    Excellent video. Too many parents forget that they are meant to be the first educators. The first step of homeschooling is "Careful home training. free from useless waste". Too many parents in the past and present have become indoctrinated and lied by the mainstream , thinking that public and private schools will teach everything. The education system of too many nations is selected students,. average students. and students that can. easily be shifted out to a life of a limited future. Too many parents who never appreciated learning invent excuses that they can't home school. Ignorance is no excuse. Institutionalisation destroys creativity and potential. Your video proves that parents should take responsibility in educating their offsprings and not depend on narrow minded mainstream institutions and narrow minded people for answers when problems can't be solved.

    I was homeschooled most of my life and I can so relate with the mindset of just learning as much as I can because I if I wonder I want to know! People at my job joke if someone needs to know something to ask me and I'll figure it out. I just couldn't understand why someone wouldn't want to learn more if they could and now it's clear that was just part of my mindset doing my own homeschool program until 8th grade that I was working hard to better myself not for what the school expected of me. Now saying that there is somethings I think that can be hard with homeschooling I didn't have a schedule and till this day I struggle with time management and it wasn't nessisary easy for my mom and she had a teaching degree so it's not a perfect fit for every family but I wish that the public school districts tought more by kids interests and grow with them versus expecting us all to be one way.

    I homeschooled both of my two teens. My decision was influenced by the COVID era and how the public school were failing my oldest, and the youngest one wanted to try it too. In two years and half, my oldest graduated with a HS diploma and Associates degree in Computer Science. He is now completing his bachelors in Computer Engineering at top state school with a full scholarship. Next, my daughter will be graduating soon with her a HS diploma and Associates degree in Accounting. We are looking at schools willing to give her a full ride. Homeschooling isn't for everyone. But, it is a viable option for parents who want to ensure their kids are going to thrive, have the resources and time to commit. I was fortunate enough to work from home and make 6 figs. Not everyone is as fortunate.

    I’m curious how kids get the proper amount of social exposure by being homeschooled? This isn’t meant in a bad way, it’s just an observation I’ve made in my history of running into homeschooled kids. They seem to tremendously lack social skills and come across very awkward.

    • @BrandonEdwardsOfficial
      @BrandonEdwardsOfficial Před 6 měsíci

      I’ve thought about this a lot and appreciate your comment. One thing I’ve realized with homeschool parents and why they decided to homeschool in the first place is that they took their kids out of public school because they were already socially awkward in the first place. Their child experienced negative socialization (bullying, no one talking or interacting with them, etc) and so their parents removed them from public school which further isolated them and heightened the lack of social skills. Have you also noticed that? Having never went to public school for a day, activities like church, gymnastics, jujitsu, sports, vacations, scouts, youth night, my parents including me and my siblings in social activities all helped to encourage me to get outside my little world. Hope this helps and encourages :)

      @@BrandonEdwardsOfficial Yes, that's a great point. I'm curious what your all's hometown environment was like? Plenty to do? My wife and I are torn. We're 27 with 4 kids 5yrs and under. We see how bad public schools are these days and how poor the curriculum is for kids. We would love to homeschool, and my wife is perfectly fit for it. However, our oldest girl (would be eligible for K this next year) is very social and wicked smart. My wife does lessons with her/the kids now, but the oldest continuously asks when she'll be done with "mommy's school" and can do "real school." Our next oldest is 3 and she's really smart too, but has been a bit behind with speech. We worked and worked and worked to get her talking right with *NO* luck. She wouldn't listen and she'd get frustrated with us. It wasn't until we took her to a speech therapist that she got better, and it was immediate. This makes us think she'd learn much more with someone other than her parents teaching her things. Now, why I asked about your hometown environment, we live in a small town of maybe 12k people. Not much goes on, the church options aren't great, and the only homeschool groups we can find are 45min+ away. If we had a group closer to us, homeschooling would be much easier. Because of this, we worry about how to get our kids proper socializing exposure.

I never questioned it, and you guys are so articulate and chill, you really speak to the attractiveness of being homeschooled! My favorite teacher in high school (RIP!) always said he hated standardized tests and showed us the comic of the schoolteacher asking different types of animals, bird, fish, dog, elephant, snake, whatever, to climb a tree. I had so much respect for him and his commitment to accommodating people's different learning styles. This is a great testimonial to that. Thanks for the video!

I look back on it and it was truly amazing! some of the best things are... you can get done with school at 11 am instead of sitting in a classroom all day... you can even do your school outside... and being taught by my mom... and being able to go anywhere random when needed like field trips and family stuff... and most importantly you can learn baste off of your interests instead of conforming to what the government wants you to learn... last thing you can learn about and freely glorify God!

      If I’m being honest, if my parents allowed it, I probably would’ve played games all day 😂 I loved games! But… our parents were smart and would limit our screen/ gaming time to an hour a day after chores and two hours on weekends after chores. I loved gaming, still do today, but I have a healthy relationship with it now where I play on a schedule. I think limiting the duration of console, PC, tablet and phone games (aka screens), will provide an opportunity for them to discover more of life. That will also be an opportune time for you as a parent to step in, find your old interests and help them to discover more as well. Go hiking, disc golfing, go to your local fitness center and play basketball, lift weights, play board/ card games at home, build little army men, tape paper together and draw armies battling (tap into his imagination), go swimming, take lessons together to learn about practical programming, order Mark Rober’s “crunch labs” kit where he teaches hands on learning, read a book with your child like A to Z mysteries and have them guess who the perpetrator is as the book continues, go sign them up in juijitsu so they can learn discipline/ coordination and body control. Getting your children on a schedule of pleasure releasing activities such as gaming, will help them to enjoy them more. Dopamine will flow, it will be exciting and not just over saturating if they’re playing all day long. YOU GOT THIS! :)

    I agree with most of your pro's... except the indoctrination comment. I personally think that children need as many different examples of how they can be as possible. That way they can really make decisions about who they want to be. My own children spent time with people from all over the world and from many different walks of life, and they are well rounded adults who have no fear of anyone.

I decided to allow my 16 year old to go back to public school this year to experience high school and I’m already regretting that decision. Your comment about fear reminded me of an experience my homeschooled daughter had when she went to college. She called me one day and said, "Why is everyone so anxious and freaking out all the time over every little assignment?" I had to explain to her the fear associated with public schools. She thought it was completely bizarre. And just to show that fear isn't necessary, she earned an academic scholarship, won a writing award, and completed her degree in less than 4 years. No fear.

  • @towanda1067

    Homeschooling, when done right and for the right reasons, can be a great way for a child to get an education, no doubt about it. Less time in the "classroom," more hands on learning, more autonomy to do what you want, learning modified to the individual's needs, etc. I would argue that a public school teacher with only 1-10 children in her class could do a comparable job as a homeschooling parent- perhaps even better because s/he would offer an additional perspective and have the benefit of a college education geared towards teaching. It is unfair to compare a homeschool education to one where one single individual, the public school teacher, is trying to teach 25-35 students in an environment constricted by all sorts of legal rules and regulations and chronically underfunded. It is not a fair or useful comparison and certainly doesn't prove that homeschooling is better. What it does show is that children learn better in smaller groups that have greater autonomy, something we have known for decades. So why don't we do this? Simple- money. It would cost too much to use this model in any kind of widespread way. So instead we have overcrowded, underfunded public schools. Some, like you two guys, have the option to opt out of public school to get this boutique-style education called homeschooling. But the majority of kids don't really have this option. Maybe their family is highly dysfunctional. Maybe economic necessity forces both parents to work. Perhaps neither parent wants to teach. Or perhaps there is only one parent in the home and that person doesn't have the time/energy/ability to teach. There are so many reasons why homeschooling may not be an option for a child. Public school offers these children not only the education they might otherwise not get, but it often is a lifeline for children whose families are so dysfunctional that their basic needs aren't even being met, never mind their educational needs. Think what would happen to these children if homeschooling was their only option. Homeschooling, per se, isn't "better" or worse than public school. It's just one possible option- a potentially a good one- for families who have the desire and resources to do it. Recognize that means families that are priviledged in one way or another. Not all children have the luxury of that. By the way- as a public school teacher myself, I get tired of hearing that a reason to keep children out of public school is because teachers try to "indoctrinate" them. Teachers offer children his/her individual perspective just like everyone else they meet in the society does. Through public education, children are exposed to a multitude of different perspectives. They are also encouraged to think about these perspectives- to challenge them, adopt them, reject them, modify them, etc. That's what LEARNING means. I think that is one of the strengths of public education. It is more representative of the diversity that exists in this country/world. Modeling such diversity permits a child to become the individual he or she wants to be, rather than the person they are told to be in a more homogenous/monolithic environment. In the best case scenario, public schools offer a banquet of ideas, perspectives, culture, and information. Homeschooling, on the other hand, seems to revel in being selective- keeping the children in a bubble of conformity. Parents teach children the "right" way to think, the "right" books to read, the "right" friends to hang out with. You see this particularly when people homeschool for religious reasons. To me, that is not education; it is indoctrination. I am glad things worked out for you with homeschooling, but I would encourage you to think more deeply about this topic... it goes far beyond what is merely "better" or "worse."

      Yeah sure Towanda, keep thinking you’re enlightening people and not indoctrinating them as you clearly are. Homeschool is far superior to your public indoctrination chambers.

    Update: I commented on this video 10 months ago, (I commented as ZaxIsDank,) I discovered a talent and skill for real estate and temporarily quit CZcams (I'm returning as a financial motivation channel.) Long story short, this was one of the first videos I watched when I dreamed about having an office, now soon, it's about to become real. I'm going to be remodeling some offices in Texas and Georgia in the next 6-12 months and this progress has become humbling. Came across this video again, and just wanted to say thanks for the motivation!!

      Wow! Thank you man! That’s super exciting to hear. I quit CZcams as well pretty much a couple years ago and have just been doing real estate as well! Thanks for the kind words.
