Do All Dealerships Suck?
Do All Dealerships Suck?
In this video I ask a question as to why there is such a difference between car dealerships and tractor dealerships? And my experience with them especially B&T McFarlane and Kubota.

    Yeah I see your point. I have a Toyota and a ford and the Toyota dealer was a better experience as they have set prices and it is what it is. No back and forth. But hey I love Toyota so I’m a bit bias. We are from the same cloth my friend. I research stuff to death before I decide. Good luck Ross. Maybe try a Toyota. lol. Cheers, Have an awesome Canada long weekend.

    How's she goin'? This is an interesting topic Ross. I have to say I have been buying cars from the same guy, he was a school buddy of mine, since forever. So when it comes time to get a new vehicle, I call him up and tell him I'm ready for a new rig and he gets back to me with what he thinks I would like to have and more times than not, that's the rig I end up with. When I bought my tractor in 2007, I checked with John Deere and the salesman was pretty nice. But he told me straight up, "You could go to the Massey Ferguson dealer and get basically the same tractor for less money, but it won't be a John Deere." So guess what I did? I went to the Massey Dealer and did basically what he said and I got a much better deal. In fact when I walked into the dealer, the owner came out and asked if he cold help. I told him I was looking for a tractor and we talked about size and so on. When we settled on the sub compact, he told me what they sold for and then said, "But I'll take $2 000 off that right now." And he didn't even know me form Adam!! So I agree with you, tractor dealers use a much different strategy than do car dealers. Great video. Thanks and take 'er easy!!

    I agree Ross. Buying a Tractor was a whole lot better experience than any car I have bought. Coarse I think its Depends on Dealer. I have a large tractor dealer near me that you are just a number and have not had very good experiences lately with them. My last new tractor I bought was from a smaller dealer and very personal. Very happy and when I walk in they know me by name. Car Dealer are definitely in a different world.

    Totally agree Ross. The tractor / farm dealerships treat you so much better than a car dealership. I have been to your tractor Kubota dealership BTM several times and have purchased attachments / implements, fluids and filters. Each time it was a great experience. The same thing here in Perth with the Kubota dealership where I have purchased multiple tractors and implements / attachments etc., fantastic experience and super continuous after sales support. I have been down to Messick's in the USA and bought some stuff, great experience. In the past 10 years I have traded in my truck and purchased a new one five times. Every time, the sales person would go back and forth between me and the sales manager, just like you said, like there is a big secret, continuously trying to get more out of me of what I don't want. Then after they get you to sit with the finance manager to determine how you are going to pay and then he / she starts pushing all kinds of extra coverage crap on top of the selling price . I say no to everything and they don't like it. Once you walk out the door with payment made on your new car / truck my experience is that there is no support now that they got my money. Your right, the whole process then the after sales service, it's just not there. Yeah, I would buy a Kubota truck too! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  • @TimeAfterTym
    @TimeAfterTym Před 13 hodinami

    I am very aggressive in my purchasing of automobiles and it is no problem for me to spend up to seven hours to get the price I want to pay. I am civil but in no way do I consider car salesman a friend. The problem with automobiles and also motorcycles(at least Harley Davidson‘s) is that the manufacturers dictate to the dealerships how many models of a particular vehicle they must sell in order to be able to acquire the most desired models to sell on the showroom floor. I am sure that this isn’t part due to each manufacturer ensuring that they meet their projected income goals. So in order to acquire a Ford F150, platinum edition, for instance, a particular dealership might have to sell 50 Ford focuses. You can find this online. My experience in dealing with tractor dealerships particularly TYM dealerships, has given me the feeling that they are interested in developing and old-time business relationship, focusing on developing a relationship with their customer base to ensure repeat business in terms of service, support, product purchases, and new tractor sales. If you ever come down to the equip expo, we can talk about this more in detail. I am not a fan of the auto dealership experience. In fact, my worst experience was when I had to call the police to get my car keys back from the dealership so that I could leave since I was no longer interested in purchasing a car from them. Hope to see you at the equip expo one day, Ross.

    They don’t like cash buys anymore either at the dealerships. It’s a different world out there customer service wise than in the past. I passed on a 2018 Colorado because I wanted to pay 2k less than sticker price in cash and they said no. Apparently they make more with financing.

    Great video Ross. I think you’re spot on with the car dealers. I think that’s a great thing, the relationship you have with your tractor dealer. With some dealerships, or stores, doesn’t matter what they are selling, it seems to be about, the almighty dollar, as my uncle use to say. Have a great Canada Day weekend Ross. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋🇨🇦🇨🇦💥💥💣💣🚜

    Ross I sold cars for years and managed dealerships and I totally agree with you. It’s such a bull$:/- game. I hated it and did not follow the norm. I was very successful in the number of sales by being open and honest without the game playing. Unfortunately I was not the most financially successful salesman. But at least I enjoyed meeting people and helping them get a new or used car. The most confusing thing about the whole sale process is that they really don’t make large sums of $$ selling vehicles. It all is made in the service and upkeep of the vehicles. Now that I’m retired I hate the thought of getting a new car.

      Eliminating the need for real product training and decision making at the sales level. “Just follow the steps” and turn over the staff after they practiced on their family and friends. This way the sales department only needed a couple of product specialists or overseer’s. In days gone by when sales were straight commission you either learned the process and excelled or got out(starved) In the 90s dealerships (at least in Ontario) were forced to commit to the equivalent of minimum wage through the labour board and this changed the whole dynamic of auto sales to wage and bonus. Now sales need to be made to cover employment expenses. Minimize list sales. More levels of involvement with less knowledge at the bottom. Just follow the steps!! You won’t get the information you’re looking for because they aren’t capable of providing it. Really I think it would be better if it was more like a big box store purchase. Here’s the price, check out the specs or types of features you want , wait for a sale. Make a purchase. Is it really an employment practice we want to preserve? Don’t we have enough ankst in our lives today? Like the commercial I’m sure you’ve seen “Who’s paying for this building “ LOL Len

      Fantastic explanation! I do agree, I kind of like the idea of shopping for a car online, pick what you want, pay for it, and it shows up at your house a few days.. (or weeks/months) later. I agree with you. When I was looking for a truck in 2018, I was set on a dodge RAM. I walked in the dealer, salesman was not excited to do anything. Wanted to sell me a car without even letting me test drive. When I insisted, he showed me a truck that was close to my requirements but not the right match. He gave me the key. Truck would not start, battery was dead. He said sorry, come another day. I walked out. The next day, one of their staff called to see if I was going to buy a vehicle. I told them my experience and ended up buying a Toyota the next day

    We had the very same experience. The folks at the Kubota dealership were great. Very helpful. When we went shopping for the Jeep, it was nuts. One of the dealerships left me sitting at a desk on my own for ten minutes before returning with his manager and trying to sell me something it I didn’t want. I got the same game at a second dealership. They left me sitting in an office for a while until I just got up and left. When I finally bought the Jeep (used) I was happy with the vehicle but I’ll never go back to the dealership! The Kubota guys are always friendly, no pressure, very helpful. As a result I have returned to them multiple times. No bullsh#* just a friendly place to be. Quite a difference!

    I went to Huckabone's in Cobden and they walked me through the whole process about what the tractor could do and what attachments came with it. No problem. I walked into Petawawa Toyota and told them what I wanted and they suggested various options. They showed me the vehicle that I wanted and that was it. Took about an hour for both deals. For my truck it took me about three years to make up my mind. For the tractor about two crazy snow falls. I am happy with both.

I just serviced my Father in laws 35 year old 3.5HP Tecumseh 20" walk behind that he hadn't used for about 5 years as well. I cleaned the carb and now it starts on one pull. Looks like quite the major rebuild on the Jeep. Wow! I’ve got a couple of wood dumps. It all just turns to dirt. I’ve got a grapple and I just love it! Do you guys see any of that storm that came through yesterday? We got hit a bit but not bad. Cheers!

      @RossOnTheLand Před 15 dny

      I have 3 wood piles, and a big brush dump. :) I really want a grapple along with all the other implements 😂 we got some lightning and thunder with a little rain, but nothing more. Hope you and friends and family are safe. Have a great weekend!

      Thanks Luc! I agree. Just tip the thing over 😁 have a great weekend

  • @rockandrattleretreat5830

    The pallet forks would have been better than the bucket for those logs, a grapple would have been even better....

    • @RossOnTheLand
      @RossOnTheLand Před 15 dny

      I agree. I am looking for a grapple but very expensive 🫰. Have a good weekend

  • @PetersonFarmsofNashvillePFON

    That Kubota can handle some wood ! Creator Tip You should do a 15second remix on the log hung up onto the bucket 👍

    • @RossOnTheLand
      @RossOnTheLand Před 15 dny

      Yes it does! I'm very happy with its capabilities! I did make a short of the log stuck on the end :)
