Tall Ships hangi
Every year the Tall Ships and Classic Invitational boat race in Russell, New Zealand, is followed by a huge hangi - a traditional Maori meal cooked in the ground. More than 800 hungry sailors were fed in the January 6, 2018, Russell Boating Club hangi.

The highlight of the Russell Birdman Festival every winter in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, is the Birdman jump in which contestants try to leap the greatest distance - or in the most entertaining manner - from the end of the town wharf. This clip features the 2017 Birdman parade and a "jump" by the lads from the Duke of Marlborough Tavern.

Hi Alexis - the battle was fought in 1846 between Maori and British forces (and their Maori allies). There's a great website at www.ruapekapeka.co.nz which will tell you everything you'd ever want to know.
