Vibralocity Tutorials | Organizing Your Sample Library
In this video, I go over a simple method of organizing a sample library that I use in my DAW (Ableton). The idea is to be able to quickly find and use any sample within my library for any project I'm working on. The method I use in this video is just one approach to organizing samples, and I encourage you to find your own!

Vibralocity Tutorials | Reworking a WIP

In this video, I cover a process I call "Reworking a WIP." The premise is- if I'm working on a track and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, I will save a copy of it and start reworking it. That means I will take the elements that seem to be working well and then take bits out that weren't fitting. I'll usually add a new instrument or two, change up the percussion, or write a new bassline. I ...

Playlist Organizing in Rekordbox
zhlédnutí 7KPřed rokem
In this video, I wanted to share the concepts behind how I organize my DJ playlists. I go over the different playlist types, as well as how I order tracks within each playlist. If you have your own tips or tricks, please share them in the comments. I'm also open to any questions or ideas you might have for future videos!
Thank you so much it was very helpful 😇
Thanks - to the point. But when I go to the main menu playlist, the ‘Renumber Track Order’ and other lists are greyed out. How do I resolve this?
I notice that this happens when you change what playlist you're looking at and don't click any of the tracks. To solve it- just click any of the tracks in the playlist so it's highlighted, then go to your menu and click 'Renumber Track Order.' Try that and see if it works!
@@vibralocitymusic I still get the entire "Playlist" options all greyed out too.
I figured it out. The lastest version is different. I right clicked on "BPM" and clicked on the " and clicked on "reorder track number" then do the same on the # column. Now I can redorder the tracks on 7.0.2
for some reason i cant drag and change the order in the playlist section, anything i can do??
Yes- first you will want to right click on the column headings and make sure 'Track Number' has a check mark next to it. Then, you will find that column (usually marked as '#' and click it once so that the songs are organized by track number. Then, you can drag the songs around to be in any order you choose. Let me know if that works!
@@vibralocitymusic thank you so much for responding and it worked!

Can you search for a playlist or folder? Like you named a folder "Must Play", but you can t seem to find it in your tree list on the left, you forgot where you put it. Can you search for folder "Must Play" ?
Usually the search is just used for tracks in your collection. If a playlist isn't in the tree list on the left, then it may have gotten deleted. All playlists should be there always.
How do you export a playlist in alphabetical order?
Hey there! So, when you have the playlist open in Rekordbox, you'll want to click the 'Track Title' column so that it arranges all the tracks in alphabetical order (or do this with the Artist Name if that's what you want). Then, you'll want to right click the column section and then left click the "#" or "Track Number" heading. This will make sure it shows up in the columns. Finally, click any of the tracks so it is highlighted, then go to your menu, click 'Playlist' then 'Renumber Track Order'. Then you can export! They should be in order if you follow all these steps.

but you are not creating a playlist. you already have them on the left side....
If you watch just about 30 seconds into the video, I show you how to create a new playlist.
Do you know why the “#” column doesn’t appear anywhere?
So usually what that means is that you have to activate it. If you right click anywhere in the column heading area (where it says Artist, Title, etc) you should see a list of all available columns. The "#" label should be the very top option I believe. Just left click on that label and it should appear in the column headings. Then you can left click the heading and drag it as far left as you'd like, to organize more effectively. Let me know if that works!
thanks a lot, wow i struggled with the renumbering

Hey mate. I'm in a bit of a fix. My music is all in order of key in my Rekordbox library, but when I export it to my usb, it changes the order. How can I rearrange my music according to key on my USB? Please let me know. 🙏 Would really appreciate it.
What's probably happening is that you need to click just one of the tracks in the playlist, then go up to the menu bar and click 'Playlist' and then 'Renumber Track Order.' That will change the order of tracks when they are exported. Let me know if that works!
Mate,I'm sorry 2 sound stupid but in my library how won't it let me change songs I have in library ie the order of the songs, can u help please
No need to apologize. The library, or collection as Rekordbox calls it, is not really meant to be organized. It just shows the songs in the order you imported them, I believe. You will want to create a Playlist and then click the "#" column heading, which will allow you to freely move the tracks in the Playlist. I am planning to make a video on set prep, which will include creating Playlists, in case you don't know how. It is pretty simple though- just look in the left hand menu section, hover over the 'Playlist' heading, then click the little + sign that appears. Then you just name the playlist and drag songs over from your flash drive. If you're wanting to import your entire library into that playlist, you totally can! Hope that helps :)
@vibralocitymusic brother it does and thank u for replying but iv done that as I watched your video 1st.its showing song is highlighted but I can't move songs about in my library.im properly making zero sense,im sorry brother

I cannot select renumber track order in rekordbox, do you know why?
I notice that this happens when you change what playlist you're looking at and don't click any of the tracks. To solve it- just click any of the tracks in the playlist so it's highlighted, then go to your menu and click 'Renumber Track Order.' Try that and see if it works!
Thanks sir! Im still finding out how i get them play after each other, probably something simple but still havent figured out.
When you say play after each other, do you mean autoplay through a playlist in Rekordbox? If so, you will want to just select 'Simple Player' which is in the dropdown menu where it says '2 Player'. That's it, when you hit play, the tracks will autoplay one after the other. There's a screenshot if you visit this site: www.deejayplaza.com/en/articles/rekordbox-continuous-play-tracks-playlist

Your view looks so different than mine.
Hmm, I wonder why. Using a Mac maybe?
I have a slight problem, usually i see the title first in my xdj-r1 screen and the bpm right next to it. Now i only see the title, why is that?
xdj-rx *
That is a setting you will control using Rekordbox. Go to 'File', then 'Preferences.' Click on the 'DJ System' tab. Then click on the 'Sort' tab. You can add any categories you want to be displayed by your controller into the 'Active' column. You can then change the order of those as well. Let me know if that works for you!
How to get those different colours on the structure
In Rekordbox, go to Preferences. Then go to the View tab. Then under Waveform, select RGB instead of blue. Red=bass, G= mids, B=highs

Hey there. If the # symbol isn't appear, you can right click anywhere in the column heading section and make sure that the symbol has a check mark next to it. Then you can left click that symbol when it is in the column headings and it should organize by track number! Hope that helps.
Is it possible to organize playlist by bpm and key at the same time in rekordbox?
There are certain workarounds for this, but Rekordbox has not given us the ability to do a 2 column sort. I would recommend organizing by BPM, renumber the track order, then click the top of the "#" column, then freely move tracks around to get the keys lined up within your various BPM ranges.

I don't care about bpm or genre . . . . I just simply wanna move the tracks around 🫤 Like where I want them . .

Great video. Is there any way to make an automix playlist but have rekordbox automatically remove the songs that I might have already played?
Thank you! Regarding your question- are you wanting the songs to be removed during a set? If so- Rekordbox will highlight tracks you've already played, as long as you are in the playlist that you loaded the song from. If you see the song in another playlist, it won't be highlighted. Or... are you wanting songs removed from the playlist each time you open Rekordbox?? Just wanting to clarify.
@@vibralocitymusic sorry for the confusion. When I use Djay algorithm I could automatically have it set to remove the songs from the library after I played them. So if I'm playing a gig at a friend's house and want to take a break. I will use automix while I'm not mixing but want to make sure it doesn't accidentally play some of the songs I already played.
@@anthonyg8435 Oh, I see. I don't use automix, so I don't actually know how you'd do that. It sounds like a setting that might be in Rekordbox, but I'm not sure. Sorry I can't be of more help on this!

Regarding exporting playlists to flashdrive. If you already have a playlist on your flashdrive named e.g. "House 1" and you have a playlist in Rekordbox named also "House 1" but with new tracks and then you use the sync manager to update the playlist on your flashdrive with the new tracks, will it erase and replace the playlist in the flashdrive with the playlist from Rekordbox or does it only add the new tracks to the playlist?
Good question! I like to think of Rekordbox as being a direct representation of what's on my flashdrive. That means, when I import songs to Rekordbox, I name the playlists the same, and have all the same songs for both the flashdrive and in Rekordbox. In your situation, if you added songs to a playlist called 'House 1' in Rekordbox, when you sync, it will create a playlist that's only accessible by Rekordbox compatible products (CDJs, etc) of that same name. That playlist will have your songs with the beatgrids, tempos, comments, and any organization that you used in the Rekordbox program. It will not affect the raw track files that are saved on your flashdrive. Again, that's why I like the playlists I create in Rekordbox to match exactly what I have saved on my flashdrive- so I always know where I have files backed up. Let me know if that answer makes sense or if you need a different explanation.
@@vibralocitymusic No I meant I have, in my USB, playlists that I exported from Rekordbox (not raw files) from an older computer. Now I have new computer that I've installed Rekordbox on and I've been getting new music. So in my playlists in Rekordbox, there are only new tracks. I want to update the playlists on the USB with this new music. If I use sync manager, will it erase all tracks from the USB-playlist that was created from the Rekordbox on the older computer, or will it simply add only the new? Hope it makes sense. Edit: Because up until now I've been manually dragging the new tracks from my Rekordbox playlists to the USB.. not very fun.
@@DJayDNA Ohhh, I understand now. So, I've had this issue, and the only way I've found that worked was to drag all my raw track files to a new flashdrive, then analyze all those in Rekordbox, then add new songs from there. Rekordbox is funny in that it only wants each flashdrive to be paired with one instance of Rekordbox (computer device). I have not found a workaround for this, unfortunately. Apparently you can use a program called Resilio sync, but I don't have any experience with that. You can also consider using Rekordbox cloud storage, which would solve the issue, but it is pretty spendy ($20/month I think)
@@vibralocitymusic Got it. Thank you for taking your time. I've set it up now that I create playlists in my "Collection" in Rekordbox and then I drag manually all the tracks in the playlist to the playlist on USB. Because I noticed that if I choose to "export playlist" it deletes all the tracks on the USB playlist that are not in the Rekordbox playlist. Whereas if I manually drag the tracks it at least asks me if I want to skip tracks that are already in the playlist (on the USB).
@@DJayDNA of course. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. Your process sounds a little tedious, but I'm glad you've found something that works.

So glad it was helpful!
Very interesting view. I also try and adopt the mentality that in djing the heavy work is before you get behind the decks. I have a similar approach with tagging my music. The most important thing that you said is that you can always update the tagging based on your experience or the situation that you’re playing in. Thanks for the info 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for your input! I appreciate you chiming in!
I like how you think. Thanks for the nice show n tell. I'd like to learn more about setting up playlist and keeping each song in the same as I originally added them. Glad it's helpful! Are you saying you'd like a different tutorial video to cover importing songs into playlists? Or would you like a one-on-one chat? Let me know!
@@vibralocitymusic Can you do a video about how to add songs songs in a certain order to a playlist that will remain in the same order?
@@djstretchtone9851 certainly! I'll try and get that done today :)
@@djstretchtone9851 I finished the video! I expanded on the topic just a little bit, but I definitely address your question at around the 4:10 mark. Here's the link: czcams.com/video/TSalINZ5kM8/video.html Let me know if that helps!
My first thought is that this method use a lot of playlists. On a CDJ that means more scrolling hance requiring more time to find the track you want, but if it works for you I suppose that's what matters. I noticed some similarities to how you organize your tracks for points in a set to how I do it. I have actually tried several ways to find out what works better for me personally but one say is [Folder] called 'Set Point' (super basic) playlsits in the folder: 1. Openers 1/4 1/2 3/4 Closing Another Method I tried was [Folder] called ' Atmosphere' playlists in the folder: Light Warmers Openers Openers Downtempo After First Track Builders Midset Moving Along Closing Obviously I am creating these lists based on the tracks in my collection and also as an attempt to keep it simple. I can't really find something that works for me exactly how I want it however. I just wish that Tag lists work better and searches workd better in CDJ functions. The thought occured to me that I could use your method that could expand from my current Intelligent playlists: IE: [Folder] Deep House playlist in the foder: Openers Light Warmres Midset etc...
Thanks for the thoughtful response! I appreciate your feedback. My method does have a lot of playlists, but generally for a given event, I will only be searching through a limited number of them to find the tracks I want. I'm glad that this method got you adjusting your playlists- I really wanted it to be a starting point for folks to create a system that works for them! Let me know if there are other topics you'd want me to cover.
