tchiks guitars
Belgium
Registrace 4. 12. 2014
Hi there, welcome to my channel.
I'm a 34 year old self taught amateur woodworker from Brussels, Belgium.
I started woodworking in June 2017, and made my first guitar in September 2019.
My day job has nothing to do with woodworking, or making guitars, or anything artistic really.
My grandpa was a cabinet maker and woodworking teacher and my dad works in the construction... but that's about it, I've never touched a woodworking tool before the age of 31, and I hope that knowing that will inspire you to try new things!
I learned woodworking by watching youtube videos, and reading a few books, but mostly by practicing, experimenting, and solving problems.
This channel is meant to be a contribution to the youtube woodworking community, without which I wouldn't be making anything at all.
If you like my builds, follow me on tchiksguitars
PS: I don't sell anything, even though I find your offers very flattering :)

I built a bass guitar for my daughter (6 yo)
My daughter has been in every single one of my videos since I started this channel in early 2020, and she always steals the show with her sassy comments. The reactions to her jokes have been overwhelmingly positive through the years (as in, literally every other comment is about her and not the guitars ...........).
Now it was time to really put my bossy child to work, so we decided to build a bass for her.
In this build she made a lot of decisions: the color of the top, fading from pink to natural, is her idea, as well as having 2 sizes of fret dots, she chose the colors for the knobs, the arangement of the neck laminate, ... We went for a u-bass design because I was affraid that metal strings would hurt her fingers (turns out I was wrong, I later made a regular bass, and it makes no difference). The body has that classic Tchiks shape, turns out it was very easy to adapt to a bass, I just had to bring the upper horn closer to the 12th fret.
Making this bass just after the Red Special was a funny coincidence. Brian May made his famous guitar with his dad after all.
Needless to say, this was very very fun to make. And I'm very pleased with the results, and so is Zoé, she LOVES that bass and plays it all the time.
I guess I'll be making more basses for her in the future, as her body grows.
For the French Polishing part, I literally had no idea of what I was doing, so if you want to learn more about it, just check the master: @CranmerGuitars
There will be more basses on this channel in the very near future, in the form of a tutorial on "how to make a Precision bass", in the style of my previous tutorial series (how to make a Telecaster), so stick around!
As always,
Thanks for watching,
Bisou,

I built a tribute to Brian May's Red Special, you won't believe how complex it is
zhlédnutí 1MPřed rokem
Here it is at last, my way over-due film about the making of a Red Special replica ! As I've stated over and over again on this channel, I'm a huge Brian May fan. More than just a legendary rockstar, he's like a celebrity role model for me. His careers, both musical and acadamic, his brilliant mind, his odd ways of approaching things, and his humility, have always inspired me. As a kid I preten...

By popular demand, here's a guitar lesson with tabs so you can learn how to play the riff that I play on almost all of my build videos. I'm glad some of you asked for it, it shows that you appreciate it and pushed me to try something new, again. This was fun and all, but it actually demands quite a bit of work ! I'm playing a Les Paul style guitar that I built. czcams.com/video/yOO9QWr81eg/vide...
I made a guitar from IKEA furniture. How does it sound?
zhlédnutí 847KPřed rokem
In this video I'm gonna show you how I managed to make a guitar using my Ikea furniture as a primary source of material. This idea came to me while I was making a Brian May's Red Special replica: while I was following the footsteps of Dr. May, like anyone who's ever made a Red Special I guess, I kept asking myself the following questions: "what the ....?", "how did he ...?", "wait a minute ..."...
I HAD to build a Les Paul style guitar after the Electric Shelf 335 ! (Guitar Making ASMR)

It took me more than one year to finish this build, not so much because the build was complicated, but life is... A little bit of context: this was supposed to be the material for a tutorial on how to make guitars at home for the beginner woodworker. But then I broke my wrist, and ended up making a Telecaster for that tutorial , using only one hand (most underrated video on CZcams by the way). ...
I've always wanted a blue guitar, so I built one (with Madinter wood only)

This was my plan B for the Great Guitar Build Off 2021, in case the One Piece build went wrong. But it didn't, ... so now the "B" stands for blue (thank you @CranmerGuitars for the name suggestion). Lots of first times with this build: - first time using veneer (quilted maple veneer from @madinterwoodformusic ) and first time using a veneer press (using a skateboard veneer vacuum bag from Roaro...
Guitar offcut project : building a chair

I had a few commenters on my videos worried about the "HUGE AMOUNT OF WASTE WOOD" I produced with my guitar builds, and in my last video I explained that I started woodworking by working exclusively with scrap wood. I still have the same philosophy today: I very rarely buy wood to make one specific project, every once in a while I go to the lumber yard and buy one rough sawn board, because I ra...

This is build n°9, and my 6th guitar build! And this is also a very special video for me as it is my official entry to The Great Guitar Build Off 2021: Invitational competition. It is a friendly competition where CZcamsrs and Makers get the opportunity to showcase their creativity through the building of a guitar. The 10 guitars then get auctioned on eBay and all proceeds are going to different...
I carved a guitar out of a SINGLE BLOCK OF WOOD

This is build n°9, and my 6th guitar build! I'm lucky enough to be part of the invitational participants of this year's Great Guitar Build Off competition (I don't really know why, maybe some intern made a mistake and now they have to stick with it ... anyway, I'm here now). After making a guitar out of a shelf and then a guitar using only one hand, the next step was logical: making a guitar ou...

I Built A Guitar Using Only One Hand (REUPLOADED with voice over comments !)

This is the first time in the history of this channel that you're going to hear my voice ! Originally I wanted to add a voiceover to explain some of the things I did during the build, but it ended up just being pointless trivia about my life, and random nonsense. I just can't help it, sorry :) For the technical side of things, you'll have to check out the upcoming tutorial, more on that bellow....
I built a guitar with one hand.

Due to a wrist injury in October, I spent 8 weeks with a cast around my wrist and forearm. After two weeks without playing any instrument or building anything, I decided I’d try and make a guitar from scratch, using only one hand and using only hand tools. Lucky for me I’m right handed. I got the cast changed two times over the course of 2 months because my forearm kept shrinking and my wrist s...

@@tchiksguitars I see- also, why does my house smell so burny all of the sudden?
What's the tool used at 6:44?
Beautiful work ❤
Brian May's dad went on to design furniture for IKEA! Just kidding!
Travail de dingue je suis jaloux bravo a toi
Merci :)
Hmmm thats very SuStainable
For how much did the guitar sell in the end?
I think 2150 pounds
you just made it so complex! LMAO!!!!
That song ❤
Tribute? Nah dude, you made a copy. Be real.
Amazing work! ...but I think Zoe would enjoy some googly eyes on that spoke-shave so the shavings come out like a tongue :P
That's a brilliant idea !!!!!
You forget to insert thrust rod...
Sure
Just bought my wife a bass so that we can play together. I might find a nice kids bass and teach my daughter too
alguien sabría decirme cómo se llama el género q tocaba después de armarla?
what are the songs u are playing to test it?
I love you. Genuinely.
Trick. (The highest 70’s engineering accolade known )
That contraption for hitting the chisel is pretty sick
Cool, nice job! I have a question: I have seen your signature on the headstock of the guitar, and that it is finished with tru oil. Is the signature made with a permanent marker? I have a guitar to be finished, which has the autograph of a guitarist that I would like to keep. And I would like to know if the tru oil (original finish, before sanding) will respect the signature. And if so, any special solvent? acetone dissolves it (it is an edding marker) Thanks in advance.
Have you ever thought of building a replica of the LaBaye 2x4? A commercially available replica exists (which I own) but it’s not quite like the original and I’d love to see you properly replicate it.
I’m jus mesmerized
she's a prodigy, amazing bass player
I'm wanted to watch a relaxing video about craftmanship. Ended with a big smile in my face and small tears in my eyes. You show, how important a careful father is for children. When she will be adult, she always will feel the trust and love of father and this will give her the power to stand any difficulties in life. And the bass looks very nice!
Beautiful instrument.
that's such a beatiful bass, i would love a standard size but i understand it's for your daughter
This guy is a Master.
Great!!! Good job Sir 👋👍🙌👀
String sustain should be great, I'm really curious how it's sounds, wow wooden knobs?
15:30 😅😅😅🥰❤ hahaha kid is amazing
Don’t want to brag or anything but I made a baby, much more complicated than a silly guitar
I know the guy who keeps Brian's guitars working and made the newest one out of the same fireplace. He also made other guitars for him too. Lives in my town
I know this 3 years ago but you are an inspiration and a REAL craftsman! excellent work!
У вас там помощник маленький 😊
Le boeuf , les carottes…
J’adore la complicité avec la petite, ça me rappelle ma fille quand je bricole, sauf que bon, moi je fabrique pas des guitares absolument superbes
I don’t usually leave comments but this was both so impressive and wholesome. Your daughter is a natural and I love the dynamic you two share.
Amazing work! So sweet that your daughter helps you with everything. Sounds beautiful!!! I want one now!
