A digital packing list where you can build up your inventory of equipment, then select the items you will need for a certain trip, thereby creating a custom packing list for each and every trip and their different requirements. If you add the weights of your items into the inventory it will also calculate your total pack weight for each specific trip. This is sooo epic guys!!! I'm Argentinean and have done a few trips in Patagonia. I did Lago Cholila, down Carrileufu, onto Lago Rivadavia, and finished in Lago Verde, I have that video up too, STUNNING doesn't begin to do it justice!! I'm going through your series now as I am going to Patagonia late march, beginning April and want to packraft down the Rio Puelo from Lago Puelo to the town of Puelo itself. How's the class 5 canyon portage/hike around? Any tips or advice for this route in particular?? Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated ad I'm going solo 🙂!

Thanks, Yeah, you've got to put a bit of elbow grease into it, but overall there's a LOT less preparation than with for example the bow drill.
After creating your beveled hole, you also cut a perpendicular groove at the hole on the back side? The ember is created from which bamboo peice? You started your friction sawing motion angled on a rock, then ended on flat ground is that standard technique? How long does it take for the sawing motion to create an ember usually?
Hi, in answer to your questions yes it does make it easier if you cut a shallow groove on the upper face, it helps guide the saw and stops it from slipping out of place. From my experience the ember is created equally from both pieces. I found using the two halves of the same section of split bamboo to work best as they are the same strength, hardness etc, and should burn at an equal rate. The change in position and angle was probably to avoid scraping my hand on the floor during the sawing motion, it can be more comfortable to place the base on a narrow raised surface so your hands are slightl elevated and will not be not be painfully hitting the ground during the sawing motion. Hope this helps your practice:)

A small piece of bamboo to stop the shreds (or srapings) from falling out or moving position as I turn the bamboo base over

Looked kind of close using your face as a brace on that rock. Use the paddle to brace. Unless you invest in a helmet. Which I highly recommend.
Yes, safety first 👍. Our trip is over 1000km long with very few rapids so we chose not to bring a helmet for space weight savings.
