    Beautiful spot for an overnighter! Bivy seems to be doing you well. The tree with the berries you were wondering about was a Rowan or Mountain Ash (Sorbus aucuparia).

    • @unclepeteswildadventures
      @unclepeteswildadventures Před 18 dny

      The mug that comes with the kit is 10 cm diameter. The measurement from the cup handle to its base is 2.5 cm. The handle rests on the shield cut out. Also I think sbp do make custom shields to fit your cup. Hope this helps.

    • @unclepeteswildadventures
      @unclepeteswildadventures Před 22 dny

      That would depend on your cup’s measurements. Diameter and distance from the base of the handle to the base of the cup. My stove is packed in my backpack at the modem as I’m camping tonight. Give me the measurements of your cup and I’ll try and let you know in 48 hours. Also I think the maker do custom build the shield. While watching several times I couldn't figure out how you balanced the pot on two supports. 💡The light went on, it's resting the handle on the wind screen.💡I have lost count on how many alcohol stoves/burners I have made over the years and the puck stove has always outperform all others. My favourite has been the Monster Drink cap stove. Alas they don't make them anymore.

    always interesting to see other campers take on kit, Alpkit hunka i can only use in hot weather due to condensation and when i tried the Elan i was flooded out as you saw on my video, it must all depend how much moisture you put out, obviously i sleep really warm so give off loads , hence why the goretex works for me, i wish i could get on with the Elan as its so much lighter, anyway we all need to use what works for us. cheers

    • @unclepeteswildadventures

    • @unclepeteswildadventures
      @unclepeteswildadventures Před měsícem

      It’s certainly cosy. I think bivis are best used with a tarp. I’ve got a DD super light 2.8m x 1.5m. The bivi is full waterproof but a tarp gives you another skin and a sheltered cooking area. You can get a bivi pitched almost anywhere and more stealthy. I think these windy conditions are the future. An Elan will beat a Hilleberg for windy conditions. Thanks for commenting.

    • @unclepeteswildadventures
      @unclepeteswildadventures Před 2 měsíci

      Yes I’ve done it with care. I just put the stove near the door at the front. In any case you can take a small tarp easily set up an extra cooking area. It’s still my go to summer tent. Light and v easy to pitch. See my other vids with that tent. I use the vertex pole for the tent and I’ve always got two trekking poles if I want to use a tarp. Thanks for commenting. Atb

    Bought one recently and tested it over the weekend. I wasn’t overly optimistic but it was excellent. Cosy but not claustrophobic at all. Minimal condensation at the feet but every bivvy gets this, whatever the material. Completely dry. The material is breathable.

    • @unclepeteswildadventures
      @unclepeteswildadventures Před 2 měsíci

      I found that it was easy to get an airflow around the head. I loved that you could lie in the bag and look straight out into a star/moonlit sky. (See my Dun fell and Gt Asby videos). I like to use a tarp with it but it’s not essential. Thanks for commenting.

      Ethanol is hard to light when very cold. A quick burst from this, like a heat lance, preheats the fuel. Hard to do the same with a normal lighter

I found out when I got home, that I had left the gills (gussets on both sides of the bag) open so it would have been better if they were closed. Lovely quality bag and 400 gms lighter than my winter down bag. I like the mesh behind and I front of your head on the Elan,gives good airflow where your warm breath is exhaling. Great to see you in the bivy, down gear is essential for the evening, if using a tarp, and you can offset the weight by wearing it in the night with a lighter sleeping bag, that seem to work for me, (although I really prefer the heavy sleeping bag and less night clothes but it’s all about what you want to carry,) And pitch where you fancy is a bonus Cheers
