The 2014, 2016, and 2018 picks became James Young, Jaylen Brown, and Ante Žižić (the 2018 first-round pick was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, along with Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder). The Boston Celtics ended up getting the #1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, which was traded to the Philadelphia Sixers for the #3 pick in the same draft. In 2022, Danny Ainge traded Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler (#22 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft), Jarred Vanderbilt, 2023 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick, 2029 first-round pick, plus the right to swap first-round picks in 2026. I actually hated the trade for new z jersey, (one never use Ainge as a trade partner, but Pierce and Garnett were Past their primes and they gave up a ton of picks that set their team back…

At the time, I thought it was a win-win for both teams, Brooklyn was trying to go all in to win a championship and it looked like kg and Paul Pierce still had years left but I certainly didn't expect a championship out of it, Boston was just trying to rebuild as their core just wasn't getting any younger

I think we can look back at this trade and say that ultimately the Celtics blew their opportunity for a championship.

Those picks turned into James Young, Jaylen Brown, and the '18 pick was used in the Kyrie deal. The Nets finished 6th, squeezed out 7 gamer that the raps should've won then got wiped by Miami. I'll give this one to Boston but it is not glamorous

Looking back, it's strange how people were so convinced that Brooklyn team would be a superteam. Those old guys on the Celtics weren't winning championships as is, and suddenly in their old age they're going to win one? With an even worse declining Deron Williams? Joe Johnson was probably the most reliable player on that team, and that's sad.

Lol crazy how 30 million for 3 years was considered a big contract back then. Getting Kyle Kuzma for 15 mil a year would be considered a steal.

The most important piece of this trade is not even listed, the 2017 pick swap. Celtics took Fultz #1, Nets took Kyle Kuzma. Obviously the Celts Fultz for Jayson Tatum. The Nets packaged Kuzma and an expiring BLopez for D'Angelo Russell (Lakers were beginning to clear cap space for LBJ) who went on to be traded for Kevin Durant. It's amazing how many players the original trade ended up touching.

At that time, it seems like a bad trade for the C's cus nobody expected the Nets to be sooo bad (Hence the lottery picks the Cs got). You can understand why Bill hated it at that time because it might not be a lottery pick and he wants KG and Pierce to retire as C's

honestly this trade in an odd way benefited both these teams. Celtics ended up with Kyrie, Tatum, Brown etc, ultimately losing Kyrie to the Nets, who's poor success with this trade left the door and opportunity open for KD and others to join

Anyone who says hindsight is twenty twenty and who could have known things would turn out this way? Need to understand they don't know basketball GMing like Mr. Simmons here. There were people who knew, albiet not a lot of us, but some of us knew when this trade was made it was one of the biggest heists in NBA history. Now granted I didn't know the Nets would almost immediately inplode like they did but it was very obvious that at least all but maybe one of these draft picks would be good. Anyone with a brain knew that even with this trade the Nets weren't gonna overtake Lebron and they would die in a couple years and it would take some bookkeeping magic to save them. Instead they further dug their graves. Boston's GM isn't a genius, he just took advantage of stupidity. Although the GMs that do that are usually the ones with rings even though he somehow managed to never get one with all this help.

Even before the Durant and Kyrie signings... I was AMAZED how quickly the Nets recovered from that trade. They actually made the playoffs in 2019!
