MissingRemote is a home for “smart” technology products and news. Historically our primary focus has been connected home, home theater, and networking. Like it, or not, the world is getting blanketed with computers and sensors (i.e. the bits that make things smart). So we've expanded to cover other "smart" devices as well.
Sofabaton X1S Universal Remote with Hub/App Control
Remote controls are an area of deep personal interest. There are so many things that need to get nailed on the hardware and software sides to create the perfect one. Sofabaton nailed the hardware with the X1S.

I wasn't able to find any reviews of the Ubiquiti UniFi Protect Ai Theta camera system that answered my questions around imaging performance. Specifically, how well it worked in low-light situations. So I picked one up, along with a Pro lens and the AI Audio speaker/microphone, to dig in and figure out how well it works; or in this case doesn't. community.ui.com/questions/Install-G4-Doorbell-Pr...

All LG Laptops Have Problems With Thunderbolt 4 Docking Stations

I decided that leveraging the Thunderbolt 4 port on my LG laptop to add multi-monitor, a keyboard, mouse, and a wired network connection was a great idea. Turns out that all LG laptops do not properly support Thunderbolt docking stations, and the network connection will not work. It's really disappointing that this issue exists. I mentioned in a post (www.missingremote.com/blog/2023/08/considering-home-energy-storage) that we started the process of building a passive house. Given the level of "smart" and gadgets going into the house I thought it might be interesting to document the steps involved. This is the "before" installment. Sorry, you seem to either have not watched the video or deeply misunderstand what's going on here. I am leveraging WSL on Windows to make an ISO without installing any dodgy 3rd party apps. You can use WSL to all sorts of things like this.
This was the ONLY correct explanation for my issue Thanks
We don't have a capacity problem. We do have free "nights" (10 hours). This panel seems to make sense, even for the price, in these ways: (1) Identifying when, where, and how much electricity is being used. (2) Immediately shifting of loads equiped to do so and confirmin the change. (3) Load shifting of non-smart devices. (4) Replacing an old, out-of-code panel. (5) Preparation for a solar + battery system. (6) Automatic software upgrades.
Great points. Thanks for sharing. 1) FWIW, you can do 1 for less than $200. Emporia Vue is a great option. 2/3) SPAN only "shifts" loads for the appliances it supports, it's just flipping the breaker for everything else. That isn't really "shifting" except in the most basic sense. There are cheaper solutions to this problem. 4+6) Retrofitting a cool piece of kit in is always fun :). I love the concept of SPAN, the price and lack of integration options makes it hard for me to buy in, personally. 5) We recently put in a couple hybrid inverters and 28kWh of battery (ESS) for ~$7,000 (after fed rebate) that. Something like that would have much better ROI for the "free nights" thing. If you're AC coupling, a panel might need to be replaced to install PV+ESS, but there are ways to do it without that (assuming your panel is up to code).
@@MissingRemote All good points and useful food for thought. Just to clarify, our plan is to shift loads by setting clocks (e.g. pool filter and cleaner) and smart switches (e.g. air purifiers). Circuit level load shifting would be a "last" resort. I didn't know that integrated devices existed, so I really appreciate your mentioning it.
Good timing on this review. I was tempted to finally buy an X1 on prime day this year and hadn't realized there's no IP control capability. Local integration with my home automation is a requirement I won't compromise on. I'd also run into the same issue with a segmented network as you mentioned.
can i do that in my 2024 Tucson hybrid SEL Convenience . Thank you.
Thank you sir, I can confirm it works on a 2021 stinger.

It is actually easier to make a camera that supports IR, because you need to add a special IR filter in order to make the dark colors more natural. I am wondering, if it is possible to remove that IR filter from these cameras...
TIL. I haven't tried taking the lens apart, maybe I should do that with the "standard" one and see what's inside :).
@@MissingRemote I did it right after writing the comment and I have bad news - it is glued together, does not come off even with the heat gun.
But it might be different on the PRO version, since it is much larger. I do not have any PROs available.
I can't tell you how many times I've thought or said "it blows my mind" in regards to the choices Ubiquiti makes on some of their products and systems. They make fantastic stuff that I absolutely love but they will also make it frustrate the hell out of you and their adoption process is definitely one of those frustrations.
Thank you so much!!! Your video save my time!
I've watched 10 videos on this product and nobody has said where the box is supposed to go. On the wall? So much for a small form factor. Inside the wall? You must cut a big hole and patch it? Every time you need access? Please tell me I'm missing something, because I like the small camera.
The body of the camera goes in the wall or ceiling. If you don't have easy access to that space, then yeah, you'd have to cut a hole every time you need to get to it. One approach is to install an access panel in reverse side of wall.
@MissingRemote Thanks. Poor design imo. Otherwise great looking product.
@@woodandgears2865 I wouldn't characterize it as "poor design". That hardware has to go somewhere. It doesn't need to get installed in the wall if you are willing to pass the camera wire all the way through the wall. It's just a trade-off to get the lens only(ish) install.
would this work with stuff like keyboards or controllers?
Have you come across a Propane Tank monitor that works with any home automation system? There are cell service based products but I live in an area that has poor cell service and need something that will work thru a home automation system. So I'm curious of your thoughts on how to solve this.

Hi Andrew if I click on forget instead of unblock, then will user be able to connect ?
Sorry, I don't know. The verbiage indicates that it would remove the record of the device, but it's not something that I have tested.

I wish to ask yesterday I went in my car and the screen is all off even if I start my car, do you think I can use this method with the stick?
No harm in trying.
Wow great
Im also looking at building a passive house, though probably not certified, and I’m surprised you need 400 amps. With the much smaller heating/cooling loads, and assuming really energy efficient appliances, I would thought 200 amps would be sufficient, even for an all electric house. Just starting to research, though.
It's certainly possible to build a highly efficient home on 200A (SPAN could make that easier), but in general EVERYTHING in a passive house is electric. It's easy to see how you get past 200A when you add up the induction cooktop that has a 50A circuit, have a couple 30A heat pumps, 40A for the oven, 30A for the ASHP water heater, a 48A EVSE, etc. Our numbers are harder because we're building an ADU (apartment above the garage) that will have its own ASHP, water heater, range, etc.
Does this apply to the kia forte?
Likely. Have a look for that little button on the dash.
It doesn't work Don't waste your time
Happy to try to figure out where you're struggling. This is fairly basic functionality on a Linux distro. It should work on any working instance.

I have two UCG ultras on Tmobile ISP two separate sites and very new site to site VPN. I tried this method and I got an error saving the network.
If you have two modern UI gateways (UCG/UDM/etc), it's MUCH easier to create the VPN via "Site Magic" in the unifi.ui.com portal.

Good!!! My question is that, by mistake i've blocked my own computer on a unifi Wifi, in which i'm the administrator. I unblocked it but still being not allowed to reconnect on a wifi. Can you help?
Unblocking it through the UI should remove the block. You should be able to log into the AP and look a the logs from another system as well.

I heard they just released the SPAN Panel 48 in Mar 2024 but it wont ship till Q4. I think I want to get it and I dont think we are going to have any issues with the 200A load.
Are you retrofitting or new build?
@@MissingRemote Retrofitting. We have a new HVAC system/heat pump going in tomorrow and two tesla's. We have solar and Tesla two powerwalls.
@@macmovieman1 If you don't mind, LMK how it turns out for you if you opt for a SPAN panel.
@@MissingRemote i’d be happy to update you and I’m definitely holding off for the 48 because I currently have a 32 panel and I’ve had to move six additional into a sub panel and I’d prefer to have it all in one panel and it will give me some room to grow.
