    I own this watch (blue dial). It’s gorgeous and I love it. The strap is crap though and the wrong colour. I changed it for a lighter tan rustic leather strap and the difference is significant.

    A splendid review, thanks. I've the 42mm version of this watch and I love it. Like you, I love field watches. This Hamilton ticks all of the boxes, that make it an awesome field watch. I've stuck mine on a French Marine Nationale strap. The calves nubuck leather strap is far too nice for everyday wear. This is a great watch. The H-10 movement is not just a workhorse. It's tough and super accurate. This Hamilton field watch is simple, hardwearing and it looks great.

    Thanks for a great review, great pictures and excellent description, noting your preferences as such. I really like this watch in the pictures but I didn’t get to hold it until today at the local A.D. Now I’m in love! The green is just perfect, especially with the orange markers. I’d go with a 38 mm on my 17 cm wrist, it was very much better. But it’s definitely moved up a couple of notches on my wish list.

  • @Cotivity

    I think we aren't looking at these the correct way. Even by their own admission, these are supposed to be "playful". Modern colors on the dial, and not so many "enthusiast" details are coming from all the brands, over the next year or two. Why? to try and get younger folks interested in watches in general.

    • @BridgeAndBalance
      @BridgeAndBalance Před rokem

      I personally love colorful dials, so in the respect I completely agree with you that the playful colors are nice. However I still feel that for >$4k USD these dials fall into the disappointing category for me. I personally had much higher expectations at this price point.

      @@BridgeAndBalance Framed like that, then yes I agree. The dials are underwhelming for the price. I was only speaking of the "youth" angle everyone is on currently...

  • @justthisguyyouknow42

    The dial doesn't bother me at all personally. I'm hoping to see it in person in the next week or two at the AD, but from what I've seen online they look great. The thing that I didn't know until this video (after watching dozens recently) is the lack of a reverser on the auto winder. Really?!? What a weird omission for such a premium movement! Ugh. Oh and of course micro-adjustments should be present at this price point.

    While it's certainly true that many people prefer not having a date window, it's equally true that many, like myself, prefer having a date function on their watch. I wish Hamilton offered both options here. My first mechanical watch was also a Khaki. After 10 years it's still beloved; long lugs, no AR, and date window all being part of the charm.

    • @BridgeAndBalance
      @BridgeAndBalance Před 2 lety

      I tend to be ok with a date window generally. They certainly are not "on trend" in the community right now and I get their point. Often it feels like the date window is "complication for complication sake" and can tend to detract from the dial a bit. The Khaki Field, as a tool watch does make more sense in having a date window.

    • @rabonour
      @rabonour Před 2 lety

      @@BridgeAndBalance I personally find date windows to be very functional (as opposed to a lot of other complications, which I would be more likely to call "complication for complication sake.") I agree that it would be nice to have both options.

    • @BridgeAndBalance
      @BridgeAndBalance Před 2 lety

      I can somewhat agree with this assessment, especially when you're taking about a field watch. I think date windows are a bit absurd when they are slapped on pieces that are designed with brilliant dials. The most popular example of this I think is the Grand Seiko Snowflake. It doesn't need that date window and I think it detracts from the watch itself. I don't need utilitarian function when I'm wearing the Snowflake, I'm wearing it because it's got a stunning dial.

  • @peterlorimer3552
    @peterlorimer3552 Před 2 lety

    Whilst I love the look of the watch, especially with that bracelet. I feel that Oris have cheaped out when it comes to the dial. I totally agree with you that for this price they should have done much more, at least applied markers. The fact that there is no micro adjust at this price ( over three grand here in the UK) is a definite bar to purchase for me anyway. Looking at it and comparing it with other watches currently on the market ( longines spirit collection etc) the oris needs to be around half the price that they're asking. There was no mention in the video of the problem Oris had with their new movement either being all but impossible to set correctly owing to the hands jerking back out of sync on adjustment, so I'm assuming they've sorted that problem out... Anyway at over £3000 I think I'll give this one a miss. See if I can snag one of the equally pretty, although difficult to obtain Sinn brightly coloured dial watch to scratch the itch, so to speak... Many thanks for the video though. Toodle Pip! Lol.

    • @BridgeAndBalance
      @BridgeAndBalance Před 2 lety

      Ah the Sinn 556i! I have a red dial one coming in whenever they release it and I planned to do a direct comparison with this watch as well. As far as the "setting the time" problem with the Calibre 400...it's still a thing, and I think it's a permanent thing because they have a section in the manual for the Calibre 400 dedicated to ways to avoid it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to get into it in the video but it's definitely a problem still

      @BridgeAndBalance Před 2 lety

      Everyone has different tastes :) I'm a huge fan of this, but I'm not a huge fan of watch snobbery, so maybe you won't enjoy my videos very much. I generally enjoy "dull" titanium more than super shiny stainless or precious metal, it fits my personality well and is very understated. Lume is actually very adequate here and the reworked lugs make this incredibly wearable especially compared to the 2020 release. Maybe this watch isn't for you and that's okay, no need to put others down for appreciating it though. Thanks for commenting with your opinion, what watches do you enjoy?

    • @TypeSly
      @TypeSly Před 2 lety

      @@BridgeAndBalance I apologize, I didn't mean to troll you... just the watch. I just find the Khaki to be extremely overrated, therefor overpriced. That AR coating (or lack there of) makes the watch so illegible, that it defeats the purpose of being a field watch. Those crazy long lugs make leather straps unwearable, unless you like the big gaps. I'd take a Glycine Combat or even a Seiko Alpinist anyday over the khaki for this price range. At least the have some personality and decent finishing, but that's is just my opinion.

    • @BridgeAndBalance
      @BridgeAndBalance Před 2 lety

      Thanks for replying! Your gripes about the AR and lugs are legitimate. Although if you saw my in-depth review where I look at this watch a bit closer, I mention the reworked lugs and I think the included strap avoids the big gap of previous versions. The Alpinist is a great watch but I struggle dropping >1k for a watch that retailed for $450. No problem disliking the khaki at all, no watch will please everyone, maybe I'll try to find a reasonably priced Alpinist for review soon.

    The word “ Titanium “ engraved on the left side of the watch is cheesy and totally unnecessary. Hamilton is also no longer a US brand but part of the Swatch group ; so a big Swiss Corporate entity .The double pin buckle bracelet is also not to my taste , in my opinion “ less is more” so just a regular pin buckle would be better. The generic and basic ETA movement , lack of lume and AR coating also are negatives. For just a little more I would buy a Damasko ; Swiss movement adjusted and regulated by Damasko, German engineering and much better quality components / specs. Nice review though .

    • @BridgeAndBalance
      @BridgeAndBalance Před 2 lety

      I totally agree about the titanium engraving and I'm so glad this watch removed it. In my opinion, joining Swatch in 1974 was the best thing that could have happened to Hamilton, as without Swatch, Hamilton wouldn't exist today. To me, being a Swiss brand doesn't tarnish their heritage or anything and I still love the brand and history. As far as the H-10 just being a generic and basic"eta movement I'm just going to have to disagree a bit :). While the H-10 is certainly unassuming and a bit of a workhorse for Hamilton, you have to look at it's feature set and price point. To get an in-house Swiss made and regulated ETA movement with 80 hours power reserve for WELL under 1000 USD is a minor miracle. When you are considering "value for money" in Swiss watches I don't think there is a better option than Hamilton... Damasko certainly makes nice pieces as well and I should try to get my hands on one to do a review. Thanks so much for the comment! It means a whole lot to me.

    • @theoverlord1925
      @theoverlord1925 Před 2 lety

      Yes the brands history is still there that’s true and it lives on even if under a different “ roof” so to speak . I totally agree on it being an awesome “ bang per buck “ piece . I am not 100 % sure but I believe the regulation on the Hamilton is done by laser while on the Damasko it is done by the watchmaker and his/ her tools . Once the piece has been laser regulated it’s permanent as such while on the manual regulation it can be readjusted / re regulated many times as needed throughout the years, although I don’t think it makes a big difference . One of my Damasko favourites is the DA 42 but their chronographs like the DC66 are also nice . I hope you find one and do a review they are also great “ bang per buck “ . I used to own a Hamilton I gave it to one of my staff when leaving my posting in Brazil . He loved it ; gave his G -Shock to his son and wore the Hamilton with pride the next day . He is still probably wearing it now ….

    That's not kaki ( real kaki has zero green, and is close to beige, being a very light brown, made also from orange white and black but more saturated then beige. Kaki is the color of desert, earth and sand, and the name comes directly from hindi and somalese. Was used for indian army uniforms in the british army, and from 1890 was also used by british army in Somalia coz' having .45 repeting rifles and revolvers was not enough agains spears when wearing red cots... The watch color is not even olive - army green, but more like a semi-light shade of prusian blue, that is a greysh cyan or greysh turquoise, greysh Paris blue, blue-greysh smaragd green, and can be made from blue and green, greyed with white and black or by using a complementary color like red for green.

    Great review, thanks! I've eye-balled the Hamilton Khaki Field watch for several years now and have never been able to quite pull the trigger, for one reason or another. This one is a nice offering, especially compared to the last version... for one thing as you pointed out, the word "Titanium" written on the side of the case looks awful. Also, the dial was a mess with the date window chopping off the 3:00 marker and then the military time numeral "15" pushed inward and out of line with the rest. It disrupts the flow of the dial (to my eyes anyway). This new design is much cleaner and I love that it has no date. It's quite beautiful but I don't understand why the watch doesn't have a screwdown crown, especially for the price! That is a deal-breaker for me, personally. I ended up checking the "field watch box" in my collection with an Orient Star Sports Outdoor. Imho,it's the perfect size at 41mm, Made in Japan, 50hr power reserve with indicator, Sapphire Crystal, display caseback, great lume, 100m water resistance, and screw-down crown. They are about half the price (on the grey market) of the Hamilton khaki field. Put it on a nato and it's damn near perfect! It's given me rock solid performance (about +5 a day) for a couple of years now and I've worn it under some pretty harsh conditions.

      Thanks for the comment! That orient is a really sharp looking watch, I'm glad you've had such great luck with it!

      @Thomas Wright It's just a matter of personal preference. I feel like more effort went into the manufacturing process when a watch has a screw down crown. I don't doubt that the one reviewed has 100m water resistance; but given a choice at the same price point, I'll more than likely pick the watch that has one. The advanced gaskets aren't going to matter too much if the crown, for some reason, gets dislodged while the watch is submerged. There are other reasons that have prevented me from buying one of the Khaki Field Automatics... bad lume, no AR coating on the Sapphire, and generally a super long lug width. It's not so pronounced on this model. This is a nice piece but I wish they'd lose the Invicta-like "titanium" writing on the side of the case. All that being said, I still would like to add a Hamilton to my collection but just haven't found one that really grabs me yet.

    Thank you for the nice review! It's the first one so far for this model I think👍 It's a bit shame for lack of AR coating. Does it reflect a lot? I had khaki king once but its beautiful dial was a bit hidden because of the reflections. Anyway, this khaki field looks absolutely gorgeous.

      I haven't noticed the reflections being too unbearable. Here and there yes, but overall I dont think it's too bad.

    Is the sapphire AR coated? Thanks for the Lume shot! I would love to see it in pitch black.

      Hamilton does not generally add AR on their Khaki Field models and it's definitely a gripe. This is no exception as it lacks AR coating as well
