    Very interesting thoughts. We are currently having a huge problem coming to an agreement on definitions on roles, coming up with the jobs we need in AI/ML, and screening candidates at my organization. It seems I'm not alone here.

    You mentioned a lot of applications for the Army. Have you seen much work with other branches, yet?

    • @datacanteen
      @datacanteen Před 2 lety

      Absolutely! The domain of national security is generally ripe for extracting a lot more value with using data science and machine learning. Having said that, with the Army being the largest armed service branch of the U.S. military, it represents an outsized portion of that opportunity potential :-)!

    If there's one organization that has a lot of opportunities (in raw form), it's the Army. I really have a lot of hope for our future; assuming we use our power to good causes.

      Dom W., thank you so much for that feedback 🙏! Sounds like this episode served you well, and that makes me very happy 😁! And, yes, the ultimate answer to demonstrating competence in the datasphere is functional polished implementations of whatever it is that you would like to do for a living - which can range from Tableau/PowerBI dashboards all the way up to deployed ML pipelines and beyond. As they say, “seeing is believing” (despite the fact that Adversarial GANs & “deep fakes” are somewhat eroding that age-old maxim 😂).

    I love crack the coding interview, great book. People throw a lot of shade at coding interviews, I can see why but I must say, the books that come out as a product of coding interviews have made me more efficient and quick on my feet. I will check out Nick's book.

    agree 100% about credentials, need demonstrated skills. I've seen many people tout their Phd as an argument that I should just trust the their model without providing any methodology or evaluation statistics. Another scenario is touting it to suggest that everything has been tried to solve a problem and that nothing else can be done. I've had someone say this to me and then when I asked them to provide their methodology, it showed that they merely dumped a bunch of data into an multi-layer perceptron without doing any feature engineering or EDA.
