Ford Transit Custom Camper Van conversion
Welcome to our U-Shape furniture for the Ford Transit Custom
Join us as we talk through the conversion on this panel van to camper van.
We’ve added our spacious side pod/u-Shape furniture which gives the greatest flexibility and biggest bed. Social space is achieved by natural seating. By sitting opposite each other rather than side by side on a cramped rock and roll style bed.
The seats easily change into the bed and back again in no time and lots of storage space in under the pods.
The main pod features a large pull out kitchen drawer which can house a twin grill, again lots of storage and weight bearing drawer runners of 200kgs mean you’ll never overload this drawer.
At the opposite end a porta potti can be concealed in another load bearing drawer, this one 140kgs. The porta potti is easily accessible night or day no matter configuration the furniture is in.
A large cupboard behind the driver is designed to fit a 50 size fridge and give plenty of storage around it via drawers above and a large cupboard next to the fridge.
Outside the van.
This particular van features a Skyline poptop roofs with a scenic style canvas.
Aerodynamic awning rail and privacy tint glass.
Wolfrace 20” alloys with load rated tyres and a custom grille finish the look and distinguish this from a normal work van.

Day van? That’s my perfect camper set up. Love it. I love the layout and simplicity. ❤
@@juliealderson8187 thanks!! We only really call it a day van as it has no fridge or cooker, you’re right though it is a lovely camper set up.
Totally agree re the layout. I am coberting a transit 350. Loke you. Im going for the U shape back end whoch wi comvert when required. Into the bed. I never did get the bed at the back with a garage. Doesnt make sense. At all. 😊
This is now my favourite plan for a T6, u shape lounge. Love the buddy box because it comes out to get my bike in . Brilliant. I will be coming to speak to you guys once I find a decent van with low miles. Cheers. 🏆👍
It’s absolutely perfect for taking the bike inside the van keeping it out sight!
Much better yes. Good job 👍🏆
I agree with the needlessly aggressive campervans! It looks so ridiculous 😂 Nice van!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Is this a SWB or LWB?
SWB.
When folded it fits in the pod so not sure why you’d want to put it anywhere else?
My friend, could you possibly provide the dimensions of the chair when folded? Thank you
Another great camper and excellent fit and finish and colour combernsion
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Ooou , smoooth Sir 👍😉
Wet belt comes to mind!
I much prefer the U shape setup. Currently looking around and found your channel 👍
Looks great! Does it have leisure batteries/inverter/etc? If so where have you located them on this example? Also, how long is the bed please?
Thanks. Yes it has a leisure batter under drivers seat, next to the main battery. It also has mains power via hook up. As the owners don’t intend being ‘off grid’ much no inverter was necessary but you could easily fit one in the main cupboard to give you 240v. The bed is 1720mm but with its spacing gives about 1800mm of useable space.
Hi pal. I came to you by a similar issue. My van isn't pulling very well. Warning lamp comes on at 2000 revs. Any ideas. Thanks
Hi. You need to get it plugged in to diagnostic really. Could be a boost issue.
@@DarrenRC76 cheers. On a service he did in a garage it came back various diagnostic teuble codes. It's been way for a long time . Not sure if something is blocked. Thanks for you quick reply 👍
Could be one of a couple of things. Boost related. Things to check, I would start with the following. Check what a scan of the ecu says. If it’s low boost pressure it could be a leak from somewhere. The most common are the vacuum lines, boost pipes and a split intercooler. Really carefully check all the boost pipes, the joints are prone to either coming apart or leaking, they must be seated correctly or they’ll leak which will give poor performance and economy. If it’s overboost on the ecu scan it could be the turbo. Turbo issues are common but generally they give overboost as the vanes stick and can’t change position.
@@dcdtransporters thanks for that. Can't believe what just happened. So the guy who I got the van off knew there was warning codes to the ECU-turbo and didn't tell me. And it was constantly in limp mode. I bought it anyway because I don't know anything about machanics. A post popped up about the turbo boot control sensor and how to give it an air test and I spotted a really small pipe not connected so I popped it back in and boom. Turbo back on and no warning lights and limp mode. Two garages I've been to and not been able to fix. Thought I was going to have to by a turbo 👍
@@dcdtransporters thanks for that 👍
Brilliant review, response and input from viewers 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Just picked up a 2003 2.5 with twin sliding doors and a factory sun roof… engine wise it pulls very well, starts instantly and sounds sweet. However it’s covered in oil on the top looks like sloppy oil changed but it has a split in the EGR pipe and is covered in black soot everywhere… I was considering removing the EGR, but I’m not entirely convinced that’s a good move. Any advice opinions are very welcome 🤗
Thank you very much for that nice vidéo ;-) On some other videos, some people isolates the doors not just the external panel but in 3 differents layers. Do you think that it is important or your way is enought ?
On the front doors you could add some close foam on top of the sound deadening pads but that’s it. You can’t add too much as the window mechanism will get caught up and potentially jam. The rest of the van panels would indeed benefit from the three stage insulation but you need to be careful around the lock mechanisms and catches.
@@dcdtransporters I will try to do that operation on my T6.1. Hope it will not be to difficult to dismount the electrical window area from the door... Maybe I can find some information about it !
Correct oil is a must 0-30W 506.01 spec, Westway or millers only do it now though and its hard to off the shelf as its an old engine now. Do not put the 5-30w C3 or similar oil in it, All motor factors say its the modern oil but are wrong, pre DPF 2.5 axd engines are low sap grade to protect the soft camshaft and gears.
Really like this, how much for the bed and kitchen pod please?
Get in touch via email and we can go through some options.
nice that , different . you can still put a camp cooker on the worktop if needed. 👍
Definitely! We use one of the small camping stoves if we’re making a cuppa inside.
I like this. Is that build out of 18mm ply
15mm birch ply
Great layout, just as I'm doing mine, fab to see it similar ahead of my completion. Looks nice and totally agree with the big van made small by the fixed rear bed washroom layout. This one so much better IMO
where do you get the door seals from? Thank you
Transporter HQ, travelin lite etc. lots of places stock them.
Is it crash tested?
Yes. M1 crash tested and TUV approved.
I have no need for a van or a commercial vehicle of any kind. Yet, here I am…😐
Very clean van that. 06 2.5 axd 6spd manual. 267k. Needs tlc but its good.

Well done to the team on converting a Van worthy of the front cover of VWT, it shows the quality work you are putting into them. Good luck for future business and with the CZcams channel.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video as always and what a story! I had so much fun filming this with you mate - onwards and upwards!
What a van! Still looks fresh to this day. Enjoy it and you’re taking great care of it! I’m really happy it’s gone to an owner who uses it the way I intended. Part time show van, full time holiday machine 😎
First comment I’m currently building my van after 8 months I’ve done the windows built the engine and fully insulated and carpet lined the back metal work I ply lined the rear and carpet lined it. I then insulated the floor and made a plywood floor and fitted a 4mm rubber floor and then fitted 5 rear seats. I got the bodywork next a facelift and paint it 2tone like the first t5.1 I ever noticed. I love my van it’s an old 2006 2.5 130 with 174k that I bought cheep but it’s not stayed that way after rebuilding the engine my self and all the work my self I have failed in love with it and it’s mine and paid
Can you comment on who you use to insure this van, as a lot of insurers jack the premium when you do mods. Is there a good insurance company that is mod friendly? (In the UK)
Very good question. We have a fleet/trade policy so very different to normal private insurance. Previously we’ve used the likes of Adrian flux, JK insurance, A-Plan, Herts insurance consults. And a few others. I forget! Best is to be honest with what you’ve done and ring them direct. The specialist insurance companies seem to be better than the big ones such as aviva, direct line etc. when dealing with modifications. Adrian Flux has been around for years and I’ve always had good service from them. Keep in mind I have never claimed from any of these companies mentioned so I don’t know what they’d be like if the worst was to happen. Best of luck.
Lovely van, im looking for a similar table leg. Could you tell me where can i find this one?
Have a look on Amazon. They have a few options.👍🏻
I need to redo my headliner but wondering how to remove it. Do you have a video on that?
We don’t but I’m sure you’ll find one on CZcams. It’s pretty easy, just mind the plastics when it’s cold, they like to snap if you’re not careful.
Only just get round to ordering these after watching your upload12 months ago, just waiting on collection date, please can you advise on fitting the oak window panel, is this attached to the units before placing them in the van or to the van before placing the units in? just trying to get my head round this without seeing any fixings, thank you for any advice given. Btw great uploads of your conversions.
Hi and thanks for the positive comments. We’d recommend fitting the splash back before the furniture is fully installed. You ideally want the splash to sit on the worktop and tuck behind the wardrobe unit. The top cabinet will help keep it in place but some battons behind the splash back will be needed to level it up and so you can bond it in place. Good luck with your build.
Just FYI, this swivel raises the double seat by approx 51mm
Some very useful reminders there👍 Enjoyed the watch👍
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it
Your videos are so useful. Watched them all now. Thanks for spending the time to record.
@@SGreen679thank you 🙏🏻
I had the exact same problem with mine. Cured it by cleaning intake and throttle body and adding a german oil catch can from flash lube. No more problems
If you do away with the kitchen units completely you can get a full width bed in?
