BARCELONA Controversial Culture Shocks - Is Spanish rude?
As promised, here is part two of things that shocked me when I moved to Barcelona as and Australian who has previously lived in two Spanish towns in Andalusia and Cantabria.
In this vide I talk about some of the following topics:
- How Spanish does Barcelona actually feel?
- The situation with the police in Catalunya
- The informal Economy
- More language issues you can have in Spain
- How people treat foreigners
- Homelessness
- Fashion
- Diversity

In the north there is no flamenco, no toros, no olé, and no many things you can find in the south. Its a very different culture. The day this girl discovers that in the north west the traditional music is based on bagpipes, probably his head will explode.

I am Spanish, and I have a little comment. About the free water, if you come into a bar and order a "vaso de agua" (glass of water) instead of a "botella de agua" (bottled water), they have to, by law, give for free a glass of tap water which can be drank perfectly, at least in Madrid and the big cities. Depending on the place, probably they will even serve you a big glass with ice cubes

A gentle land, that's the literal translation of one of the many Galician legends: the "Meigas". The Celts came by sea (why cross the Pyrenees?), and with them they brought strange and obscure traditions, contributing to this corner of the peninsula becoming a magical place. The witches, whose existence was rarely admitted, by virtue of the synod issued from Santiago, served to undo the wickedness of the Meigas against men. They weren't sweet at all, but I don't believe in witches either. Today the fight is different. In Santiago's public library, there is a clear sign at the entrance decorated in the colours of the rainbow: "Space safe from sexist harassment". Is this really a bewitched land? Beaches only frequented by locals, whether it's grandmothers walking their dogs and bathing topless in the late afternoon, or early morning bikers helping local fishermen drag their small boats out to sea. They passed me many times as I walked along roads between beaches and mountains. The motorbike is good for exploring the thousands of beaches in the Rias, some of them smelling more of pine than the sea, others with snakes hiding among the rocks... So much to explore! Don't tell anyone else, but I found some bible-worthy paradises on beaches with strangely warm water as if it were the Caribbean. And what to say about the view at the top of the 628 metres of the Moa with Carnota Bay on one side and Cape Fisterra on the other? The silence was absolute a little further down in the picnic area. There was a paradise on Earth, and it was in Galicia, "terra meiga".

that question about the double surname is like a bit of "what a nerve!", because the question is why so much machismo in the anglo culture on this topic. The faiur questions would be why an anglo sees how his beloved mother surname is not included in his name if he has a father and a mother, and probably he loves his mother more than his father, and her surname doesn't deserve to be forgotten. Why a n anglo woman sees how his father's surname is deleted from her name when she gets married (maiden name?, nee? wtf?). Is it so because she belongs to his husband and has no origins or previous life?. Those are the questions must be answered, because those anglo customs are a bit of nonsense and even unfair. 😁

Ok.... Here are the New York City culture shocks related to this video. 1. The best coffee sold here in NYC comes from Italy and Colombia. Puerto Rico coffee Bustelo is also good). Arab coffee is strong but good. 2. Here in New York City we NEVER say hi to the bus driver because otherwise bus drivers would go insane having to say hi over and over to hundreds of people. 3. We almost never use What's Up in NYC. Usually only Spanish and some other countries visiting use it here. But, Americans text or email mostly. 4. Here we never wear socks in Yoga class. That would be laughable to wear sox for that. But, it is hilarious and weird that Aussies walk barefoot in Australia. 5. Here in NYC we do have toilet paper in most restaurants at all times. But, public toilets such as portable or street bathrooms lack toilet paper a lot. 6. Road rage is a religion here in New York. Sad but true. In fact, we keep argueing alone about the incident in our sleep that night. 7. Living at home when older is becoming more of a thing in NYC because rents are sky high and jobs are being cut to part time. But, they contribute toward rent or get kicked out. 8. Arriving late to get togethers is now more common due to the massive excessive car traffic and train delays that have taken NYC hostage in the last 20 years. 9. Here most people below 30 years old will not give up their seat on the bus for the elderly or pregnant. Usually older than 30 will. Sad but true. 10. We don't have bull fighting here. But... sadly when a fight breaks out publicly here people will pull out their cameras to record it instead of breaking up the fight.
