"The US is always discovering foods, that have been known for centuries around the world" The US has always had "tinned Fish"--sardines, kippered herring, tuna, etc. I swear people who make these videos are sheltered and arrogant about it. We always took Kippered Herring on hunting/camping trips when I was a kid. My grandfather ate them for lunch every day when he was a coal miner. I mean, there's a reason Steinbeck's novel is called Cannery Row.

I have a “tools” cooking tip. I use a pavement temperature gun-got it off Amazon. You point it at (cooking food, pavement on an airport runway, sidewalk in Deep South to see if barefoot is an option, baby bath water, candy making liquid headed for whatever temperature). I bought mine from Amazon- gives instant read out without touching food. You’ll know exact temperature. Plus when someone asks if it is hot in here-you can point it at any surface and tell them exact temperature. 🤣

I looove spinach! I love it in any preparation. Other than raw in salads my absolute favorite way to eat it is just sauteed in garlic butter, salt & pepper, with just a tiny but of cream cheese mixed in at the end.

Celery freezes quite well. At least to use in soups and the like. I always chop and freeze two stalks of celery together, that is a perfect amount for most soups and stews. (So use 2 stalks, freeze the rest)

My husbands birthday was yesterday (6/27) and I wish you had posted this a day earlier! So many good ones! We’re having another party with everyone next week so maybe I’ll have him watch this and see if he wants me to make something. The fairy bread is intriguing but he’s not a big sweets person

Beryl trying to figure out how Nasi Tumpeng has me giggling. A cone basket would have helped a lot, but I respect that you honour the culture and you try to your utmost recreate the dishes. MEE BIRTHDAY! YES! I wish I knew the origins of this dish but god I love seeing it every birthday, those noodles and chilli crab are my only two requests every year. Surprise me with either and I will be happy. All I ask for on my birthday is a warm happy meal.

Celery is sold by weight where I am. I just pull a stalk or two off and buy it that way. Sometimes the store will pull them apart and offer them that way, but not always.

tamoyaki pans are amazing for grilled cheese and french toast also, if you just want it for dishes where it's not going to still need to be crunchy (like soups) you can freeze celery. Whatever I know we're not going to eat before it goes bad I wash, chop, and freeze. I do the same with leeks

What you do with celery Beryl is chop it, as you would in recipes. Usually little chopped pieces. Pop it into a zip lock bag and freeze it. Do the same with carrot and onions. I then place them into a second zip lock bag to help prevent freezer burn, and pop them in the freezer. Go over to acre homestead and see what she freezes. It's pretty impressive! It's also a huge time saver if you are last minute cooking in the evening.
