Trying to picture this powerplant in a Kei car or truck.🤔
This guy just bolted a AMS 500 into a Kei car with a 660-cc gasoline engine: czcams.com/video/q3CtwqD1FM0/video.html He's having trouble with the boost control... so if you can share any insight or design details with him, to help him out, I'm sure he'd be grateful.
What intercooler is this vehicle from? The one with the ports on the top
Have you weighed the car on the scales? Why didn't you keep the exhausts separate? Each exhaust could have a air fuel sensor. Since you have a 90 degree V twin each cylinder should be kept separate from intake to exhaust. All of this you already know.

use as tinny CV carb as you can find, as many as needed to match stock cross section. which doesn't open all at the same time. some fed with gasoline, some fed with water.
Very loud! Quiet neighbors make happy neighborhoods.
Jimbo, are you on X/Twitter? 🎩🧐🤔
0-60 times would probably be better if you'd kept the throttle wide open while shifting (and shifted fast enough to minimize over-rev) while also really holding down through the redline. OTOH, holding high RPM might not help as much with the lawnmower carb given how much it chokes things and the pumping losses you'd get at higher rpm, so shifting early there might actually work better. (pumping losses would be obvious by just how much vacuum is being pulled at given RPM) The Saturn engine isn't very torqey on the low end, either, so that might still be a bad trade-off. It does make me wonder more about how an old Pontiac Iron Duke might manage like this, since it's got a fair bit more low end torque for a small engine of that era or slightly earlier. And would burning oil on a 200k+ mile engine really burn out the cat like that? I had an '85 SE Fiero with over 250k on it that was really run hard and the only emissions issue was a bad EGR valve that was easy to fix (though the engine ran smoother with the bad one in there ... either that or the new TPS unit got messed up when we did the EGR replacement ... just a low-end near-idle stumble, but still) Had it been an automatic, that probably would've died long before that. Kinda wish I still had that, but we got rid of it after some electrical issues and the clutch going bad (might have been the friction plate going bad, but we'd spent a ton of time chasing down hydraulic issues before giving up rather than dropping the tranny and pulling the clutch ... plus it was a horrible mess of caked on oil and grease). Hmm, actually, if that Saturn was running high zinc content oil, it might've burnt out the cat faster given that can poison it, where typical modern oil (even cheap non-synthetic stuff) doesn't have that by default, and you tend to use additives for classic cars. (80s and later cars tend to be engineered with that in mind, partially due to low zinc oil for cat longevity)
'More' Diesel?
Jimbo there is no reason to cut out the ramblings. They are half the fun of the videos.
The throttle response might have gotten worse because the throttle had more play because of the spacer
You sir are a real genius! Oscilloscopes, Arduinos, writing programs, fabricating! The thought process in making all these decisions! It's always a blast watching your videos!😮
The experiment I want to see, is a compound turbo or "power recovery turbine" that contributes recovered engine exhaust energy to the drive train.
Gasoline has different densities. Premium octane is the highest and standard gas is the lowest. Lean cruise, that is where the fuel economy gets good, but it needs to be tuned with extra ignition advance.
thunderheads idea of a small engine carb on a V8 is mental, it shouldnt work, but it does. His theory is, that the very high air velocity through the small carb venturi produces very good fuel atomization which offsets the restriction. I once bought a great wall 4WD (2.4 petrol) and when I got it, it did 0-100km/hr in 24 seconds. Bashed both cats out, it improved to 16 seconds 0 to 100km/hr. Both catss were clogged with ash, and the vehicle is not an oil burner.
That motor probably has more HP than the original did and probably more reliable
You should run this on a diesel used cooking oil mix and see how good it runs!
That makes it a diesel hybrid right?
I'm pretty sure that's the same 0 to 55 time as a 1979 turbo trans am.
There are some set screws with teeth that bite into the shaft. Finer thread set screws also hold better. Also a 2nd "toothless" set screw locks the 1st "toothed" one in. Thread locker is recommended. You might have to make a new set collar if short screws can't be found. I really like what you do. 👍👍
I know you have no air con. In this but it would be interesting to see if routing the cold air from that to the intake (blower) would make a difference.👍 Anyway, keep it up.
Meh . No RC. Hope you’re well and all is good.
Where did you get the bigger rear view mirror?
Okay. Now drive it up Pikes Peak.
Missed you today, that’s ok… time for a rerun 😊
I have no idea under what context this ended up posted, but it doesnt matter when it was that great 🤣 didnt see that coming
Just coming back to get a fix of coffee and Cantina so my Sunday can carry on as normal as possible, and Jimbo can enjoy his vacation. I cant believe these older videos havent been checked out by more of us fans that didnt see them originally. Youve been up to some neat stuff for good while! Enjoy that time off, man. You sure deserve a break. Youve been a sunday habit for my that I dont want to break, so here I am watching older uploads 😂. Keep doing what youre doing man, im here for it 1000%😎
Yes Jimbo... that's interesting... I'm viewing from Spain
This is super cool stuff man thank you! This info is applicable to making almost any engine run on its own with a little time and effort
LOVE the explanation at the end! Thank you! LOVE LOVE LOVE your show! Your explanations help a lot -
First comment: love the tinkercad callout!
Almost 100kmh is fast enough for the highway
Hey Jimbo, the computer/software stuff tasks me, I try to follow...
This is great stuff. I built my own CNC wood carving machine using an Uno r3 . I have followed this from the beginning, great job.
I wonder what the goal is and why he choose a tiny Kubota diesel instead of a, let's say, a TwinAir two cylinder 900 cc engine. Turbo charged these will at least have 105 hp. Doing the 'Everything at Home' trick that number would probable be much higher.
How about an electronic accelerator pedal with the ecu controlling the rack and the boost
had the same idea.
Awesome video!
Nah, the 5 speed makes it good as well because the automatics of this gen are awful.
Hey Jimbo, just wanted to stop by and see how the cover sheets are coming on those TPS reports
Man. I really wish I could do this level of genius with arduino. I can barely make LEDs blink without googling code.
This is very good information im looking to pick the right time delay relay any chance you would steer me in the right direction please.
Get to the point, I gave up halfway.
Wouldnt a turbo be more efficient than a supercharger? Maybe a variable vane turbo to make it spool on low rpms aswell. Maybe also a intercooler and water injetion. So it runs cooler.
And NOS, how else would he win against hector and his turboed spoon engines with motec exhausts😅😎
Love your projects. Thanks for sharing!
I for one love the coding side of it, just as much as the mechanics and fabrication. Keep up the good work!
You’re videos are greatly appreciated! I actually was on vacation last week and missed the previous video until I got home.
Thanks Jimbo! I'm also on vacation. Woot!😊
The electric clutch on the supercharger is nothing new. Look at the SC14 supercharger from the Toyota MR2 or the Supercharger on the Mercedes CLK. Both use electromagnetic clutches to do precisely what you described! The SC14 was built by a company called Ogura Clutch. It was truly a marvel of engineering at the time and still is as far as I am concerned!
