The apple trees sheltered the women giving birth to first born babies. The dates saved Moses and sustained him. The nuts in shells are like new dreams being brought into being as we step forward. The wine is both the blood of new dreams and the symbol of joy and gladness. Coconut shreds may also be added to symbolize the straw used in making the bricks as well as for food. Cinnamon is the fragrant spice of Heaven replacing the sulphuric odor of creation. Honey is the sweetness of Love and kindness which brings people together in peace. May your seder be joyful and the lost memories of precious traditions be restored. In honor of the memory of Rabbi Eugene Gottesman
