For 17, I kind of disagree, at least surface level. I think it's important to distinguish between one's "ego in the front seat" and plainly lying to onesself, which I find, fits closer to what you're referring to. I think ego and arrogance is a force for good when it drives hope and ambition. Of course I don't mean it should be at the expense of your personality and relationships, that's called being an asshole and its completely unrelated.
