Findlater Castle near Portsoy/Cullen
The first historical reference to the castle is from 1246. King Alexander III of Scotland repaired this castle in the 1260s in preparation for an invasion by King Haakon IV of Norway. The Norwegians took and held the castle for some time. The castle remains that are still there are from the 14th-century rebuilding, when the castle was redesigned based on the Roslyn Castle model.
James V of Scotland visited Findlater in November 1535 after a pilgrimage to Tain. The Laird of Findlater, an Ogilvy, was Master of Household to Mary of Guise. He lost his inheritance following sexual misconduct with his mother-in-law and making a plan to imprison his father in a cellar to deprive him of sleep and drive him insane to obtain his lands. After his father's death his mother married John Gordon, a son of the Earl of Huntly, who then took possession of the castle and lands, and promptly imprisoned her.
John Gordon, now of Findlater, fought with Lord Ogilvy in July 1562 and injured his arm. Gordon was imprisoned in Edinburgh until his victim healed, according to custom. In September 1562 Mary, Queen of Scots sent an army equipped with artillery from Dunbar Castle to besiege Findlater, and eject John Gordon of Findlater. When Mary was nearby on 20 September, she had sent her trumpeter messenger to deliver the castle to the captain of her guard, but he was refused. In October 1562 the Earl of Huntly sent Mary the keys of Findlater and Auchindoun, but she was suspicious of the low status of the messenger.
James Ogilvy, 1st Earl of Findlater, was given the earldom in 1638. He built the nearby Cullen House to take the place of the castle as the family seat and by the time he died in 1653 it was little used and in decline.

VHS footage of the RAF Church Fenton airshow 1992. Footage taken from beside the Tower and not the crowdline. Gives the shots a different perspective. Great shots of the Vulcan which I believe nearly stalled on the first bomb-bay doors open pass.at 21 mins, notice on second pass he did not bank as much..

Wish I was old enough to be at this game I was five and wasn't really into football at the time but I am now a jambo till I die hmfc the team for me CSF
Years later, the weight that some teams had on the referees is even more evident, but I didn't remember that an esteemed name like LINEMAYR had lent itself to this... the goal ⚽of the Scotsman GEMMILL was memorable to say the least !!! 🏆🌐
I was at it. Better atmosphere in those days.
When ? 😂
Hibs Hibs will rip you apart again… 😂😂😂
Are you cold in leith its about -19 degrees its quite hot here in gorgie😂😂😂😂
11:24 the man is a god
Sobering to think the number of players on the park here are no longer with us.
The football was awful
What happened in 2016

Proper stadiums and the football was so much better and atmosphere wise as well tynecastle was the best away ground 😅
How times change half these tackles made here would result in red cards
Miss commentary coming from a phone box
Scotland v Holland WC '78 1039am 13.7.23 even has the vague muffled commentary which sounds far mor authentic where international football commentary is concerned is to be heard... just discussing this game so i am gonna watch it now i have located a complete world cup 178 game... maybe scotland fond it's passion due to the dutch allowing them to play their own style of football which is also a key to holland being an excellent side - pitting wits all good and well best team wins being a far better example of how football should be played......... to the woman who can't comprehend why people would want to watch a repeat of an old football match: go away!!!
What a beautiful low angle winter sunshine at the start of the match in the Western part of Argentina at the foothill of the Andes. Fun fact: both teams and the referees are wearing socks of almost same color. I don't think it would work nowadays. Jorge Videla is watching at the stadium. It has been said he had not attended a football match in his life before this tournament. There has also been speculation about Netherlands losing this match on purpose to avoid Argentina and Brazil in the second round.
🤣🤣🤣hearts the gift that started giving around this time
Archie is lovely Pride of Scots
Kenny Dalglish is fun and cool
Hibs are fallen apart again
Scotland beat the runners up.
*Asa Hartford* was a great player, underrated, he was tireless, always got stuck in, great on the ball, drove everyone forward. Played in a similar style to Archie Gemmell. Man City legend, though he only won a League Cup with them and another League Cup with Everton. He played a staggering 973 matches from 1967-1991 for clubs and country (50 caps for Scotland).
Great show I was very sad to hear of Gerard Kelly’s passing a great actor a remarkable talent and a great icon of Scotland 🏴 RIP GREAT MAN I will always think of you with love and great affection ❤
Καλός αγώνας.ειχε πέντε γκολ.
I must admit for the first time ever I wanted Scotland, Archie gemell was a great player, better than sourness in my opinion
01:18 Rep goal
Celtic tryed to inspire a new fashion with no numbers on the shirts, only in the front and backpocket of the shorts. that didnt age well LoL
They started it in 1964 and it only ended in 1994 when the Scottish League insisted they wear numbers on their shirts.
Well that's 30 seconds I'll never get back
Yes they are 🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻

1:14:22 is what you’re looking for. You’re welcome
I'm a Scotland fan but don't rate this win. It's the classic example of a pyrrhic victory. Gemmill's goal is a classic, but everything is undone by Johnny Rep's screamer barely 3 minutes later. After that the Dutch basically stop playing for the final 20 minutes, suggesting they aren't caring about losing 3-2, but only about progression to the 2nd phase. It is essentially a Dutch victory. I'd rate the 1-0 win over Holland at Hampden in 2003 more highly. Yes it was a two legged tie and we were routed in the return game in Amsterdam, but we were gigantic underdogs ranked 80-something in the world, playing one of the world's best teams at the time. We had no right to win and we did. An individually famous result, and unlike the 78 game, where the Dutch were seemingly happy to lose 3-2, the team of 2003 battered our goal until the final minute but to no avail
Such a shame - Scotland showed what might have been had they not fluffed to two opening games by beating really the best team in the competition. Drawing the 2nd game was really inexcusable.
I cried throughout the entire match
Remember this well the jocks had a super side all positions strangely didnt get going then out played the eventual runners up and Gemmils goal well. Mimd you Reps thunderbolt was a bit special.
The Scots had some fine players from '74 to '82. It's just bizarre how they couldn't get out of the group stages. '74 they were very unlucky. '78, they underestimated Peru (and played woefully against Iran) and in '82 Alan Hansen ran into Willie Miller.
I always wondered why the Scots could never go far in the WC or the Euros. They had talented teams, many of them key players at home and at the First Division in England.
Too many duds in the squad from the Scottish League. Example: Look at the nightmare tournament that Stuart Kennedy had.
I feel so drunk hic, that my eyes can't focus hic.. can we not HD it?
Fantastic
Mendoza Capital Parque Gral San Martín.
Was this the year Scotland made a Lp which I got for the world cup
The Peter Huistra interview cracks me up. From the ‘Dutchman in is own right’ to ‘yes Chick you are’. Absolute class.
1:14:13 Your Welcome.
It was almost 'dreamland' but we fell a wee bit short! Great days for the Scottish national side though! Some team we had then!
It was always the last game of do or die with my Scotland. Another glorious Bonnie Prince Charlie failure again. In 1974 WC they didn't lose one match in the Group stage & still went home!
