    I’ve always found travelling on a night train to be brave. I‘ve been to over seventy countries so far, but I‘d never dare sit or sleep on a night train (neither in my own, nor in a foreign country). I know it’s practical; especially if you want to arrive rested and ready to tour the city in the morning, but it’s not my cup of tea.

      @@Europe-By-Train Yes. I‘ve travelled all over Europe on trains; Paris-Marseille (800 Km) on a TGV (3h15‘), Berlin-Munich (600 Km) on a ICE (4h), London-Paris (460 Km, 2h35‘), Zurich-Brussels (650 Km, 5h), London-Glasgow (680 Km, 5h), Berlin-Budapest (880 Km, 11h), Zurich-Rome (860 Km, 8h)… but it was always an early morning train. I wouldn’t feel safe at any European train station after 9PM.

      @@Sir_Typesalot For me, so far, the worst station I was waiting for a night train at, was Split. But overall, no safety issues. I always book a private compartment. Czech Railway's ones feel the safest to me - attendant in the carriage, room lockable both from outside and inside. Often you can use a Lounge at the station with the ticket while waiting.

    I also traveled on this beautiful night train last year. We were almost 2 hours late in Bar. This meant that you could also see the beautiful mountain route on the Montenegro side in daylight. You could buy Turkish coffee for one euro from a sleeping car conductor and yes, there was no breakfast, but you can live with it. There are worse things, I can only recommend the trip to everyone, because this route is unique in Europe. In Bar there are many seaside resorts on the Adriatic, where you can find beautiful bays and beaches to relax and enjoy by the sea. I will definitely travel on this train again.🚂💯👌

    • @Europe-By-Train
      @Europe-By-Train Před 2 dny

      I didn't know about the Turkish coffee onboard :) I knew there was no breakfast and got some bakery and water earlier, so no problem at all. It was a great experience overall, only the border check at night is a minus. I visited Budva and Kotor after. Would do it all again for sure.

    • @172Manager
      @172Manager Před 2 dny

      The Turkish coffee was a coincidence because only one sleeper car, Taner, prepared it privately and unofficially for the guests on a camping gas cooker. So as far as fire safety is concerned, you can't look. Some passengers smoked with us too. It's allowed in Montenegro because it's not part of the EU, but the train was still a great experience. The border control is a bit annoying at night. You're not allowed to take photos. I was immediately shouted at by a police officer because I just wanted to take a photo of the sign for Prijepolje Teretna station. I also recommend the Šarganska osmica steam train (about 30 km from Uzice).

    • @Europe-By-Train
      @Europe-By-Train Před 2 dny

      Wow, you had an authentic experience with the gas cooker. No grilling sausages on the open fire? :D Compared to that, my carriage felt so posh, like the Orient Express - my fellow passengers went to bed with chickens, no parties, no fights, empty corridors, smelled smoke from the neighbouring cabin just once during the journey… just boring :) Stations in the region must have some kind of top-secret classification or I don’t know…. I was shouted at by security for recording inside the Sarajevo station… like there was anything to see through the smoke anyway…

      Actually things are not going for better except for 1% of the network between Subotica and Belgrade, rest of the network is falling appart. Trains were regular on many lines 10 years ago that are now not even active anymore (Belgrade to Kragujevac or Čačak). You had 15+ international active lines before SNS rule, now you have to Montenegro and this short Szeged train, which is almost Albania shit level.

      @carick235 Před 7 dny

      This section was also upgraded recently to 120 km/h in Serbian part, but Belgrade-Budapest HSR line is going from Subotica towards Kelebia in HU, west of Szeged. I think its a pretty stupid decision by Hungarian government not to put Szeged on the main Belgrade-Budapest route, they basically put Szeged as the 3rd biggest city on the 2nd level line.

    • @FrankyLon
      @FrankyLon Před dnem

      @@carick235 It makes more sense if you know the history of the region. Beograd (and Subotica) used to be part of Hungary when the railway lines were built, a direct route was logical, Szeged was more like a regional centre. After World War 1 if I remember correctly it was part of the peace deal that the second track on the main line was lifted (Yugoslavia was scared of a potential Hungarian invasion) and the changes in borders, politics etc. made Szeged more important. Main freight and passenger traffic was moved to the Budapest-Szeged Line and that became main line. The station in Szeged is not a through station, it is dead end, so any attempt to divert the main route that way either would require a new station further away from the city centre or a tunnel underneath the historic city centre. The line also joins from the South in Subotica, essentially turning back towards Hungary, so unless you want to change direction there you need a spur circling the city from North or a triangle at the existing junction and you skip Subotica. Even then, you added quite a few extra miles and most of the traffic (especially freight) is between Budapest and Beograd (and beyond) and not between Beograd and Szeged. Renewing the direct route makes more sense and for the regional traffic between Szeged and Subotica the secondary line can be used.

    Really helpful video. Thank you very much. Do you happen to know the timetable with the trains that depart daily from Ljubljana to Trieste? Because I find really mixed and unreliable information in google. Thanks in advance.

      Hello. Thank you for your feedback. Slovenian railways are redirecting visitors to OBB' Scotty search engine for international travel: fahrplan.oebb.at/webapp/?language=en_GB#!P|null!H|91917

      @@Europe-By-Train Thank you for the answer. It's kind of weird that's there's not a morning train anymore. Maybe a bus would be a better solution for sb who wants to travel early?

      @@1391mad I took the 5:49 connection from Ljubljana. I can still see it in the search results on OBB and Trenitalia. But some other search engines don't show it for some reason...

    Beautiful and impressive indeed. I guess train operators in Italy have heavily invested in stock and I hear train travel in Italy is not as killing as in Europe, fare wise. Don’t know if I missed it, how much is the distance and time between the two. Thank you 👍👍

    • @Europe-By-Train
      @Europe-By-Train Před 13 dny

      The distance seems to be approx. 260km. Time depends on the length of the break in Trieste - shortest is 5.5 hours.

    Difference between first and second class pls?

      Hello, the only difference I noticed was the seating configuration 2+1 in the first class versus mainly 2+2 in the second class.
