The Layer 2 skill you didn't know you needed...UNTIL NOW!
zhlédnutí 203Před 4 lety
A lot of businesses have not made jumps to layer 3 to the closet over the years. It seems to me that it would be an important skill to be able to trace a layer 2 frame through a large network. In this video, we will look at honing that skill and being able to trace a layer 2 frame through a large network design with daisy chained switches. This also builds on the skills from the last episode wh...

If you don't know how to read the output of CDP neighbor, go no further. This is a great tool to build out the physical topology of a network. Drawing it out on a whiteboard before jumping into a Visio file is a great exercise for deciding how the layout should look. This is a great tool for beginners to learn how to map out their network from the CLI.

Thanks a lot !!
very awesome. i just applied and worked great on version 9.4.1 "7/25/24" Thanks for sharing
Followed this tutorial and my laptop will not connect :(
Do you have a specific error you are getting? There are likely some updates since this was posted in 2021.
Awesome, thanks
You bet!
Thanks for this!
My pleasure!
Awesome video, thanks for the clear explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you that was very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed it! I've failed over many datacenters with this exact method. BGP over the internet is not a science, but more of an art. There are so many different ways to do the same thing.
Did u get a degree in it?
I do have a degree in information systems from Kennesaw State University (Hooty Hoo!!!)
Your video was really awesome! Just drop the Daikiri bar music, please :) It's not necessary at all.
is there a way to do the same in redhat?
what is the left software name?
SecureCRT. It is a program by VanDyke
nano /etc/network/interfaces is empty
How can I put the button bar on the right side of the screen, since when adding many buttons they hide on the right
I built my lab out and just could not get into the routers so this really helped me sort out the rules! Thanks!
So glad it helped you out!
Thanks for sharing. That really helped me a lot
It really is a game changer. I have been working on some custom colors. Using regex has a bit of a learning curve, but once you have a place to start it is really helpful to tweak it up for your specific use case.
Show us how to get good at running this with SSH keys as you would in a production environment! I WANT YOU BACK!!
Hiya... Thanks for the info... question: how can color the output?
I have another video on keyword highlighting. Check it out.
Does this work with config.personal as well?
I believe it does. All personal pieces of the configuration are in the config path.
I have a spare RPi4/4... I need to do this now! Thanks.👍
Did you get around to it? I have since ditched mine for a Firewalla Purple.
Nice job. I'm from a Juniper background and can complete a 2 x DC Failover as per your video with no problem. But now I have inherited a poorly designed Cisco Network that has a C6880X VSS with two x External links. There is no auto failover if the main link goes down. So, my question; how can I get the same failover on a single VSS with two links that are upstream to another 2 x DC?
Are you using BGP to peer with the provider? It should be similar. If it is just default routing with the ISP, then you would want to setup a default route with IP SLA tracking or some metric to move the route from one ISP to the other.
On the lab config files the routers only have two interfaces configured with IP addresses but there are three connections, am i missing something how do we set the lab up?
Helps a lot
Thanks

Hi there , at 10:32 i didn't understand what did you set in local domain name ?? What was that ?? And how we can set local domain name in our router like you have ?? Thnx
What level of knowledge in programming do you exactly need to be able to do network automation? Basic? Intermediate? Expert level?

Great video! What is the function of __pycache__ ?
Pycache is helps to reduce compilers times... especially for large coder files
Thanks for this post. I am wondering if you can help me. When i tried to access by chrome to the IP says: This site can’t be reached. refused to connect.
I have Bose SoundLink II, Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II, Sony WCH 700n, plus others. The Plantronics Backbeat Pro II are best sounding. They are heavy though.
Thank You . 감사합니다.
Thank you mate!
Thanks for this encouragement! I would like to think I’m fairly new to networking but then again...been in IT game for years lol. I am fortunate enough to be running several catalysts L3 switches with 15.9 IOS. I am designing L3 spine/leaf architecture as my lab with 5 leafs and 2 spine fortunate enough to have 10gig etherchannel uplinks between spine and leafs. One of the most repetitive thing was on-boarding out of the box each spine and leaf. Luckily. I was able to use python serial module to automate the entire on boarding process (setting up ssh, management vlan those two where the main ones). Then came the next actually on-boarding the spine or leaf into the fabric! I managed to use netMiko module but my code was so inefficient! Similar issue you had where you was ssh into each devices separately, send separate config for each router etc. I never used the zip function but you encouraged me to use serialisation YAML, so that I was able to feed the YML config into my Python code for loop. Learning YAML was the deal breaker! I created a single YAML file with all the devices (the entities and atttributes)(key:Value). Once I learned how to use nested for loops it was game time. All I needed to change was YML file e.g OSPF advertised networks and all else such as ECMP for each leaf etc. was the same! All leafs are trunking VLANs from ESXi host(that portion of the fabric is L2) Here’s my surprise the actual python code was like 10 lines. LoL it was just looping for each device and getting the config from YAML. You could use Json or even xml! I don’ t need to change the python code just the YAML config! My point is for efficiency you need to learn how to dump and load config a from a serialisation language(json, yml or xml) I will post all codes on GitHub, I’m considering writing a module specifically for python Cisco console serial automation for cli/iOS. iOS-xe has a awesome zero-touch on boarding functionality! Please may I remind everyone I am just a help desk guy. Studying for CCNA. Learned all this in about 3-5months
Too Good... Awesome.
Thanks for this post. I am trying to get my head around how I connect a device to the internet now from eve as I want to play with python and need to get updates to the linux box in eve. Any idea? The cloud option is what I use at home but I do not have a pool of addresses here.
Ive had SecureCRT for over 20 years and it is hands and feet down more robust and their support is highly responsible and professional. Forums are good place to find scripts too.
Great job man
how can I configure cisco device, I tried to connect with putty and it said "connection timeout"

Thank you for capturing this video. I faced an issue. I add a fortigate node and followed your instruction for activating adding a rule for telnet and it worked, and I could connect to node through telnet. BUT for GUI interface which I should connect through http, it is not working. would you please help how can I access to GUI interface of node?
Awesome and stay humble
Great work!
