The Sussex Carol
Having grown up in Worthing, Sussex, here's my arrangement of the jolly Sussex Carol, played on my well worn, Fylde Olivia, made by Roger Bucknall MBE in 1980. I used an open G tuning.

Soul Limbo on Fylde Cricket Bat Guitar!
zhlédnutí 350Před 7 měsíci
"Soul Limbo" by Booker T and the MGs, otherwise known as the theme tune to Test Match Special, beloved by English cricket fans. As England begin their defence as ODI World champions at the 2023 World Cup in India I thought I'd get the Fylde cricket bat guitar out again made for me by Roger Bucknall MBE. This instrument was inspired by the electric cricket bat guitar I played at the WC final in ...

As a freelance guitarist, I occasionally get asked to play ukulele, so I decided to invest in a decent one. This Fylde custom tenor is a beauty!

The Kid On The Mountain - Fylde Olivia and Touchstone Mandolin
zhlédnutí 4,4KPřed 3 lety
This tune has always been a favourite. It has such a joyous defiance, an invincible spirit. I tried to find a definitive version but there seem to be so many variations of the melody. In the end I just went for how I remembered it (rightly or wrongly!) having learned it as a teenager. My mate Rory Dempsey joins me on double bass. Making videos is still new to me. I havent mastered the art of fl...
Si Bheag, Si Mhor for Fylde Long Scale Archtop Bouzouki

Being a guitarist, the bouzouki is a strange and exotic beast! This Fylde Long scale Archtop is a beauty. In an attempt to familiarise myself with it, I decided to come up with an arrangement of this Turlough O'Carolan classic.
The Coventry Carol - Fylde Falstaff, Archtop Bouzouki, Touchstone Mandolin
zhlédnutí 2,5KPřed 3 lety
Here's my arrangment of the Coventry Carol for three instruments made by the legendary Roger Bucknall MBE at Fylde Guitars. I only had two days to arrange and record the tune and make the video, so the editing is fairly basic! I'm playing a Falstaff acoustic guitar, Signature longscale archtop bouzouki and Signature Touchstone mandolin. The carol refers to the Massacre of the Innocents, in whic...
Jerusalem - Fylde Cricket Bat Guitar!
zhlédnutí 973Před 4 lety
After my escapades playing a guitar made out of a cricket bat at the cricket world cup this summer, the very excellent Roger Bucknall of Fylde Guitars made this acoustic cricket bat guitar! As "Jerusalem" is played at the start of play of England matches, here's my arrangement for solo acoustic guitar. It's quite tricky so I have my serious, concentration face on!

Makes me immediately want to : 1- look at the stars and dream 2- get a bouzouki, learn and play It’s cloudy tonight : won’t see the stars But good news is that I already ordered a second hand bouzouki and soon it’ll be there and I’ll learn…
Good luck!
Outstanding! I too am fortunate enough to have had Roger build one for me in 2016 I think. He has one for sale now where the proceeds will be going to charity. At the time I believe Roger said he was doing a run of 6. Not sure how many more he made but their like hen’s teeth. All the best Regards Dave
sweet job
That’s glorious man! Bravo
I was sitting facing the Cameraman this night. So just a table width away from him. A VERY special night for this old Who fan (from the beginning).
This guitar looks identical to my old Fylde Orsino- is tere any difference,I wonder ? Nice tune !
Not sure what the difference is, probably the wood used. I think the Olivia is mahogany back and sides.
@@DaveHolmesRaw The woods look identical to an Orsino, hence my question ! One for Bucknall,I suppose....
Lovely ring and sound well played!
elsker fylden og den Fylde! veldig fint!!
kjempebra! elsker fylden og den Fylde!!
thank you
Lovely
Beautiful!
Great! Do you have sheet music for this? Thanks
No sheet music I’m afraid but the tuning is DGDGBD
Sounding great! New cameras?
Thank you! No, the same cameras I’ve had for the last year or so.
Lovely. Happy Christmas 🎄
Thank you! Happy Christmas!
A delight! Very lovely indeed - thank you.
Thanks Keith!
Wow! Beautiful!
So iconic 😊
Beautiful! Inspiring! Bravo!
Great to see that guitar again, it really is a beauty! Playing's not too shabby either! All the best mate, shame we're not doing this world cup!
Great batting 🏏🎸
Wonderful!
Nice, Dave!
Excellent playing from my first (and only guitar teacher I ever had) 👍
unfortunately this is not live, it sounds exactly like the recording
They were Celine Dion and Lionel Richie in the front row!!. Vanessa played for them and received applause from them, quite an achievement!
This tube Is Amazing! You should make a tutorial about It, would love to learn it.

Beautiful, really. Merry Christmas!
Lovely work Sir! 😊
Bravo!
I've just ordered a Touchstone Signature mandolin off Roger. Really excited to play it.
Вы, большой молодец!!!Спасибо!!!🔥👏👏👏👏👏
I love it when she walked down into the audience playing violin in front of them! That’s a great way to engage your audience.
What is the value of a '75 Olivia in a great condition?
I dont know I’m afraid
Are you selling one?
Definitely not! 😊
@@DaveHolmesRaw Sorry Dave, I thought Johan might be selling one as he was asking about the value.
@@splitpotrose yes, but I'm based in Belgium/Ghent
Who do you love more, Olivia, or Falstaff???
Tricky question! The Falstaff is the better instrument imo but the Olivia is much older and there is a mature openness to the sound. Probably the Falstaff, just!
@@DaveHolmesRaw Wow, Falstaff must be some instrument. Would you mind telling me the serial number of your Olivia please.? Mine is 1560 from 1979.
@@splitpotrose Mine is 1829 and I think its 1980
What tuning is that lovely ditty played in please?
DGDGAD I think! I havent played it for a while! Gsus2 tuning and then capo'd at the 4th fret.

Beautiful thank you!
Bravo sire!
Really beautiful playing, Dave! But...where was that smile at the end!!! Seriously, the instrument is gorgeous and that interpretation was very fine indeed!
Thanks! I was probably just relieved that I’d played a useable take!
Very nice playing of a classic piece…producing a lovely sound…on another beautiful Fylde stringed instrument.
Lovely stuff Dave. 🎸 ✅ 💜
Beautifully done, Dave. And the uke is lovely - maybe one day...
