    I get why Simmons hated this trade, he wanted to see Pierce and Garnett end their careers with the celtics, but the celtics won this trade by a huge margin.

    • @SchulzEricT
      @SchulzEricT Před 8 lety +40

      +Daniel Connell I think his gut, knee-jerk reaction was based on that; it was an emotional reaction to seeing key players of his team leave, guys whose numbers will be retired finish their career out with another team, particularly Pierce. I think that had he been given more time to process it, after he got over that initial disappointment of discovering that Pierce would not finish his career having only played for one team, he would've been much more excited about the trade, and seen how smart of a trade it was.
      Certainly he's loving it now; not sure how long it took for him to come around, but I imagine that most of his not liking the trade dissipated quickly and that after a few days of processing that Pierce wouldn't retire as a career Celtic, he came around.

      Marcus Smart was the first pick(kind of been average, maybe needs more time as a starting PG, still young)
      Then Jaylen Brown(has shown some flashes, super athletic, has great potential, too soon to say anything)
      Now either Fultz/Ball/Josh Jackson(all three of these guys have superstar potential)
      Boston clearly won this trade.
      And in about 4-5 years we could really be saying the Nets got robbed.
      That is why Boston will probably hold on to their picks. Why trade them for Butler or PG right now?
      Keep in mind they have the nets pick next year too.
      Boston could have four top 5 picks on the same roster in 5 years. (history shows it takes 4-5 years for a player to enter their prime)
      Also keep in mind that Brad Stevens could be Gregg Popovich 2.0

    • @showman40
      @showman40 Před 7 lety

      Exactly! Boston has to keep their picks, not buying into these immediate-win-now types of trades that'll take them nowhere. They have such an incredible future ahead of them, with a possible Brown/Fultz/Porter Jr. (or Bamba, or Ayton, or...) roster that could turn out to be a future dynasty. *Just a little correction, the player selected at the 2014 draft with the Nets pick wasn't Smart at 6th (that was Boston's pick) but James Young at 17th.

    In 2013, Danny Ainge traded Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and D.J. White to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, MarShon Brooks, Kris Joseph, Keith Bogans and three first-round picks, which were from 2014, 2016, and 2018, plus the right to swap first-round picks in 2017. The 2014, 2016, and 2018 picks became James Young, Jaylen Brown, and Ante Žižić (the 2018 first-round pick was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, along with Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder). The Boston Celtics ended up getting the #1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, which was traded to the Philadelphia Sixers for the #3 pick in the same draft. The Celtics ended up selecting Jayson Tatum at #3, while the Sixers took Fultz at #1.
    In 2022, Danny Ainge traded Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler (#22 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft), Jarred Vanderbilt, 2023 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick, 2029 first-round pick, plus the right to swap first-round picks in 2026.

      @jamison.whiskey6058 Před 7 lety +1

      MYFAVORITES5 what do you mean haven't done anything with them yet??? Young top lottery prospects ARE "GRAND"! These lottery selections are why Philadelphia has brought shame to the franchise for TANKING all these years to get draft picks. We are now witnessing THE LAKERS tank this season because they have hit rock bottom post kobe. There's no other way to rebuild an NBA franchise. Boston Celtics did the impossible, speeding up the rebuilding process by trading their aging Hall of Famers for extremely valuable assets. Outside of these draft picks and jaylen brown, Danny Ainge has traded away worthless assets and players and turned them into up and coming superstar Isaiah Thomas, two way wing jae crowder, developing avery bradley, all while attracting AL horford in free agency. and most likely Gordon Hayward in the summer of 2017.
      so you casual fan should take some time looking at the top three prospects of this year and 2018 if you want to see the most talented young players the world has to offer. Boston will have dibs unless they trade the picks, which is highly unlikely

      Thanks for the 2018 names. Imagine if they had a young dominating Power Forward / Center at the defensive end? O.O
      But they're still just picks as of now. Our best chance, even with the #1 position pre lottery, is that we pull #4. The trade is still a fleece, but you gotta draft well (no Sam Booie or whoever was drafted in Jordan's class), and you need to hope you get players to fit holes on your roster (though it's always best to take the greater talent since, again, you can trade good talent for something).
      I'll be looking into some of the videos of the picks soon, though I'm no evaluator. Fultz the number one right now I think, so start with him and check mock drafts.
      Isn't there a prospect whose dad is looking to get him and his brothers a billion dollar shoe deal? Steer clear unless you're ready to pay max money to that guy early in his career. xC

It directly lead to the lowest point in the history of the franchise. But you know what, the fans wanted Kobe to stay in purple and gold. Jeanie put her money where her mouth is and showed that " Laker for life" actually means something. There were some dark times but here we are four years later winning another championship. The Lakers decided to stick with their guy and let the chips fall where they may. I'm guessing Bill Wishes the Celtics had done the same.

    Boston ended up getting James Young (#17 in 2014), Jaylen Brown (#3 in 2016) and the last pick was leveraged in the Kyrie Irving trade (Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the pick for Kyrie), the Cavs picked Colin Sexton (#8 in 2018). I think it’s a little overblown how good the trade ended up being for Boston, but it’s terrible for Brooklyn, so Boston wins it by default.
