In the second episode of Ancestral Sources, we explore manuscripts taken from Muslim merchants in the Asante Empire during the diplomatic mission of Joseph Dupuis. These documents give us not only further insight and appreciation for the literary traditions of West Africa, but also important knowledge about contemporary understandings of the world, trade, and the British project of understandin...

Yohannes's situation has gone from bad to terrible. Italy advances on his empire from the north; the Mahdists launch increasingly devastating raids from the east; and to the south, Menelik slowly gnaws at Yohannes's base of power. During this episode, the Emperor will make efforts to solve all three of these extremely pressing issues, culminating in the largest battle he will ever fight. Patreo...

In spite of initially calm relations, the Mahdist state will engage in two brutal battles against the Ethiopian Empire. If one believes in the idea of a single "Mahdist War", then these two battles were among its largest, its most brutal, and perhaps its most devastating. This video tells the story of first of these two battles and, continuing the Ethiopia series, places it in a broader narrati...

Ethiopian histories often gloss over Menelik's southern conquests. That said, glossing over these campaigns is perhaps the biggest mistake one can make if they want to understand Ethiopian history - they were critical for the rise of Ethiopia's most famous Emperor. After years of preparation, this future Emperor is now preparing himself for one of his most important conquests - that of the city...

Overall the documentary is good. Here is what is missing 1) Harari flag 2) Menilik had 35 thousand Amhara solders, 70 thousand Oromo solders and 112 British soldiers in charge of Artillery and consultants 3) Amir Abdulahi had 4 thousand Harari solders, 3 thousand Somali soldiers, and 2 thousand Oromo solders 4) the Battle of Chelenqo lasted 11 houses and 45 minutes Source: Kabir Ahmed Abdujalil who in 1973 at age of 109 in the city of Jigjiga. He lost his father and brother in the battle of Chelenqo. He founded the city of Jigjiga after he, his brother and mother were expelled from city of Harar in February 1887.

Menelik is the King of Kings. No one can deny the truth. He united his people, created the modern Ethiopia, and fought for her liberty until his death with of course his wife, the lioness of the horn, Etegie Taytu and other heroes💚💛❤. And yaa I forgot to say it: Menelik is always the King of the Kings.

I’ll like to see more of the Great Benin Empire history here especially that Of Queen Idia and her son Oba Esigie.
