Doyenne of Death Podcast with Greg Bennick Part Three
agoodgoodbye.com/podcasts/death-and-humor-on-the-doyenne-of-death-podcast-part-three/
@GailRubin hosts The Doyenne of Death Podcast, with discussions of mortality issues. In this episode, speaker, author and film maker Greg Bennick talks with Gail Rubin about Ernest Becker, author of the Pulitzer Prize winning book, The Denial of Death. Today's episode looks at humor and death. Gail and Greg discuss an academic paper written by Dr. Neil Elgee, who wrote: "We use humor to free ourselves from slavery to death."
Greg Bennick has been a thought provoker, public presenter, comedic juggler and punk rock vocalist (yes you read that correctly), a TEDx Speaker, a humanitarian and philanthropist, and an influencer devoted to transforming the world by inspiring personal and social change.
He is writing the first ever biography of philosopher, cultural anthropologist, and Pulitzer Prize winner Ernest Becker, who dedicated his life to understanding the complexities of self esteem and how it relates to our psychological well-being. Greg has been studying Becker’s work for twenty-five years and is a recognized expert on his writing. The insights Greg has drawn from Becker’s work offer hope for our increasingly turbulent world.

So glad that he was able to brush his teeth before his journey ... but then the bubblegum must not have tasted quite as good. Life's (and Death's) little trade-offs. 🎲
When will this be in the UK , its a good idea and a better choice.
Alkaline hydrolysis, also known as water cremation, is currently legal in the UK and has been available since 2023.
Always likes the cheesy blue velvet covering the casket lowering apparatus. Its a touch of your subconscious and makes it look more professional.
Oh, a Chevy Tra-Hearse!
My husband was born and raised in Antlers, which is about 30 miles north of Hugo. He knew of this cemetery and he brought me here in the late 1990s when we had gone up to visit his mom. It's an amazing place. Unique plaques and statues, and a real history of a bye gone era. There is also one up in Forest Park Illinois, Woodlawn Cemetery, where the Showman's Rest contains the graves of performers who were on a circus train that carried the Hagenbeck-Wallace circus in 1918. A troop train plowed into the stationary circus train, killing 86 of the 400 performers on the train. Most were unidentifiable due to the fire that started from the crash. If you are interested in that video, it's on Faces of the Forgotten CZcams channel under the title 1918 CIRCUS TRAIN-WRECK THAT KILLED 86 Performers & Roustabouts - Showmans Rest at Woodlawn Cemetery.
How interesting! Thank you for letting everyone know about it.
PS I agree about your mission, that we should prepare for the inevitable, it is the most loving thing the deceased can do for their family / the family can do for the deceased
Dear Gail, A Mass card is a card given to the family of the deceased to let them know that a Catholic (or other mourner) has arranged for / Requested a Catholic priest to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the repose of the soul of the deceased. This life is not all there is. Hope that helps. PS What the Orthodox father described are the cards made up by the funeral parlor with sacred images and prayers to God for the deceased to be given to mourners to remind them to pray for the dead.
Thank you so much for your additions to this information!
Should have been replaced long ago but good job!❤
What do prices start at? Do you have to provide the casket?
If you do an online search for Trey, I'm sure you can track him down and he'll answer your questions.
When it comes down to it, it's all for the living, the dead have gone their way.
If they weren't old I doubt anyone would've been kind the way they were
Thanks for sharing Gail ... I've bookmarked this for our next road trip!
It's well worth the effort to make a visit.
How cool is this 😎 Thanks for your important healing work Gail Rubin 💜
Thank you Martie!
A very good presentation....a lot of my questions were answered. Thank you
George's voice has really gotten frail over the past year or so, if anyone noticed. Something is going on. Hope he's doing well.

IS THAT A BOEING DOOR?
Pretty cool hearse actually
How can you afford that kind of machine? Is the state subsidy apply? If it does that means tax payers are paying for some of the cost. If not, what is the cost of one of this machines? Obviously there are many other expenses associated with this type of equipment. What off sets the cost? How many Brodie to make it profitable? Not free!
Bio-Response Solutions has a website with more information about the alkaline hydrolysis process that might help answer your questions: aquamationinfo.com/

I’m getting turned into a diamond or diamonds for my kids but this would be a good second option
2:35 i own one of these :)
I remember standing in the foyer of the church as an eleven year old boy for my 19 year old brother's casket to be placed on the church truck. A very vivid memory as he died in an automobile accident and changed the course of life forever. I was fascinated by the sturdiness but smooth roll of the truck once the casket proceeded to roll down the aisle to the altar. Many friends and family in attendance. I felt two hands on my shoulders as the casket rolled by me. I looked up for my Dad but it was my Uncle Ted. Dad was somewhere, would be seen on weekends for a dozen years or so. The grief of losing his first born was too much to overcome and died at 59. Seems like yesterday.... I'm going on 63.
It's all about the stories!
How could someone attending NFDA not know what casket stops were??
Those attending NFDA would know, but others outside the industry watching this video might not know.
Very interesting, thank you for educating us!
Nicely done.
The music sounds heavenly in the carousel 🎠
What is the price of Diamond? Do you have a website .

When I was a little boy my father and I were walking down the street past that cemetery and I saw a man clear as day normal looking expect he was missing his arms walking diagonal across the graves very fast and disrespectfully. He I'd never seen anyone like that and I yelled "dad look that man has no arms" and pointed at the man. My dad responded with anger "what the f@ck are you talking about" almost as if he couldn't see him. I was. Only 4
I sure do like this man...I work at a formal home..my son has one georgie...
👏👏👏👏👏🥰

Gail, my mom passed away on Thursday, October 19th, 2023.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. My condolences.
I am sorry to hear that. It's a lonely feeling, but you will be ok
How do funerals work?. I mean, Why some have processions and graveside services?, while others have it at a Church?... Others are buried without people present, or probably one member just watching from a distance?... Just seeking info.
There are a wide range of options for funerals and memorial services, based on the deceased and the family's preferences, religion (or lack thereof), disposition method, etc. You might want to check out my book, A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don't Plan to Die, which covers many of your questions.
Are you able to locate lost items? I do have MANY family members that have passed that I'm also wanting to contact as well. I've seen 2 psychics before & I really was disappointed with the questions that were very general like is this a friend, relative, peer, sibbling, or lover. Kinda covers everything & then it was played off what I answered so I'm skeptical. I was also asked if I had a daughter which I don't and that threw me off too. I tried hard not to give too much away but they pushed with questions like that.

@@GailRubin thank you
In the city they wait till everyone leaves but they don't do it in the country I wonder that myself
Wow, great information. Thank you, Gail!
Glad it was helpful! You can learn more in Part Two of this video.
i dont know why we dont use them lifts in the UK much easier
Back in the early 90's I didn't have a helper, had to do it all by myself. It was hard doing the children's burials
Did two myself back to back a month ago
That means you have a heart. It would be very difficult for me to do that as well.
Seems like those being smaller, they would be easier.
Why do they wait for everyone to leave then lower the casket.
It doesn't always happen like that. When the casket containing my mom's remains(which also contained my dad's ashes), we stayed until the casket was lowered and it looked exactly like this.
If Something goes wrong:)
Thats the fun part.
Sometimes it can be a not-so-pretty process like if the hole was dug in a bad spot. Maybe that spot is wet, lots of rock, caving in etc. maybe the casket goes in cockeyed and one of the guys goes “hey jerk if toward the left a little” and you hear a loud thud. Just not the prettiest look when paying for a premium funeral. Deaths aren’t cheap, and most funeral homes cemeteries etc often try to sell a luxury appeal. The lowering wouldn’t necessarily fit that appeal. Death is supposed to be a gentle and delicate time, and lowering the body could be not pleasant especially with how rough it’s handled, which is inevitable. It also gives us more privacy when doing our job which helps with concentration. We’re not heartless, I promise that. Imagine if you had an extremely upset and grieving family watching you while you worked. That kind of pressure could potentially lead to someone screwing up. It all really just comes down to a safety thing
Equipment most time are old the maintenance is not up to date so to prevent the casket from falling and strap’s giving away the just wait for everyone to leave
With all of the horror stories about what happens to Loved Ones after years of The Casket being underground, and the Burial Vault isn't garenteed to Protect the Remains, I'm Getting Cremated!!
That's also why I'm afraid of being buried. Also I would prefer if my family wanted to visit me they don't have to go in public do it.
I’m gonna get cremated and probably have my urn buried at a cemetery
Very enlightening and inspirational ❤
