What time of year did you go through the passage
It's only open some years, and usually mid August to mid September
@JohnPennington-xx8qx Looks like a beautiful, but dangerous voyage. Just wondering if there was a time when there was no ice, but I think that would be wishful thinking
The sea ice melts each year in a slightly different pattern but last year we had ice in Baffin Bay and Victoria Straight. The rest was relatively clear, aside from the ubiquitous ice bergs from Newfoundland to Bellot Straight

Didn't use it, just a regular downward-facing sounder. The ice was pretty hard on anything sticking out of the hull, though.

Hey John enjoyed your video loved the narration from your son. Quick question did you guys spent time prepping your boat in Wickford marina in the winter of 2020 ?. We bought our boat then and spent our first winter there and remember a young couple with a young kid on an aluminum boat we were just wondering if that was you guys. You definitively looked like a family on a mission with that boat now I can see what the mission was :) congrats !
Yes! That was us; we spent three winters at that marina and did all our welding work in the water there. Small sailing world! Hope you're doing well and enjoying boat life on Evergreen--love the boat name!

Hi Dale; no, that wasn't us; we went directly from Mass to Nova Scotia. However, there was a sister ship in the area, Mirrakel which is almost identical who was around there at the time. You probably saw her!

I can't imagine anybody taking this risk and involving a woman and a young boy! Maybe two or three guys, okay but would I put my wife and only child through this?...no. Having said that: this is epic and exceptionally adventurous for all involved. So glad there was no mishap!

Nice video, It caught me off guard when I realized that you were starting on the East Coast and doing the NWP from North to south.
Yeah, a lot of the distance was up from the East Coast and then down to southern Alaska. The distance west across the top was only a couple thousand miles but they were stressful ones for sure!

If I could suggest, there are a couple of great tunes that talk about Lord Franklin's attempt to find the Northwest Passage. Stan Roger's Northwest Passage and Lord Franklin (the full title is Lord Franklin (Lady Franklin's Lament)), done by Kevin Burke and Mícheál Ó Domhnaill from their Promenade album.

An amazing boy being raised by amazing parents. He is absorbing information that has mostly been lost to Western Civilization, and it will make him grow into a thoughtful, direct human being. Humanity NEEDS this: an adventure watched over by realistic AND protective paents. He and others like him will change the world into what it needs to be.... may That Which Is Divine watch over and guide him.... he is needed in this world.
