Quilt Inspired Pysanky Rushnyk Pattern
In this video I demonstrate how to draw a rushnyk pattern on an egg. This is a really great and highly adaptable division. In this video I use quilt inspired elements, that are optional, but super fun and easy.
The dyes and kistka I used are from Ukrainian Gift Shop www.ukrainiangiftshop.com and the wax is from Ukrainian Eggcessories www.ukrainianeggcessories.com

I didnt understand the solution..please explain
@@tsujaya4784 I couldn't get the dye out of the carpet, so I just covered it with a rug.
this is gorgeous! it's so cool to see your creativity in making a pysanky from a quilt pattern. i love it!
Thank you! I've really enjoyed adapting the quilt patterns. It's been challenging, but fun! Thanks for watching!

haven’t heard of the freezer method. is this a specific method bc it’s a goose? (haven’t been able to find a goose egg myself)
I use the freezer method sometimes when the egg is having trouble taking dye, this often helps achieve better results. Also, when I etch it does sometimes create issues and the freezer keeps the dye from seeping into the inside. I use this method on all types of eggs, not necessarily goose.
I have bought goose eggs from "Eggshells to Dye For". Her inventory varies, but I've received very nice goose eggs from them.
The colours are gorgeous, your line work is perfection. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much!
Thank you, I was struggling with curly lines. ❤

May I ask what is the brand of the kistka you’re using?

ty for sharing so opening. that all of us have challenges and struggles. and we are not alone in this journey.
@brandibarta9322 thank you!
I love this inspiration source. Often, when doing my own pattern I am not sure of the color combo to go with. Since wax covers the previous color, and color juxtaposition changes perceived color, I'm hesitant of the direction I want. The quilt templates seem ideal to see what you will get. Thank you for all the demos you do that offer such helpful tips. You are truly a blessing.

Crystal Potthoff, I love this! Can we be friends?
I've seen jewelry from the eggshells were it looks like a bezel is used (like the hearts). If a bezel is used, how do you get the curve of the shell flat enough for the piece?
I tried cutting out a heart shape to put in a bezel and it just didn't work. For my mosaic pieces that are in bezels, I press them down - they actually break - so that it's flat and the resin will cover it. I suppose if someone was able to cut the shape to fill the bezel, the would need to fill the back of the eggshell with resin, so it's then flat and can be attached to the bezel. But again, I didn't have any success in cutting out the heart shape, that's why I do the mosaic.
@@prayerfularts - gotcha, that makes sense. And I could tell some pieces were mosaics with other artists but yours looked complete so I wasn't sure. And you're right about then having to fill it in to secure it. Thank you!
So pretty! ❤
Thank you!
How long do you store your dye/water mix after you've used it for dipping your eggs? I'm new to this art and wondered if you can store it for a long time in a jar or do you have to mix new every time? Thanks!
Thanks for asking. My dyes at home usually last a couple years - sometimes the yellow or black won't last as long because I use these two a lot. I keep mine in a cabinet in my studio where they avoid extremes in temperature. I also keep them from direct sunlight. I always use distilled water, this helps prevent mold. So the longevity of the dyes is more a function of how many eggs are put in the dye, rather than when the dyes were made. Long answer - but I hope this helps.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Your work is spectacular! I am inspired by your calm determination to work through challenges.

Thank you for watching. I hope to continue to inspire people for a long time. Thank you for your question. If you are using a candle heated kistka, it takes practice to get the right temperature so the wax flows evenly. If it's too hot, the wax will smear and spread. If it's not hot enough, then it could fall off when the egg is in the dye. Other suggestions are to be sure you use pure beeswax. It melts more evenly than other types of wax. Be sure your egg is dry and room temperature, too cold or wet, and wax will not stick. Keep a practice egg handy and test the kistka on it before using the kistka on your good egg. A practice egg has bumps or imperfections that you would not normally use but are great for practicing.
Great idea to reuse the paper towels. I’ll be doing that and limiting the waste.
I can't believe you are going to be able to cut out the dedigns without cracking the design. Good job!
It is always a challenge - sometimes it goes better than others!
Thanks for your efforts, Very Great and nice.🙏🏼🙏🏼👌👌🌹🌹

Very Very Wonderful Octagon , Thanks for sharing.👍👍👏👏🌹🌹
Thank you and thanks for watching!!
Would love to see how you do those ornate vertical "stripes" and draw symmetrical crosses too.
Great idea! I'll add that to my list of upcoming videos! There is a far amount of measuring and practice, practice, practice.
if you could also possibly include ‘practical’ ways to achieve these results if you do not have a stencil??? plz? 😇🙏🫶
Thank you for the suggestion! I will do that! I know some people use quilling tape, I will do a demonstration on that as soon as I can.
I can't believe this channel popped up on YoutTube. My sisters and I made Pysnky with my Ukrainian grandmother and mother, then on our own throughout adulthood. I still have supplies & equipment I haven't touched in decades. This is a real inspiration to revisit my creative talent to show others what they missed out on, and recall fonder memories of my heritage.
I'm so glad you found my channel! I hope you are inspired to take up this art again and share your memories with others!

Very cool art. Where in the world has this form of artwork come from?
The style I do is primarily Ukrainian, but sometimes I use contemporary colors.
You recommended the Endless Egging book and it’s truly a great source for beginners. The divisions explained and meticulously depicted and the many, many, many designs sampled. Did I say many? Thousands with spots to add your own. Thank you for the recommendation!
