Brig Satjit Singh, AVSM, VSM (Retd), a distinguished officer of the Indian Army, played a pivotal role in defending India during the Battle of Poonch in the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Hailing from a Sikh family deeply affected by the partition of 1947, Brigadier Singh's personal history is marked by resilience and a commitment to service.
Brig Satjit Singh, AVSM, VSM (Retd), the then commanding officer of the Unit in the unit Quarter Guard, sheds light on the Battle of Poonch.
He joined Indian Army, where his leadership and tactical acumen quickly distinguished him. During the 1971 Indo-Pak War, he was instrumental in the defense of the strategically crucial town of Poonch. It played a crucial role in protecting the strategically vital town of Poonch, firing an unprecedented 12,500 rounds, the highest number by any regiment in that operation. The regiment played an important part in the capture of Nangi Tekri on 11 December 1971.
