I'm still yet to see anybody pass a double-blind abx test on a pair of bi wired speakers vs non bi wired speakers. If you think you can hear a difference please make a video of you doing a double-blind test and show us that you can hear The Difference. Talk is cheap. If you can't show it, you don't know it

Two of the speakers that I am giving very serious consideration of buying. The Evo 4.4 would suit my room and furniture position better as they would be near to a wall and record racks and their height would be perfect for my listening position. I love all kinds of music but rock in all its guises is played most of the time. The Lintons would probably suit my Linn Sondek vinyl playing system better but I also have thousands of CD’s so I don’t know what to choose and the price with speaker stands is the same as the Evo. Also looks like the Lintons have real wood veneer. I also have a problem being housebound so it is virtually impossible to get to a dealer to audition. I need to rely on other people’s opinions instead of just my own to make a balanced decision.

I love my QUADs ESL 2805. Never heard such detailed and live-like sound. It is as if the instruments are here in the room with me. I cannot wait to hear what the ESL-X sound like.

What is the difference between the plates on the connectors and biwires connecting them on the amp terminals besides a few meters of copper?

I did passive bi-amping once. The bass was better with that configuration. When I took one pair out for repairs, I noticed the bass thinned out.

And then there's the option of vertical or horizontal biamping... Vertical being where each amplifier is dedicated to left or right speaker. Each half of the stereo amp handling treble/bass drive duties separately. Less load on the shared power supply. Etc

Sorry, but does anyone here have dog or cat ears? I have a pair of Totem Hawks and I tried bi-wiring and then single with jumpers. I couldn't tell the difference at all. If you happen to be a dog or a cat, please chime in!

Bi wiring is just using two transmission lines from the SAME amp output. (NOT different amps). The theory behind it has to do with "reflection" (eddy) currents that get reflected back from the high current LF (low freq.) drivers back down the transmission line to the amp by the induced EMF generated by movement of a large speaker cone (the woofer). On a single line this "reflection" may be audible since the high freq. signal will become modulated on top of a "reflected" LF signal. This mixing of direct (HF) and reflected (LF) signals may cause audible distortion. Bi-wiring just limits the induced LF "reflection" signal to the line carrying the direct (original) LF signal. The "reflection" currents are still there but it never gets mixed (or modulated) with high freq. signals. Bi-amping is even a better solution, since both signal are totally isolated you can avoid a passive crossover entirely.

There’s an argument that cross-overs are another on burden on performance. Purpose vs performance remains the deciding issue.

Quads of whatever vintage were always some of my favourite speakers at any price. But I have one concern and that is the spotty and unstable distribution in Canada and North America not to mention obscene price increases that go way beyond inflation. Quad distributors have a sad history of disappearing overnight leaving owners in a bind when their prized possessions need service. And this is no rare occurrence given the history of their made in China break downs and factory defects. It becomes a real nightmare when there's no one around to service speakers you shelled out 20 grand for. Unless you feel like spending big bucks and risk further damage shipping them across the seas.

I have the Wharfedale Diamond shelf speakers but they are a bit too "brilliant and metallic" for want of better words. Got the mission qx5 mk2 also and they are "rich, big and comfy". That seems diametrically opposite of what is apparently to be expected. I'll have my hearing checked...

I just heard the Diamond 9.1, I'm not sure how you can beat this speaker even if you have a $100K budget, I'm not sure if a Speaker can be better than this, the sound this speaker output feels so real.

The best solution is amplified speakers, with buit in signal processing and amplification, its the only way forwards imo

IMHO: With modern advances in amplification, I personally think bi-amping (or bi-wiring) is more of nuisance for speaker manufacturers and consumers than a useful feature

Tried the Audiolab DC blocker. It did a great job at stopping a very audible transformer hum, but unfortunately it also made the music sound dull, lifeless, with a rolled-off treble. (same results with DC-blockers I tried from iFi and Supra) So, I gave up hope on DC-blockers.

Soy propietario de los Mission LX2 MK2. Tienen un sonido grande, suficiente de sobra para una sala de 20 m2. Su sonido es bastante equilibrado. Unos agudos decentes, unos medios "normalitos" y unos graves que destacan. Un sonido relajado, con detalle y muy todoterreno en cuanto a géneros musicales (pero los bajos destacan). Por supuesto, hay muchos altavoces mejores que estos. Lo que pasa es que cuestan mucho más. En España, los he comprado por 157€. Para superarlos, en mi opinión, hay que gastarse bastante más. Los wharfedale 12.1 y 12.2, cuestan 500-550€. No son mejores y cuestan mucho mucho más. (4 veces más!!!). Tengo otros, unos Martin Logan motion i15, que son una delicia. Se escuchan mucho mejor, mucho más detalle en los agudos, en los medios y en los graves. Mejores en todo. PERO, me costaron 900€ (en oferta). Es decir, séis veces el precio de éstos Mission. En MI opinión, es que son unos altavoces muy bonitos, con un muy buen sonido y con un precio insuperable. Para rivalizar, hay que gastar bastante más de lo que cuestan éstos.
