It is unclear to me what the Jewish man is quoting. There is no description anywhere in the Torah about the qualities of a "final prophet." We only have descriptions of false prophets (Deut. 13:2) There are debates among the Jewish Sages where the concept of a final redeemer even came from and from where it can be sourced in our scriptures. No one debates the authenticity of the idea in Judiasm, but it unclear from where it originated (some point to King Hizkiyahu as the source of this idea. Hizkiyahu's humility itself, which, according to the Sages caused the destruction of the Assyrian army and the deliverance of the Jews when Jerusalem was attacked by Sancherib, causing him to be considered by some as the Messiah, thus this could be a source). There are however descriptions of God's slowness to anger, etc (Exodus 34:6), which everyone strives to achieve - certainly a prophet or righteous leader - and perhaps this is the source of the Jewish man's reference in the Hadith..... Furthermore, in Halacha it is forbidden to pursue a debtor to repay his loan after it is due (this is explicit in the Torah, Exodus 22:24)- certainly BEFORE it is due! He is actually forbidden to go to areas that the borrower is known to frequent, so that he see him and be uncomfortable (Shulchan Oruch, Choshen Mishpat 97:2). Thus, if this Jewish man was ignorant of a basic law such as that, and he is nevertheless giving out loans, I would doubt his familiarity with accurate verses from the Torah.

Say a person decides to become Shia. Before that they were never a Muslim. Yet when that person was an unbeliever they saved up $15000.00 before becoming a Muslim. Do they still have to pay Khums from that $15,000.00 they saved up and put away when they were an unbeliever? The reality is that we shouldnt follow scholars who dont know much about finance. Take a mortgage if the payments are affordable and you are not exploiting anybody, and if you are not being exploited and the home suits your needs. This has little to do with greedy moneylenders explointing poor indebted farmers and selling them into slavery at the time pf the prophet.
