Where to Drill PFE Test Holes
When we install a radon mitigation system, we want to ensure that the system creates suction under the entire home. Measuring that suction below the slab is called pressure field extension. We drill small holes throughout the home's slab that allow us to measure the suction with a pressure gauge called a micomanometer. We want these test holes to be where we expect the suction to be the weakest.

    Is this a better way of going vs. the system attaching to the sump pump? Does it damage the foundation at all?

    • @AmericanRadonMitigation
      @AmericanRadonMitigation Před 6 dny

      We typically don't draw through the sump cover. Instead, we locate the drain tile with a sewer camera, core through the concrete floor, and tap into the drain tile system’s perforated piping below the slab. It does not damage the foundation. The concrete floors here in Minnesota are nonstructural, but that might not be the case in other areas. For instance, some homes have post-tension cables that run through the slab. Hitting one of those cables can cause it to violently rip out of the slab, which could be deadly-or so I'm told anyway.

Do I need to put a reinforcing mesh since I definitely plan to add fiber fibers and sika additive to the mower? Second question. I would split the floor and into one part of the garage. Can I spread the mushrooms with the same system, and what thickness of concrete should I use? Thanks in advance

      Thanks. Water is too messy for indoor use, in my opinion. We usually use a rotary hammer when the floor is thick enough not to crumble to pieces like this one. I've had this core bit for years and have used it about 20 times. I'm good with replacing it more often if it means less mess and time spent cleaning it up.

His Safety Siren was still reading 26 after mitigation. Either his monitor was bad, or he never reset it after mitigation.

    • @AmericanRadonMitigation
      @AmericanRadonMitigation Před měsícem

      I don’t want to deal with the mess of water you often have with a core drill. It takes less than 5 minutes when using a rotary hammer to go through 4 inches of concrete. I recently purchased a handheld core drill and hardly ever use it. I bought it to core through the foundation from outside, where getting water on the ground and wall isn’t a big deal. It also doesn’t blow out when coring through block like a rotary hammer drill. Whatever you get, get one with a good clutch to avoid injury when it binds.

    @AmericanRadonMitigation This noise suppressor seems to work just like a car muffler, muffling the sound exiting the pipe. My problem is that the external fan itself makes a low droning noise that is coming directly into the adjacent living room, and I also hear it in the upstairs bedroom. So it seems my solution involves encasing the fan in some sort of noise reducing box. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @AmericanRadonMitigation
      @AmericanRadonMitigation Před měsícem

      It sounds like the piping above or below the fan is making direct contact with your home’s framing, allowing the vibration of the fan to transfer to the lumber, which can cause the noise you speak of. We often see this with high-suction fans and when the piping below the fan is in direct contact with the rim joist. If that's the case, you may try switching to a smaller fan or enlarging the hole through the rim joist so the piping doesn't touch it. You can fill the gap with backer rod, expanding foam, or rubber. If that's not the case, you can also try loosening the clamp directly above the fan.
