years ago?
That is McLean to East Falls Church you mixed up the titles with the video Wiehle Reston East to Spring Hill
Ha, you're the first to notice.
That is Wiehle Reston East to Spring Hill. You mixed the titles of your two videos
Why did you booo lol?
Garbage engine, European builder.
You've operated them befote?
I watched the whole thing over three days in July 2024. Very interesting work.
Thank you!
That is Caltrain local 431
As in train number, correct?
@@PositionLight Yes (sorry for the late reply)
NS 6347 is an SD40E and nice video!
Thank you xD
55:00 - My 1985 NEC ETT shows Bryn Mawr in service 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily except Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays.
Correct, 2 shifts daily.
45:30 - I remember back in the early 1990s I was getting interested in interlocking systems for my model railroad and I wrote to General Railway Signal (I follow B&O practices) in Rochester, NY inquiring about the availability of the GRS Signal Buttons (push to clear, pull to cancel, with a lighted arrow in the center). I got back a very nice letter stating that the parts were still in the catalog. However, they were custom made to order and cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars apiece. The fellow suggested I try finding a panel being junked by a railroad (which I never did). I found a way using a spring-loaded center off toggle switch, some brass channel, and a black knob to make something that worked the same way for about $2.00 a button.
That’s actually 221
Whoops!
CZcams at 3 am:
This is a very bumpy ride. I had to look away after a few minutes to avoid getting dizzy or nauseous.
do they still make 25hz transformers they look new
@@somesfs170 yes and most have been replaced recently.
Love that whoop sound
Are those the eows 612's going off bc it sounds like an electromechanical siren going off instead
Maybe
Freight manifest trains must not use this right-of-way, because the track geometry/alignment is absolutely flawless! If it wasn't for the title of the video, I would swear this footage was taken somewhere in either Europe or some Asian country like China or Japan.
Why didn’t the Silver Line show up in this video? Why was it the Orange Line instead?
Due to track work?
When was this filmed right on the weekend? Years ago?
Not good!! At least she didn’t want her picture taken! But it’s not her job to do that
Nice video..went over the bridge for 2nd time today
It's a fun ride!
That was different
Poop hit at 40:19, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where are the controls for the third rail collector shoes
Hey, I was wondering if we could use the photos of the hot box and dragging equipment detector equipment on the Position Light site for use on the defect detector site. I help out with the site and think your photos, especially the ones of old HBD equipment in Amtrak towers, could make really awesome additions. Proper credit would be given, of course
Sure thing and thanks for reaching out. I would encourage you to download and re-host the images as the current web hosting might not be stable long term. I won't niitpick how you credit me aside from linking to my blog at position-light.blogspot.com/ as that is where my value added content is. Feel free to link into various topics or pages ,like towers or specific towers.
BTW do you have a link to your defect detector site? I also have some photos of the frangible dragging equipment detectors on the old TN Pass Line and current Moffat Tunnel Route.
@@PositionLight Thanks so much. The site is defectdetector. With a Dot net after detector (CZcams's weird with links in comments). I think I've seen and downloaded everything detector related, but I'm going through everything once more. Thanks again
@@bali2516 I have quite a few detectors documented. Let me know if I have to submit them manually or if I can just send you a zip file or something..
@@PositionLight I’ve downloaded detector photos from the CN Bessemer sub, Cork Tower, Exeter NH, Paoli Tower, the RBMN, State Tower, Thorn Tower, and UP TN Pass sub. We’re mainly interested in the old equipment. If you have anything else that’s not on the Position Light, you could send it over through the Contact Us section on the website
Is this on the Harrisburg or Reading Line?
NS Harrisburg Line, formerly Conrail Harrisburg Line.
0:26 NJT: I gotta get outta here
They need to bring the toast back
Cool
I operated the juice train in the early 80's for Conrail on the NEC. It's maximum authorized speed was NTE 70 mph, the same as the mail train. We were given the railroad all the way overnight until passenger trains started running again, then it was: 'take the siding.'
Those were the days.
Why are the tracks at a different height?
I think either the town wanted more noise abatement for diesels or it was to mitigate the sharp grade north of town where the Bridge Line would climb up to the PRSL main line.
Two different rail systems.
I remember when an engineer went through a red light on the Newark Bay Bridge and went through an open lift and plunged 2 Locomotives and coaches into the bay killing 48. it was a Bay Head to Jersey City train. i was 7 years old and I remember the picture of the coach hanging off the open span .
big rail fan BUT I have no idea what the WEST AY is....can you give more details as I only know that Amtrak trains between the 2 Richmond Va. stations are often tied up for a long time and subsequently run late....thanks
West apex of the wye directly south of Acca Yard.
