I love this version of clarity. Anyone know where could find a full version without the IV? Edit: found it! This video has the interview + all the songs on their own afterwards: czcams.com/video/Qei7vUFVi-8/video.html
I never saw this interview before, late but a great find. I wish we had more singers like him and he is absolutely right about timeless music tho, he is the proof.
they provide the space and money for artist to come and sing P!nk has done this Rihanna, Beyoncé, Demi Lovato ,Ciara it's basically just a strip down performance without an audience just the artist and a camera
His music has no balls. Airy, fluffy, catchy? Yes. Visceral? Not at all. Dangerous? Zero. It's a superficial soundtrack for a Starbucks generation. Plus he just never stops pontificating. His endless public introspection is mind-numbing.
the most genuine singer songwriter. honestly, there isn't anyone out there like him anymore. i just love everything he has to say about music in the end of this video. this is what all music should sound like. enough with this stupid pop crap. john mayer is so completey under appreciated in this music society. i can't wait until everyone starts to see him as a legend 20 to 40 yeas from now. i just love him..omg
John Mayer is not an ugly person, but he is a damn ugly musician. A fantastic and very talented guy, but he pulls the funniest faces! At least we can see that he genuinely feels the songs... :)
That's not even 10% of the pedals he owns. xD Watch the "In Repair" studio sessions. It's like Guitar Center when it comes to the amount of pedals he owns.
@@jordandangelo180 I'm so glad I'm not alone on this. I dont know what happened to this John. It seemed that during this time, he was really maturing. However, it seems like after Continuum was incredibly successful and it was time to make a new album, he started to change. He focused less on music and more on trivial/distracting things (sex, money, drugs, media) that were going to inevitably hurt him. Furthermore, I feel like you can see this from how the messages of his songs changed (Continuum vs Battle Studies and beyond) and I don't get it. Why would he stop making soul inspired music? This music touches the soul and he already explained how Pop doesnt really do that. Why wouldn't he just keep make blues music? Continuum, Try, and Where the Light is all fall in the best albums category because of the music. They had the most beautiful messages and best soulful music. This music is what he is the most known for. Why would he change? I think he had to have gone through some bad things....
@@itsamberelise853 Well, money changes people. Fame changes people. Add them together and you have a potential recipe for disaster. Enough money and fame can take the most innocent and wholesome, grounded in reality person and turn them into somebody they swore they would or could never become. I don’t think John is a bad guy at all but he’s definitely changed and all the fame and ego, there is no going back to this John here. I think that’s the reason why we haven’t heard anything like Room For Squares, Battle Studies or Continuum in a long time. I think for the first few albums, John was hyper focused on songwriting and making a name for himself as an artist and as a well respected guitarist as well. He achieved all of that in spades. So, where do you go from there? There aren’t many options. You can continue to go up and write in sprites hit songs, which seems to be very hard for even the best of artists or bands to do after a decade or so, or you can become a celebrity and use your celebrity to stay relevant by playing concerts of your hit songs or making appearances with other groups ex. Dead & Company....all great stuff but not the same as the hungry artist who is out there trying to prove himself. Certain people never lose that fire but they are rare. John still loves guitar gear and Dumble amps which is cool to me but I doubt the early John Mayer we are referring to was more interested in Dumbles and making $6,000.00 amp deals with PRS than he was with writing great songs, all on which same the same Martin acoustic guitar and Fender Strat or 2. I’m not saying he’s more into gear than music, I’m just saying he’s being trendy as opposed to settings trends because we all know if anyone was a trend setter in the songwriting and guitar world in the 2000’s, it was John Mayer. He made the TS-10 popular, made envelope filter tones popular, made guitar playing bigger than its been in decades. Everyone knows or tries to play Gravity or Slow Dancing.
I couldn't agree more with Chann3191. Surround yourself with legends in the music industry (like Steve and Pino) and it's easy to sound great using riffs borrowed from some of the masters. Mr. Mayer has done his homework and he's shared his talent in recreating his interpretation of their life's work. IMHO it takes more than listening to and copying styles, before saying how "I" did this. Sock-foot bedroom practicing when you're 18 doesn't entitle a person to talk about "Buddy, BB and Eric"
John please make more music similar to Battle Studies. On stage you said, "If you like this album, you will love the next one - it will be more of the same, I have so much material, it will be amazing." And then Born and Raised came out - it is not like Battle Studies - I still love your music - I am just not following deep in my heart and soul.
I really like it too, especially Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967, it´s such a chill record, you can just sit back and enjoy the whole record over and over again :D

Humble genius.
Why's explaining Heavier things in 2007?
LOVE how his brain works! 'Continuum' will always remain relevant, no matter which year/decade you're listening in. ♥
I never saw this interview before, late but a great find. I wish we had more singers like him and he is absolutely right about timeless music tho, he is the proof.
wheres that trio studio album!
It's coming out this/next year ^^ Took a while but yea
only think i dont agree with is the sweatpants and the ugly sneakers, ditch them john!
He did lol
LOL
He ended up getting everyone black suits...
they provide the space and money for artist to come and sing P!nk has done this Rihanna, Beyoncé, Demi Lovato ,Ciara it's basically just a strip down performance without an audience just the artist and a camera
John will be terribly disappointed to know how many people want to "turn off that Ray Charles" and listen to nonsense on the radio
love john, fuckkkk walmart slavery !!!!
"Shut up and play, is a really good bumper sticker for my...head."
i cant agree with you. John Mayer Trio is nasty. And i hate fluffy music. You gotta watch Mayer live. i'm not too fond of the studio stuff anyway
His music has no balls. Airy, fluffy, catchy? Yes. Visceral? Not at all. Dangerous? Zero. It's a superficial soundtrack for a Starbucks generation. Plus he just never stops pontificating. His endless public introspection is mind-numbing.
He said that in his TV show few years back. It's just John Mayer being sarcastic.
All of that is great, except John Mayer DOESN'T write his own songs. It is known that Richard Marx wrote most of his songs.
What? I'm sure you have no proves. It's well known that he writes or cowrites his songs.
I'd pay to see JM grilling on stage.
omg john you are perfect
the most genuine singer songwriter. honestly, there isn't anyone out there like him anymore. i just love everything he has to say about music in the end of this video. this is what all music should sound like. enough with this stupid pop crap. john mayer is so completey under appreciated in this music society. i can't wait until everyone starts to see him as a legend 20 to 40 yeas from now. i just love him..omg
Olivia Verhelle He is a legend now. He withstood the test of time.
produced by Walmart dumbass !!
Actually, it'd be nice to pay for music and a steak.
The song you're looking for is called "Clarity" From John's album called "Heavier Things". Hope this helped!
Exactly, I try as hard as I can to be as far as away from a Walmart as possible.
Such a humble man! <3
Hahaha the end!
John Mayer is not an ugly person, but he is a damn ugly musician. A fantastic and very talented guy, but he pulls the funniest faces! At least we can see that he genuinely feels the songs... :)
excuse me, but is that the Flash logo on his chest??
As cut-up clips, This was part of those videos that play over an over again on the tv's in wal-mart at one point...
That's not even 10% of the pedals he owns. xD Watch the "In Repair" studio sessions. It's like Guitar Center when it comes to the amount of pedals he owns.
It's the sponsor...it's the "red bull' events...the coca-cola...the pepsi...the warped tour of the VANS...
I really miss this John
knowzn yeah me too. What happened to this humble personality? He is definitely not like this anymore.

A guitarist can never have too many pedals :P
John Mayer inspires me.
ricky peterson on organ!
Same.. although partly because half the time I have no idea what he's talking about.. haha
amen
and that would be?
on his own live in L.A. is my favourite!
the gold strat.. it was black until john picked it up..
What the hell does walmart have to do with this?!!

I was thinking this exact same thing on my way home from work today...exactly.
However, I have a spiritual connection to JM's music, and I can't explain it - and that is the BEST part!

i wish the trio would do a studio album. Probably not gonna happen, his voice might be done.
John was right. This album still has the same effect as it did when it came out!
what does this have to do with walmart??
agree with you completely... Walt Grace would be my favorite too!
I really like it too, especially Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967, it´s such a chill record, you can just sit back and enjoy the whole record over and over again :D
