The Sunshine Company - On A Beautiful Day
Southern California soft pop quintet the Sunshine Company comprised singer Mary Nance, singer/guitarist Maury Manseau, guitarist/violinist Douglas Mark, bassist Larry Sims, and drummer Merel Bregante. Signing to Imperial Records in the fall of 1967, the group issued its debut LP Happy Is the Sunshine Company, scoring their lone Top 40 hit with the single "Back on the Street Again." The album also generated the minor hit "Happy," although with their self-titled sophomore effort, the Sunshine Company's commercial momentum dissipated, and in the wake of their third LP, 1968's Sunshine and Shadows, the group disbanded (although rumors of a completed but unreleased fourth effort, supposedly titled Think, continue to circulate). Eban Brown, Herb Murrell, Arrion Love, and Van Fields make a great team! I love listening 2 them! No offense to Joan Jett, but *HOW* could people not see that she completely ripped off Suzi in almost every possible way? From the sound, to the look, to the attitude… on and on and on. One of the most blatant cases of plagiarism in the history of rock and roll. And then Joan went on to become huge in her home country, after Suzi had toiled in relative obscurity here for years. I still can’t wrap my head around it. At any rate, I can’t say enough about Suzi. She was and still is the *REAL* deal. A true original, and deserves to be included in the same chapter of the history books as Tina Turner and Janis Joplin, even if she didn’t conquer America like those two. All I know is that the music has held up well through the years. This still gets my ass shaking and my feet stomping.

My moms favorite song
For some reason when I see this video, the word that comes to mind is "haunting." Beautiful ladies singing a beautiful song beautifully. Their background story is inspiring but tinged with sadness. Their run was relatively short but impactful in the industry. It's a shame they didn't have a 50-year run, although I'm not sure that's what would have been best for them all career-wise. The story of the replacement of one of the originals is sad as well as her fate. This is a window into her happier time it would appear. Simple songs, elegant performances. Stands the test of time. I love watching every video of the various performances of this song. Their consistency is also remarkable.
