Downshifting in automatic transmission - The King of Muscle

Trying to explain in easy to understand terms on how to downshift in an automatic transmission car in a manual shifting mode. Check out the first video before this one if you haven't used manual mode at all or wondering how to properly upshift - czcams.com/video/wmeu2eZctm0/video.html

Clear explanation, well done
how does it take you a year to learn upshifting
How do i downshift?
why does it say you're only putting down 200 ft pounds of torque? my sxt does 250
Great video 🫶🏻
Fax
Just get a manual.
So when you cruising you shift at 2-3 rpm’s but if you race you use higher? And if so does it hurt the trans shifting higher daily?
Yes, and no it shouldn't, but the engine would be working harder all the time. No point of doing that without an actual reason though. Do it when you need accelerate faster
u still kicking?
My only question here, Going from 50 to 0 approaching a stoplight, Just downshift periodically to first gear? In that case what if you have to come to a sudden emergency stop, do i now also need to worry about what gear im in? Thanks for all advice
This should be pinned, 5 years old and it is thorough, with subsequent deep dive links to up/down - and under ten minutes. Nice job!
I have a dodge charger scatpack. Does the car automatically downshift for you if you press on the brakes when approaching a stop light? Or do you have to use the downshift paddle to get to a stop?
I believe it should, try it out and you'll know for sure. No harm in trying 🙂
I may not be perfect but I've Always listened to the engine
You don't have to down shift. It will just do it
Best explanation to this date
Bro this is the best explination on this entire platform😭😭
So my question is do you accelerate as you downshift or let off the gas
Bro so for upshifting you keep foot on the gas. What about to downshift do you keep on the gas? No right? Because you downshift when rpms are going down?
The best thank you
Thank You
Really good video theres more videos that tell u and explain but this point of view helps because visually seeing it is better thsn just listeing
I found this very helpful, but I still have one question. He mentioned that when you are upshifting you shouldn't let off the throttle. Is it the same when downshifting? As in, should I keep my foot on the accelerator even when I'm downshifting, or should I take my foot off?
Hi I know this is late but just wondering if u ever figured this out? And also I am just wondering how can I do smoother shift I have sequential shifting which is the same as paddle shifters but using the gear box instead and pushing it up for a higher gear and down for lower. Because I know he said don’t let off the throttle when u up shift but when I let go for a second then upshift it feels a lot smoother for some reason but I don’t know. Essentially I just don’t want to fuck up the transmission. But ik u only started a few months ago but saw u had the same question as me so I replied. Sorry for the long response
Best video explaining how it works
When I downshift my KIA sportmatic automatic on manual it 'jerks'the car. Is it ruining the transmission? I am not anywhere near the red
Best Video on youtube about this topic, many don't hint on how to shift especially keeping legs on the throttle
Thank you so much bro
The Awesomeness of my Challenger out ways the minor factory defects. Hitting those paddle shifters definitely makes up for all it's defaults..... vrrrrooooooooom 💆🏾♀️💯👍🏾💞
So concise! Thanks for sharing bro!! Greetings from Jamaica😎👊🏾
This is the best explanation I seen. Thank you so much!!!
great video
Do people actually need a tutorial on using flappy paddles? Its just automatic with extra steps
You were a beginner once…
@@aaliyahhernandez223 I learned driving on an automatic. Then bought a car with flappy paddles. Literally figured it out in 30 seconds. It's not like it's an actual manual that needs skills to operate
Just got my first car with paddle shifters, will definitely try it next time I'm behind the car. Really good video man!
Quick question.. is there a reason why your car is pushing about 11 torque while you’re at a complete stop? My scat pack is doing the same thing and I’m not sure as to why or if it’s a bad thing. Thanks.
Think it's idle so the torque it uses when not pressing on the gas just letting it move on its own
sounds like the dad off despicable Me
when downshifting, should I put my foot on the brake and then downshift while foot is still on break, or can I just take my foot of the acceleration pedal and downshift without my foot on the brake or acceleration pedal?
Do you downshift when slowing down
does your car jerk at all when you downshift?
not really a fan of dodge challengers but your car Cleannn asf🔥
7:00 I’m definitely a spiritual driver every once and a while
I don’t like the videos emphasis on monitoring the tachometer. I’m sure the narrator rarely pays attention to the tachometer while driving
Casually driving at 5k rpms 😂😂 I like this guy
I just wanna know that my collant gauge just keep going up and down like yours is that normal ??
Great video man! Just a question… can u mess up the transmission if u miss a gear or go to low on the RPM?
This has probably already be understood but just in case from my own driving experience the answer is no. Manual in automatic cars which is what I’ll assume you’re driving are essentially “computer operated, driver input” transmissions so the car can’t directly shift from 4th to 2nd, something that can damage the transmission if you cause the car to go into redline for example, as automatic gears cycle through whilst shifting down so you never really just jump like you can through manual transmission. This also means the car can’t directly shift from 3rd to 6th. This in mind, you can shift up and put your car in higher gears whilst driving (something the car does to lower RPM and put less strain on the engine when it left in automatic) and nothing will happen. The car “cycles” through the gears and can’t jump up gears like a manual transmission can so the computer safely goes through the gears whilst up shifting and downshifting.
I have a 2018 Ford focus 1.5 diesel, my question is that here in Italy the speed limit on most roads is 50 know so while I'm driving at that speed should I be in 3rd reving @2000 for 10 minutes or so ...or should I be in 4th at 1500? The reason I ask is i want to cause less damage possible to engine.
it sounds like the Borat is giving me a driving lesson. 8/10 overall video rating
OMG THE best Tutorial video of using paddle shifters thank you!!!!!!!💪💪💪💪
Do a reverse one
Finally someone who explains it well and understanding! Gonna go try this on my charger!
4 years later and your helping a 2021 Trx owner. 😂🔥💪🏽
Again, your video is the only one that helps me understand the basic concept. I have been ignoramus on the pedal shifter until recent purchase of Elantra NLine. I have to agree with you that i should not downshift until i feel comfortable using the upshift first.
Thanks for this clear explaination in a nutshell. I recently bought Elantra N Line with DCT turbo engine. I had difficulty finding a video that explains from the very basic. Your video so far is the best for understanding the basic concept about the paddle shifter for a guy who had faintest idea about it. Thanks.
You are very welcome!
I fairly recently bought a Camaro SS with paddles and after having driven manual, the habit on not letting off the gas and pressing the dead pedal to shift took a second to adjust to, if I don't drive it for a while that habit comes back briefly. I bet that Elantra is fun!
