University of Chicago Center for Practical Wisdom
Registrace 4. 08. 2014
Wisdom was once regarded as a subject worthy of rigorous scholarly inquiry in order to understand its nature and benefits; however until recently wisdom has been relatively overlooked as a topic for serious scholarly and scientific investigation. It is difficult to imagine a subject more central to the highest aspirations of being human. The study of wisdom holds great promise for shedding light on and opening up new insights for human flourishing.
Led by University of Chicago faculty, in collaboration with scientists at other institutions, we investigate big questions in the field that have the greatest potential of influencing research, education, policy and professions: What is the relationship between expertise and wisdom? How does experience increase wisdom? What is the relationship between cognitive, social and emotional processes in mediating wisdom?

Conversations on Wisdom: Jason Stornelli
Jason Stornelli is an Associate Professor of Marketing in the College of Business at Oregon State University. His research investigates how people make judgments and decisions about self-regulation, with the aim of helping consumers to act in ways that foster their well-being.
In this interview, we discuss consumer behavior from a wisdom perspective including personal steps and steps businesses can take towards optimizing the market on the path to wise consumerism.
My favorite takeaway from this conversation:
"How do we encourage conversations about wise principles that happen on a level that is accessible, and that's interesting to people?"

Maybe that deep voice of that woman may give her stature, status, presence, but I barely can understand her. On the opposite side, Deepak's higher pitch. Easy to hear and understand.
❤
Thank you
I am a wisdom researcher. Connecting people through wisdom
Deepak, you inspire me. I absolutely love your talks and wisdom ❤
Love you Deepak ❤️❤️
So encouraging to see this kind of research happening!
Content is great. He needs work on elocution and pace.
I believe that is Dr. Fiery Cushman, not Dr. Joshua Greene.
When we talk about seeking diversity - do we mean diversity in thought?
Thank you
According to him liberal democracy is on the way out in Hungary and Poland? ...and he wrote a book with the title of Why Smart People Can Be So Stupid? He should just look in the mirror.
leave him alone. he's amazing don't you have better things to do
@@tayazdi It's like me saying: Leave Hungarians alone. We (Hungarians) are amazing, doesn't he have better things to do?

Nothing wise about kim fox
Willing to bet you only did this interview because she’s coming up for re-election. One she will hopefully lose. She will lose if justice still exists. Shame on you for trying to prop up this scum buckets image. Nothing wise about this channel
Ahhh yes, a lecture on the wisdom of following fair and impartial judicial procedures when you are a district attorney.
Thanks for your opinion and starting a discussion! Please feel to connect me with your suggestion for someone else in the area of justice and wise decision making (wisdom@uchicago.edu)
Why is the bicycle in the opening scene of this video moving backward? If I become wise will I be able to do that on my bike?
Thicker than a snicker
Thank You for as usally always so interesting information from Richard J. Davidson! I have a question if the gut also can change the brain?
thank you.
You're welcome!
Loved hearing this conversation from Sternberg. My dissertation was on Wisdom, Leadership, and Constructive-Developmental Theory. Sternberg's work greatly influenced this work. So grateful to hear him in person speak to ethics in leadership and wisdom overall. Thanks to the university for making this possible.
Easier to identify the wisdom of an act than wisdom of a wise person. Proverbs 17:28 Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.
can one create a habit of wisdom? If I think about myself in the third person too much, will I be less integrated? What if the situation requires swift and decisive action?
one needs the concept to identify the class, and yet, one needs the class to identify the class to identify the concept. To try to gather sages, you would have to have some sort of guiding principle of identifying them for inclusion. Once you have gathered them, then you could then begin to identify the essence common to each of the examples picked. So anyone making such a grouping assumes they exist, assumes an essence of them, and assumes they have some idea of what it is. But where do each of these assumptions come from? Would you consider a successful general as a sage? Regardless of this criticism, I am very interested in whatever degree of success you have with this project.
Ardelt is a genius speaker and lecturer. Her Wisdom research is the reason she is publicly regarded as an authority on Life-Course Wisdom.
