Adoptive parents go into things with such a selfish mindset. “I want a child, so I want that child to be unwanted by their parents” not child centred at all, not thinking about how we as adoptees need to settle this as we develop. - fellow adoptee

I was adopted too when I was 3-4 months old, I didn’t know I was adopted until my parents told me a few months after my 16th birthday.. I mean I look like them a little bit since we are from the same country but tbh I wouldn’t ever trade anyone else for my parents now ❤ it’s truly beautiful that they chose me 🥺 my name is Renée it means reborn in French :) my mum told me that they named me Renée because I was reborn as their child 🥺✨ I think adoption is beautiful, and I’d adopt too when I’m older 🙃✨✨

I'm adopted from China too and I can relate to some parts of the video (some things and perspectives may be different, either personal or from family members). My adoptive parents are spanish and I don't know my biological ones either. I got lucky to meet more girls like me and be able to have them in my life. Really helped me in moments of defeat against people who judged me just because I had asian facial features. I have heard (on tv/news) of children (more girls than boys, and not necessarily chinese adoptees) that have suffered bullying and it got them to commit suicide, which is so sad and upsetting. I have been dealing with bullying for many years, have friends who have deal with it too and friends who didn't have to deal with it. No matter if you have suffered it or not, firstly, we are human and we have feelings. In my case I never felt bad or humiliated in the sense of being adopted but it frustrated me to hear people who doesn't know anything about you to treat you bad cause of where you were born. With time I stopped caring about what people said, even if it sometimes still trigers some feelings of anger against those who speak badly. And I got lucky to go back to China and visit some places, even if I would need many more travels to see all of it. You do you and hopefully you accept yourself as you are because you are a person first and foremost. Also want to learn chinese!

I'm also a Chinese adoptee but from the first wave of China's international adoption program in 1991. Unlike you, I was less than 5 months old when I was adopted, so I couldn't speak unlike my younger adopted siblings. Also, your mother mentions that you couldn't speak in the video, orher than calling others' names, but that actually wasn't the case. I only know basic Mandarin Chinese, but in the video where we can see you cry, you say "(我)不要" (wo bu yao) which means "I don't want/wanna". 😆 But hey, that's a normal reaction from a baby in the arms of a stranger and who doesn't want to leave the only people they've known so far in their life. 😅

Emily, you really don't have to feel grateful. It's a huge burden that adoptees have to bear. You went through an extremely traumatic loss at an early age. You don't have to add on 'but I feel grateful' when you're talking about the sad parts. International adoption is legalised child trafficking. Your adoptive parents would have paid a lot of money to these (mainly Western) adoption agencies. It's completely unethical. They are trading in children. It's creepy.

I found your video after having watched "Return to Seoul". The film made me wonder if there are similar stories from Chinese adoptees since many adoptees would be young adults by now and likely much more capable and articulate about expressing their perspectives and feelings about their adoption and origins. I really liked the last 8 or 9 minutes of your video where you talked about how Asian culture was foreign to you and how representativeness in popular media helped you connect more with Asian culture. That was really well-expressed. I was wondering if you have an update on whether you've been able to connect more with Asian/Chinese culture. Did you ever travel to China or have plans to? Have you searched for your birth parents? Are you still trying to learn the language (which I think is nearly impossible unless you're immersed in it)? Please do not feel any need to respond as I know these are really personal questions. Thanks for sharing your story!

How do you feel about China now ?

I had to pause the video about halfway through and SOB. Adoption is beautiful. Every person deserves a loving family. Yes, your parents are special. But so are you. Their lives are more rich because of you and your sister. Thank you THANK YOU for sharing. I know it wasn’t easy but it was extremely helpful in educating people about adoption. And we SO need to hear the adoptee’s perspective. I love your personality and your openness. One day, I hope to adopt and now I can direct my own children to your CZcams channel as someone they can learn from and relate. God bless you!

I would have wanted to be adopted by your parents!!! The life of biological children is not always perfect. maybe physically you are different from your parents but in biological families sometimes a child is born with very different traits.. I believe that a child is from where he grew up... and not so much from where he was born. The physical has nothing to do with it. I have a friend who has slanted eyes. She is a biological daughter but her parents do not have slanted eyes, nor does her brother.. Only my friend was born that way.. but she is flattered and puts on Korean makeup and dances Korean Thanks to her slanted eyes that give her that Asian appearance, everyone admires her and she feels very, very blessed.
