Hiking Mishap
Registrace 7. 04. 2009
Hi! My trail name is Mishap. I really like hiking long distances and uploading dumb videos about my trips.
CDT 2022 Days 113-115
I leave Island Park with Cash, Grasshopper, and Tiger Duck and pick up a nasty head cold over the next few days. I'm struggling along without cold medicine and doing my best.

CDT 2022 Day 112
zhlédnutí 84Před 2 hodinami
Grasshopper, Cash, Tiger Duck, and I take the blue route into Island Park because of the water situation. We ate at Cafe Sabor and steal camped across the street in a thunderstorm. I had a lot of leg pain and had trouble limping into town. My hiker hobble was intense.
CDT 2022 Day 111
zhlédnutí 204Před 7 hodinami
Cash, Tiger Duck, and I meet up with Grasshopper and explore the geothermal features of Yellowstone before headed off down the trail.
CDT 2022 Day 110
zhlédnutí 160Před 9 hodinami
My adventure continues with Tiger Duck and Cash. We grab the buffet in Grant Village and hike on getting to see lots of geothermal activity. We make it to Old Faithful lodge for their dinner buffet and end up splitting a room after exploring the old historic building and getting a tour.
CDT 2022 Days 108 & 109
zhlédnutí 168Před 14 hodinami
I catch up with the groups of hikers I was suppose to be hiking with and we make our way into Yellowstone National Park. I didn't spend much time hiking with them however. I had an eagle try to attack me while I was walking, it had been attacking every solo hiker as they go by.
CDT 2022 Day 107
zhlédnutí 95Před 16 hodinami
Another day hiking alone in grizzly country. I haven't caught up to the group yet but I see a lot of tracks and scat.
CDT 2022 Day 106
zhlédnutí 123Před 16 hodinami
I hike out from Dubois after mailing some items off at the post office. My goal is to catch a group of thru hikers that I met in town so we can all hike together in grizzly country.
CDT 2022 Days 104 & 105
zhlédnutí 203Před 21 hodinou
I hike the 26 miles into Dubois, WY. I'm a bit frazzled after hearing a bear roar in the dense trees as a friend of mine was mauled by a grizzly this in area a few years ago. Later on I hear that problem bears from Yellowstone get rehomed here. After a long wait for a hitch a car turned back around to pick me up because they saw a grizzly and cub not far from where I was trying to hitch. I spen...
CDT 2022 Days 102 & 103

I hike on north through the breathtaking winds alone another two days.
CDT 2022 Days 100 & 101
zhlédnutí 218Před dnem
A group of us clustered together to camp the night before in the Cirque of the Towers including Critter, Ducky, Lemon Hope, Detour, and one other then hiked off in the morning back towards the red line. Detour and Lemon Hope branched off to take the Wind River High Route. It was recommended to have ice axe and micro spikes which I had already sent home so it was the red line for me. Critter and...
CDT 2022 Day 99
zhlédnutí 178Před dnem
Blow downs galore. We encounter the worst blow downs of our lives, having to climb rather than walk. Eventually we split fro the red line and go cross country on the bath of least resistance to hike the Cirque of the Towers alternate where there are no blow downs. It really took our breaths away with how beautiful everything was. The bugs later came back with a vengeance.
CDT 2022 Days 97 & 98
zhlédnutí 161Před dnem
I hike into Lander, WY and stay with my friend Zinder. The next day I hike out with Critter and Ducky into the Wind River Range which marks the start of grizzly country.
CDT 2022 Day 96
zhlédnutí 119Před 14 dny
I make a new personal record for myself by hiking 33.5 miles. I also got to see a huge amount of wildlife, unfortunately missed by my camera. This is my last full day out on the Great Basin.
CDT 2022 Day 95
zhlédnutí 731Před 14 dny
I continue north through the Great Basin and encounter a large variety of wildlife. I hiked alone and did 32.8 miles today, a new personal record.
CDT 2022 Day 94

I parted ways with Grit and Kingo to hike out into the great basin while it was still cool in the morning. I experienced the worst mosquitoes of my life, truly horror film levels of them, eventually pushing me to a break down. Hiking inside my tent saved my butt. It ended up being brutally hot with almost nowhere to find shade most of the day. I hiked 31 miles and didn't see anyone out there ot...
I would have expected a giant potato at the Idaho state line. Disappointing.
Hiking the Yellowstone portion of the CDT is something I would like to do. Nice episode Mishap.
Nice
✅
I know your vids are from last year but they're short and sweet, been following since PCT
Love your new shirt!
Such a beautiful section! Thanks for sharing!
You have quite the mishaps….a LEECH n your filter!😂
Cool pronghorn and hearing him make an alert sound❤
Dang, that highway crossing is a huge bear location. We got picked up only because the couple driving the truck saw a grizzly on the side of the road and a surveyor was attacked the day before. Glad you didn't have to spend long there.
You are a brave one! My respect
So beautiful those Winds!
This has been a great series. Grizzlies will come in Teton Wilderness (Thorofare) just south of Yellowstone border. Hike in group. Wyo native here.
Wow
Wow, this video captures the essence of hiking so beautifully! The cinematography is stunning, and the scenery is breathtaking!
Nice job on the Winds
It's always nice when a hiker voices their appreciation for trail maintainers. Some zip easily thru a section of massive blowdowns without realizing that it took a day or more for a crew to cut and move all limbs and trunks. Unfortunately, there aren't enough volunteers/crews to clear out every blowdown. Also, seeing wildfire smoke in the distance is one thing, but waking up and smelling smoke is disconcerting because that means the smoke is being blown your direction, which could mean the fire is being blown your direction as well. I'm glad it wasn't a factor for you on this day. This is a beautiful section of the trail... no roads, cars, buildings, etc. I'm enjoying your hike... thanks for sharing.
I always thank every trail crew I encounter!
@@HikingMishap Same, I'm sure they appreciated your thanks. 🙂
Nice hat.
Are you hiking a trail this year?
I had plans to hike the PNT but I dislocated my shoulder, I'm taking a WFR class this summer instead. I'll hike more in the future when I'm healed!
@@HikingMishap good luck with your shoulder. I just got an mri on mine and I have a tear. Not sure yet if I need surgery…Enjoying the vids, I look forward to each new release.
@@Only_a_man best of luck with recovery!
I got the feeling this was an enjoyable day. My max was 28 miles in this stretch, 32 is amazing and I don’t like the spirit behind the 50+ mile thing, because it assumes it is a boring place but it’s not. I camped beside 70 lb hammer in the Never Summer. That guy is fast.
It's a pretty cool place but I get it, it's flat and totally the perfect spot to test out how far you can go.
Amazing amazing videos sharing dear friend ❤️ Really enjoyed watching Super big big like thumbs up 👍👍👍👍 See you again take care, keep intouch ❤️😊
I finally have been in that area by car, absolutely sure I will never hike the Wyoming CDT. Nice tracks Mishap.
Honestly it was pretty cool and worth it. I saw the most wild life there out of anywhere on trail.
Why is this woman being encouraged to risk her life doing this? Mosquitoes- which she was not prepared for- ( "I didn't think it would be like this").....are the very least of her (I didn't think about that) challenges. She doesn't have nearly enough subscribers to make this worthwhile and even then, it wouldn't be. Prisons are being cleared out in other nations to send their worst HERE to the US. Women are being killed daily as we've had 4-5 million unvetted cartel members, etc. cross our southern border alone- she is in that region. She is alone and possibly not able to gauge rational behavior. Fresh, young bodies go for $100,000. Truly. Stop encouraging her. Go back to town lady- get to where people actually know you and care about you.
Bless your heart! Mosquitoes are evil.
Specifically those ones
Just a future tip with cattle. Just stay calm and walk through them. They will move away. The only real time you have a issue is if you are tagging and doctoring a baby calf. I don't see hikers doing any doctoring. When they move in to see what you are, Most of the time they relate people to getting fed. I use to chase cows for ranchers out there. Wyoming is a beautiful state.
Yup, just give the bulls a wide berth.
I had a bad experience in Ireland with angry steer chasing me and I got really banged up trying to escape.
@@HikingMishap Ok now it makes sense. That would do it. But think of it like Bear attacks. It is very uncommon for a attack. Glad you made it through that. I had my sternum separated by a momma cow in Idaho during calving season. It will make you think about it for sure.
I wish I could of seen you hiking in your tent! Enjoy watching your thru hike and can't wait to see you get to Canada.
Really glad that the mosquitoe thing didn't last! You'd go crazy if you had to do the whole basin like that... :p I think the ground gets higher in the next days and hopefully cuts down on flies/mosquitoes. Going the other direction I definitely enjoyed the western side of the basin more than the east.
I miss my home sweet home-Wyoming, but not between Rawlins to Lander.
Wyoming already?! You’re moving!
Great porcupine!!!
Amazing, nice job hiking
Give yourself credit tough girl.
Nice sunset summit
7000 That is definitely a lot of vertical gain. Its great to get some downhill after that lol. I always like to do my uphill first Wow that was heavy hail to leave piles like that. Nice of the cows to speak to you guys lol. They view in the end was awesome
7,000 wasn't the worst we had done either
@@HikingMishap You're pretty avid hikers great activity , I'm trying to get back at it before I gets too old and out of shape LOL
New Subscriber here , your video just popped up in my recommended videos and I was hitting subscribe when the grouse showed up and the moose had me turn on notifications. I hate the mosquitos too so I can totally see taking cover. What an awesome view from the top. Looking forward to checking your older videos and and following your journey in new videos
The mosquitoes got worse later on in the trail, wait till Wyoming!
Nice Spirited Away reference... :)
Glad you got off that ridge safely! That was a spectacular sunset!
Dang you need an ice axe, that's some serious hiking/climbing.
I used mine very heavily, I have no clue how he got by without one.
wow good on you guys for heading back up when the storm was over, that isn't easy to do. And what a reward. :) I'm wondering if you went the high route or dropped down after Flora? I'll find out, I guess! :)
I just red lined it. It was terrifying when it became dark dark and all snow
Nice video! I actually try to hike that area every week or 2 and had no idea they moved the CDT. Hope everyone healed quick. That rock can get nasty.
I hope your friend Sputnik I think recovers and is ok to carry on. It can snow on any day here. You are doing great.
I did okay, though I never caught up to Mishap and Leftovers and our other friends. I took a week off to visit family, then hiked another week and quit around Steamboat Springs. Came back the next year (2023) and finished the trail. Giardia and bruised ribs on top of the realization that I was only half way did me in, lol...
@@seekingishwara737 Shoot I hear you. I live here about 70 miles from the San Juans. I fish and camp in Taylor park, Those peaks are no joke. But you gave it hell and came back to finish it out. Awesome job.
@@DJMoore-001 many thanks! There is a vast and living silence in that Weminuche wilderness that I'll never forget. A smart place to live 👍
@@seekingishwara737 You're welcome. And Thank You.
Perhaps the cliff dwelling area is why your videos showed up in my feed, because I subscribe to SUVRVing and he had a video recently where he visited that place.
Altra shoes. Perhaps I will try some day. Anyway, I'm catching up with your CDT videos, very interesting.
I need wide toe box shoes like yours. I will have to pay attention if I can see the brand.
I recommend topos
Yeah, I was afraid of the hospital because I worried about American insurance and stuff like that. :D
I was afraid you'd need to be helicopter rescued with how has bad that fall looked D:
@@HikingMishap Yeah! Really a disturbance in the force so early in the morning with the sunrise and the goat and the quiet! :D
That aqua blue color is so great, I never get tired of it.
That dinner was such a great time !
Now that I have a dog I can better see what a friendly dog Blue is.
That’s one of the 10 dishes of the VLBA, Very Long Baseline Array, operated by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. It’s the brother/sister/2nd cousin once removed of the Very Large Array (VLA) which is just east of Pie Town on the highway to Socorro.
Awesome Job.
