Let's Make A Custom Enchantment in 1.21 - Talon's Oasis - Ep 137
Data-driven enchantments have been released! So let's try them out! We'll be experimenting with some of the new features while making a dynamite enchantment (pun intended). Also Confurious. 🤣
Extra Stuff:
*Updating Enchantments* - Quite a few of my gadgets use enchantments like the Hologram pickaxe and the Rod of Equal Trade. Now that these can be triggered from the enchantment itself, I'm really excited to update these in the future and hopefully have a bit less lag in my world! (from the repeating command blocks that ran the checks for those gadgets before)
*Witch Farm Works!* - I AFKed at the Witch Farm while editing and instead of getting like a stack or maybe two like before I got 13 stacks! That's so huge for the constant redstone shortage in our world! It honestly almost seems too strong, but it's just really nice having a more consistent way to get redstone.
*Number Providers* - So I had to cut it out, but you can actually embed storage values and scoreboard scores inside a number provider meaning each time we run it, there could be unique values per entity for example. It also allows for more complex "equations" without more scoreboard calculations, which I like. Super cool underrated addition for sure!
Command Block Survival is a gamemode where every command has a self-imposed price. It allows crafting of certain creative mode items (the recipe is part of the price) and adds an entirely new dimension of creativity!

      I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean can a spawn egg trigger a block display, then yes. A spawn egg can trigger any command, so it could easily trigger a block display.

      If you aren't sure how something works, don't be afraid to just try things. That's how I learned, by just running commands until I understood them. Rather than a tutorial, try these two commands: - in a orange command block put: give @p endermite_spawn_egg[custom_name='{"text":"Create Display"}',lore=['{"text":"Right Click to create display entity"}'],entity_data={id:"minecraft:endermite",Tags:["create_display"],Silent:1b,NoAI:1,Lifetime:2399}] 1 - in a purple command block put: execute as @e[type=endermite,tag=create_display] at @s run PUT_COMMAND_FROM_VIDEO_HERE - Optional in a green command block (set to always active) connected to the purple one put: execute as @e[type=endermite,tag=create_display] at @s run PUT_SECOND_COMMAND_FROM_VIDEO_HERE The orange one will give you a spawn egg. And the spawn egg will summon the displays.

    I knew fiddling with size would cause chaos and I am here for all of it >:) Personally I like having to adapt your world to the things that you change... you always talk about balanced changes... well, having consider endermen getting into your small gap is one of those natural downsides that comes along with the fun of varied size.

    I feel like the best solution is to adjust the enderman size variations to make sure they don’t go as low as 2 blocks tall, if they go taller than 3 blocks they might have the ability to kill your endermite but I think you could fix that by blocking it better or by raising it a block

      Yeah, I hadn't thought about the consequences of them being too tall; that's a good point. As far as blocking the farm better that would work, but I want the solution to not require adjustments to the farm in the hopes that any old farm setup would be safe.

    I like that you made it so that enderman are always the same size when in a farm (near an endermite) but I think that they should still be varying sizes when occurring naturally, just maybe to a lower degree? Maybe the smallest enderman can only be 2.5 blocks tall, or .83 times the size of a normal enderman? Just some ideas. Love the vid!

    when i try and use the command blocks it says i must be an opped player in creative mode... (in singleplayer world)

      Yeah, cheats have to be enabled for it to work. You have three options: 1. Remake the world with cheats enabled. 2. Temporarily turn cheats on by opening to LAN and enabling cheats there (this only lasts until you close the world). 3. Use an NBT editor to turn cheats on for the world you already have (this is harder to do and easier to mess things up, only recommended if you make a backup). Also note that this pack has been updated quite a bit. The updates (and changes to how things work) are listed on the Planet Minecraft page.

      Not that I know of. The datapacks control worldgen and that's the part that Bedrock doesn't have. If add-ons or behavior packs can control world gen then maybe this could be used, but as it stands I don't believe Bedrock has access to this type of generation control.

    I am not sure if I like the leash more or less but if you want it to follow you you could make something like an invisible zombie ride it and then it will pathfind to you. Maybe an invisible dog is better since that way it will also pathfind to enemies

      I did think about an invisible bee since they pathfind to specific coords that could be programmed, but that would effectively double the entities loaded in the world (same with zombies or anything else). The idea itself is sound, but I think it's a last resort since there could be a lot of these things in the world.

      I actually cut out a scene of me debating that. In the end I think the sound draws your eye, which is good, but if it gets annoying over time, I may very well have to do what you suggest.

    Btw if you want to make the hologram pickaxe less dangerous then maybe make it so when you are holding it it highlights all of the holograms in a certain radius. Edit: I like teleporting better

      Honestly, the hologram pickaxe should never have caused that at all. I must have gotten lazy or not updated something properly for 1.20.5. I like the idea of being able to see holograms in a radius; it can sometimes be hard to tell which is block and which is hologram. The trick would finding an input for it (right click, left click, shift, etc). Yeah, the teleporting is cool. It really is nice having them function somewhat independently. I think if I make a block list of all transparent blocks it would improve things further. Definitely a fan of not having the leashes in my face though.

    Sup sry I did not comment on this vid, I was on vacation but here is an idea make a way to fuse any item with a tool basically making tool skins🌝. Edit: another idea is that you can like enchant any block and it will mine its own block supper quickly like a dirt block mines a dirt block

      That's a really interesting use. It would have to have a pretty huge cost, maybe the spawner gets slightly nerfed when it's picked up like it spawns less stuff or something.

      Thats pretty smart i didnt think about that, maybe you could also make the spawner turn on way faster spawning whenever you tried to break it with the tool, so youd have to dodge zombies/whatever while breaking it. I think that would be a fun challenge. Though i dont know how youd go about doing that with commands🤔

    I know its a been a while since this was uploaded, but i just found your channel and thought this idea was super sick, but i only got bedrock edition. Im gonna try and make a sequence of command blocks to get all of the crafting and command block usability going, but probably gonna be really dificult considering im not super knowledgable about commands, i know enough to do pretty much everything, but when it gets to more complex stuff im a little dumb lol

      Issue 1- for some reason when i paste the exact line of code from the rest of the command block line for crafting recepies, it doesnt work with redstone or redstone blocks, but it seems to with every other item ive tried (Fixed: i had to set the identifier as [type=item,name="block of redstone"] instead of name=redstone_block or "redstone block") Issue 2 - actually using the command block, ill need to find a way to gmc for a split second when i tap on the block, which is gonna be funky to figure out (update: im using scoreboards to set a value to 1 if youre holding a command, structure or border block and 0 if you arent. thats the only way i could figure to make your gamemode change for multiple different blocks, the issue im running into now, is there is no way to exclude items from search, so i can only say for instance testfor @a[hasitem={item=command_block,location=slot.weapon.mainhand}] instead of using ! To exclude the command block, which would allow it to only activate when im holding something other than it. So because of that i went to the scoreboard method and i have one standalone command block that constantly updates scoreboard to 0, then the others that make it 1 run on top, this method works perfectly when not switching game modes, but for some reason when i set it up to switch me into survival when scoreboard =0 and creative when soarboard =1 only then does it start to flick back and forth, which is incrdibly weird and i cant understand why.)Edit 2: Fixed! - i feel kind of dumb for not realizing this sooner, but thanks to some smart reddit people i realized that you can just put a repeat commandblock with repeating seting @a to creative mode but adding a identifer to only select @a holding command block, then repeating that in a whole bunch of command blocks for every item i want to be in creative for, and then for switching back do the same thing but set @a holding all of the items count=0 which means if none of the items are in my hand it will set me to survival! Issue 3 - removing placed command blocks. Theyve got a durability of -1 so using commands to remove them is gonna be the only way unless i figure out a way to gmc for that too(this one should be fixed when i figure out the gamemode switch while holding the blocks) Issue 4- placing, and counting placed command blocks, since you cant place them in survival, and placing them in creative wont subtract any(ive figured out how to remove 1 command block from your inventory, but i cant seem to find a way to detect if a player places a specific block, not on bedrock edition atleast, so im going to have to delay this part untill i find a workaround there) Issue 5 - you cant craft more than one at a time, if you try to it will delete all of your items and only give one command block.(i think this one might be something we have to live with because with the exclusion of nbts in bedrock it severely limits the ability of working with items in that way) Issue 6 - it gives the person closest to spawn(where the command blocks i have to do this are set up) the command block upon crafting, so it isnt multiplayer friendly right now. (I think this one might be something we have to live with as well, it might be something i can work around using player tags, but id have to find out a way to detect what player dropped an item for the crafting, and even more to get the creative while holding a block to work in multiplayer, so i think it might have to be limited to singleplayer. Might be for the best tho haha) Will be updated as i go along, any input/suggestions welcome (As of right now it is working, just not able to be used with multiple people, and you have to manually count and get rid of your command/structure/border blocks as you place them)

      To be honest I know very little about Bedrock. The functions should be pretty straightforward to copy over as long as you pay attention to the order (and the @s stuff). The harder part is the advancements, item modifiers, recipes, and tags. I have no idea if there's anything comparable in Bedrock. Maybe in add-ons or behavior packs or whatever they're called, might be worth looking into. Man, maybe I should look into Bedrock addons...

      ​@Talon2863 let me know if you do look into it, not many people post stuff regarding commands on bedrock so it ends up being a smash your face into a keyboard untill it works type thing lol. The problem ive been having with moving stuff over is that bedrock is missing a whole bunch of the things java has such as nbts and the such, so ive kinda resigned to remaking it from scratch. Im exclusivly on xbox otherwise i could look into making a behavior pack, but since consoles cant download from 3rd party, itd be useless even if i did figure it out.

      Ah unfortunate. I will say, a project like that should be an excellent learning experience. You'll probably end up familiar with a lot of commands and how they interact with each other, which I assume was part of the original goal in downloading this datapack in the first place.

      @@Talon2863 oh yeah im already noticably better, ive used a lot of your videos of reference ideas for how to get things to work aswell, you definately dont think the same way i do which is good to work with since you come up with a lot of things i couldnt. Also i didnt even realise you were this small of a channel untill just a second ago, i though youd atleast have like 100k based on the quality of these vidoes. Keep up the good work lmao

      Recipe files have to split up the syntax a little differently. If you aren't already, try using this site: misode.github.io/recipe/ It shows you where to put stuff in and how to format it. Like for example you have to split up the components and the item id.

      To reply to all your comments: 1. Thanks! 2. An all-in-one tool would be interesting. It would have to have a pretty big downside, since it removes the need to match the tool to a block as well as removing the time to swap tools as well. 3. Another interesting suggestion. I've thought about creating some long range teleport that causes you to lose items the farther you travel or damages things, might make for an interesting tradeoff.

    Hey Talon, on the newest snapshot (24w18a), you can add custom enchantments through datapacks, and they have a trigger that detects when you hit a block with left click, with that in mind, couldn't you add an enchantment to pickaxes that when you try to mine a command block with it, the block is automatically broken and dropped? This could be better than sneaking and would make more sense to destroy a command block (witch is a powerful block) using an enchanted pick, if you wanted, you could add this enchantment to every pickaxe in your inventory and hide it so you could use them to trigger the block breaking. I think this new mechanic with enchantments could be explored for many things, but if you want to try it, remember that this snapshot is the first of the 1.21 update and you dont need to activate de 1_21 pack for the new blocks and structures to be generated, this could corrupt your world!

      Yeah, someone else mentioned these new enchantments. They sound pretty cool! I may very well try something like that. Although I think instead of enchanting every pickaxe I might try turning the command blocks themselves into a tool (think I saw something new about that in 1.20.5) and then use that new hit detection you're talking about. Could be a lot more natural, which would be cool. I probably will hold off on the 1.21 snapshot for now though, since they usually change stuff and sometimes that breaks contraptions you make in earlier snapshots.

    Is it possible to spawn the structure instead of normal vanilla structures? Can I for example replace current stronghold with my custom structure?

      Not 100% sure. There's two possibilities: make your own and use the default name so minecraft:stronghold in a minecraft namespaced folder hoping it would replace it or make a custom dungeon in your own namespace but give it the stronghold logic for being placed (it wouldn't replace the original, but could be found in a similar manner).

      You just gave me such a good idea! What if someone (map maker) made a mini village with working mini villagers and a huge zombie is about to crush them and you could buy towers with skeletons (that are automatically agro'd at the zombie so they will only shoot the zombie) that shoot at the zombie (zombie has boss bar) and the zombie follows and invisible path made with barrier blocks, when he comes close to the village his hitbox will trigger presure plates that will end the game and display game over screen

      I don't play modpacks very often, but I can appreciate the effort put into a modpack (I tried making a single mod a long time ago, it didn't go so well, haha). Definitely a cool achievement!
