    Hoping someone sees this, 1st. Is custom on the pad the same as a layer on the desk? 2nd. When I set a custom layout on my iPad, no one else can see it. Is this right? Thanks.

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před 4 dny

      Hi, iPad layers exist only on the iPad itself. You can make an iPad custom layer match a desk layer by using Copy Desk Layer and choosing which to copy from. Changing the desk doesn't then automatically change on the iPad. It doesn't work the other way around, so whatever layers you configure on an iPad stay on that device only. Hope that helps.

    For use of Tracks Live by Waves, is the Waves I/O interface for SQ required? Or can I pass my inputs into the PC by an audio driver like SQ Driver, ASIO4ALL, or Dante Virtual Soundcard?

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před 2 měsíci

      Hi, no interface is needed. As I show in the video, it's a simple USB connection from the desk to the computer and ASIO drivers on the PC. For DVS you would need a Dante card for the SQ, but that isn't necessary for this.

  • @fragglejunk
    @fragglejunk Před 3 měsíci

    Everyone's worst nightmare when dealing with digital boards is hitting a button and the settings changing and being unsure why that happened, and how to "get back". In the video, when you hit the L-R button, you mentioned that gives you your FOH mix. ...but the levels changed noticeably when you did so. Which outputs are we hearing in the video, and which setting did you have it on previously (before hitting the LR button)?

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, changing mix didn't affect the levels at all, it only changes what the faders control. I don't recall exactly what I used for that video but most likely I changed the volume while editing to ensure you can hear me speaking clearly. (I usually recorded separately and mix during edit).

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, unfortunately not, there is not a way to do that. Some people leave gaps between scenes to allow for others to be 'inserted' later for this reason. You'll just have to copy/paste to shift them around.

    Hello, I'm new to both digital mixing and our new Allen and Heath SQ6 desk. I was able to connect two active monitors' in parallel to AUX 10. I was able to control my volume through the SQ desk; however, this is not something that i do often. So i forgot how i configured these monitors through the SQ desk to include controlling the volume. Can you help me figure out how i may have configured the monitors to work on AUX 10?

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před 5 měsíci

      Hi, when you say connected to aux 10, I assume you mean connected to local output socket 10 on the desk? If you aren't sure where that is controlled from, go to the IO Patching area, then select Outputs and Mix Out. On there you should see which mix is patched to socket 10. It will be one of the Aux or Group mixes most likely. It's hard to explain in just these comments. If you need more guidance drop me an email - my address is in the channel info.

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam

      This is just due to how gain works on the desk. You will find the output to USB is always lower unless you send through a dedicated mix to boost it. If you're playing back on the desk it will be the correct level, anywhere else will need adjusting. There's an article which explains it on the A&H site: support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4403616287889-General-Qu-SQ-Levels-and-Metering-in-Qu-and-SQ

    Do the groups ultimately come out through your final mix or do they come out through an output to a seperate location similar to a matrix. ? Is it closer to a DCA or matrix ?

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před 8 měsíci

      Hi, the groups I mention in this video are sent to separate outputs - vestry and loop are routed to physical outputs. You can also just use them for internal processing, which is what I've done in my livestream setup (shown in another video if you're interested). It's all down to how you route them, which is completely flexible in the desk and one of the things I really like about it. I guess in that respect they are closer to a matrix, except you can't route a matrix to another mix.

      Hey, if I get some time I'll look into that. It's basically routing and send levels, some of which I talk about in the session on routing. You need to make sure the FX return is routed to the Aux mix, then set the fader level.

    So when you switch back to live mode, do all the adjustments you made to eq stay? When you switch your inputs back to local instead of usb?

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před rokem

      Yes, absolutely, you are only changing the I/O patching and all the channel processing (after the pre-amp stage) stays exactly the same.

    Sir wht is the advantage n disadvantages of making subgroups

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před rokem

      It depends what you want to do. Groups allow you to apply extra processing to several channels together, which is the main reason I make use of them, for example to add some EQ or compression to all your vocals. It does make the routing more complicated though, so you do need to keep in mind who is going to be using them. I use groups a lot for our live streaming setup as it gives me the ability to do multiple levels of compression separately to the FOH.

    Hi, thank you for your vidéo, Very clear! how do you send the FX to an auxiliary ? Thanks

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před rokem

      Hi, glad you found it helpful. To send FX to Aux, you just need to make sure it is routed to the one you want in the Routing section, then adjust the FX return level in that Aux mix.

    what did you end up using for your room mics?

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před rokem

      I ended up with a pair of Rode NT5s, they are a pretty decent all round condenser mic that I'm happy with.

    WOW! WOW! WOW! I don't even know where to start with regards to your content. Outstanding. We have a sq6 and going to start livestreaming our service with a separate mix. Have been using a bus mix. Sounds thin. Then when I saw you are using Reaper (tried logic pro -- to much processing delay) ... no words. Can't wait to watch all of your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. WELL DONE!

      Hope you find it all useful! I don't use Reaper to mix for the live stream though, just for recording, we don't have enough people to operate that kind of setup. I have put in multiple groups to process our love stream mix - there's a video where I explain the way it works.

      @@stjamesstyvechalepateam i have the same problem with regards to the team size and have just been reviewing how you are doing livestream. I have learned a great deal and only just scratching the surface with regards to the wealth of material you have put on youtube. We spent 5 years running youth camps in the UK. I wish we were still doing that. I would pay you for some in person tutoring.

      I hardly think I'm qualified 😁 Most of these I recorded while learning the desk myself, I found it a good way to learn is to teach others. The videos were originally for the volunteers at my church but they are proving useful to others too.

    Hey sir, I have Aux 1 and Aux 4 as my right and left floor wedges. I’m wanting to use those as fillers for my main mix because we don’t use floor monitors. We are all in ears. So how would I be able to patch my wedges so they would be linked up with my mains? Or is that not possible

    • @stjamesstyvechalepateam
      @stjamesstyvechalepateam Před rokem

      Yes, that's possible. Depending on where your wedges are, you can just use the I/O page to patch the Main LR through to the physical sockets they are connected to. If you planning to use them as Left and Right then patch one to Main L and the other to Main R - go to I/O->Outputs->Mix Out and find MainLR down the left, select the tab across the top (Local, SLink etc.) to the correct one depending where your wedges are plugged in, then patch the socket. I don't cover this in any of my videos, although I do use the I/O page in the multi-track recording sessions 24 & 25. You'll probably also want to EQ these better if they are being used in this way, I know that our floor wedges sound very different due to the EQ needing to avoid feedback!
