After inspection of this historic property, the chimney flashings and valleys seemed to be past their service life. They had been reworked and patched with roof cement which expands when hot and shrinks when cold. My ca.1900 late Victorian house has a Peach Bottom slate roof. It is described as black, but on the roof it looks like a shiny blue-grey. I am very pleased as it is beautiful.
Yes, Peach Bottom slate that is 120 years old won't look black anymore. It's a fabulous slate.

I'm confused. Why didn't you just go next door to Argentina and get some slate, since they have several of the largest slate quarries on the world? Not the right color?
Yes, there is lots of slate in Argentina, but the architect and design team chose Vermont slate.

Wicked bit a slating there, however and i see this alot in the states, no battons on the roof??? Here in uk we always batton and sometimes counter batton.
Battens aren't used here in the US on most slate roofs.
It's been 7 yrs it shouldbe leaking bad now lol

How is fiber cement for hail resistance.
Not good. Slate is actually very good, but they used a lower grade slate on parts of this roof in the video. The Peach Bottom was very good, but the poor quality Pennsylvania slate were completely destroyed.

Nice job making the roof look good, but the the roof is leaking - You had one job
No, our job was not the roof installation, we were just trainers. We trained the locals, and we were told that they had it down, and finished the job without getting in final inspections from us. We were not present for the last few months of roofing. This is on whoever decided that they didn't need us for the last few months.
Finally found out what they did. They cut a hole open and installed a new skylight that wasn't on the plans, and they used CAULK to seal it!! Not sure why they went so far and didn't get a final inspection from us!!
