The White Feather Hex by Don Peterson -Vintage Horror Short Story Audiobook human voice
When the feather turned red, the curse could no longer be lifted...
This Don Peterson is a bit of a mystery. A one shot wonder, or a pseudonym? There does not seem to be any information about this specific author to be found online, or it might simply be a case of the proverbial needle in the haystack of namesake Dons and Petersons. Anyway, this story is the only one credited to this name.
No background music, by popular demand. Only my voice, croaks, wheezes, and all. Enjoy!
-
Stories of Futures Past presents a vintage science fiction short story, narrated by myself, Tom Trussel. An actual, real living human being, warts and all.
Any and all voices and effects are produced live during reading with my actual voice. No obnoxious after effects, synthetic voices or filters used.
English is not my first language. There will be inaccurate accents and the occasional strange pronunciation. No mockery is ever intended.
These stories are also good for English learners / ESL. The full text is right there on the screen in a big and easy to read font. Read along with me. It's great practice!
Or, let me read you your bedtime story! If you need some ASMR sleep stories this channel is brimming with compilations and playlists.
A note about channel donations:
At this point in my life I do not need nor ask for your money. I do this for the love of the short story and to help promote the enjoyment of science fiction and fantasy literature.
However, if you enjoy my readings and would like to put your money where my mouth is, I would suggest instead to pay it forward to a good cause. Please consider donating to www.gutenberg.org/donate to help them keep up the good work. I make no secret that I find the majority of the public domain stories I read here on their website gutenberg.org. I am not affiliated with Project Gutenberg in any way other than that I use their website.

    Tom, the added value to this sequence of incredibly complicated and intense fictivities and the place of science within, is not only the actual 'foresaying' , but the collection and following order of the stories are put in. I am almost too imptessionable to digest it. Heavy stuff.

    So very strongly reminiscent of Rod Serling’s script “The Lonely” for The Twilight Zone.

    • @futurespast-42
      @futurespast-42 Před 4 dny

      Now you mention it , there certainly are some strong similarities. Slesar's story predates the Twilight Zone by a couple of years, and I would be surprised if Serling did not read avidly the pulps of the day. I think it is very common that writers are inspired by each other, taking an idea and putting their own spin on it. Nothing wrong with that, as long as they aren't verbatim rip-offs. Now we have two great stories with similar themes. Win-win! :)

    • @niriop
      @niriop Před 4 dny

      @@futurespast-42 Given that it was only published the once in a small pulp (according to ISFDB) I don’t think Serling himself did read it. Serling himself was not much of an SF reader. According to Marc Scott Zicree, it was Ray Bradbury who gave Serling a reading list to get started on SF at the development stage of The Twilight Zone. I think it’s just one of those odd coincidences.

    • @futurespast-42
      @futurespast-42 Před 4 dny

      I stand corrected in my assumptions :) I honestly do not know all that much about the Twilight Zone creation process, and I was not accusing Serling or anything like that. Many themes do float around in the Zeitgeist, as you say. :)

    • @niriop
      @niriop Před 4 dny

      @@futurespast-42 Oh I know you weren’t, and neither was I. It’s just one of those things. Zicree, who actually wrote the first book on TW, has a good video on the relationship between Serling and Bradbury and how the show came about that is worth watching. The interesting thing is: Serling did unintentionally plagiarise a Bradbury story for the pilot, and the latter never really got over it (at least according to Zicree).
