Flying The Carbon Cub to Red Creek
zhlédnutí 417Před 2 lety
I’m a professional pilot, but flying back country strip in a taildragger is my true aviation passion. I’ve been slowly learning how to fly tail wheel airplanes with my Uncle for a few years now. We have been taking his Carbon Cub and exploring the backcountry in Arizona. We are just getting started :)

    Yes! I too rock a 12v Cummins with a pop up canopy. I like to sleep in a hammock. Had to get creative to make it work but man it's nice. Saves space too. I use the "bed" area as a storage. I am a substitute teacher and travel all over working when needed and exploring when not. I absolutely love this life. I have played with starting a CZcams channel but honestly, I just get carried away with having a great time and forget to set up the camera. Looking at getting a ParaMotor. Right now I play with a One Wheel and a mountain bike. Hitting Alaska this year and can't wait to see Canada!

    @SlowlyOverStones125 what’s the roof material? Is it solid or like a vinyl layer? Safe to secure a kayak on top?

    You guys's Set up is pretty dope, Simplistic yet very practical which is my style. Hiatus is Def. my top choice over a lot more expensive options which are Wedge Styles. Thank You for Sharing & Safe Travels!

    This looks like such a cozy set up! Have you had a chance to test it in some harsher conditions? Really curious how it holds up in snow, wind, rain, or even just a chilly night

    • @slowlyoverstones125

      We have been in harsh winters, multi-day rain storms, 55 mph winds, and Arizona summers. The Hiatus has been outstanding in all conditions. We have a fan for when its hot and a small buddy heater when its cold and thats all we need to be comfortable in the extremes.

    01:31 All glass and a stick. Huh. . Are the up-graded versions fly-by-wire? I am new with all this posh nincompoopery, so I have to ask: * Is that sort of behavior common with the 'Platinum Club' crowd? Would a select few opt for the 'Platinum Plus Club' for the exclusivity it offers?

  • @largemarge1603
    @largemarge1603 Před 2 lety

    02:31 We like the rear entry. 2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, I fabricated a rear entry. This rig is the culmination of a half-century of camping in lesser rigs. . With a rear entry, we like the sight-lines, the immediate sense of visual and visceral openness. . A side entry requires single-purpose steps or ladder... something else to store and secure, something else to go wrong, a disabling single-point-of-failure (in engineering terms, a 'SPOF', usually requiring a complete overhaul of the entire system to increase resiliency). A side entry also visually slams the sight-lines against the 'far' wall, inevitably shrinking the cubic space. This energetic shrinking worsens if the entry faces cabinets or the shower, and probably is the cause of too many undiagnosed situations of 'fight-er-flight'... . Another rear-entry benefit: In South America, some areas drive in the left lane with right-hand drive vehicles. A curb-side entry in a LHD area would put the entry in the traffic zone of a RHD country.

    03:16 Semi-retired welder-fabricator here. 2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, I fabricated a shelf-unit sixteen inches deep... a factory cabinet designed for a stand-still house would occupy too much cubic space. We acquired our sink/faucet from our local-owned family-operated home-improvement center. . Accordingly, your major-cool cabinet easily earns TheLargeMarge SealOfApproval.

    How is the fan and the LED lights connected to the power source??? It doesn't look like you could run wiring through the folding panels???

    • @slowlyoverstones125
      @slowlyoverstones125 Před 2 lety

      When the walls touch the top of the roof there are “squat switches connectors” that allow power to go to the lights and fan in the roof. If the walls are folded down, no power can be used in the roof.
