#41 Regged Rapid In The Farmyard
Time for another visit to the farm with the newly regulated Theoben Rapid. Steve at www.hw100tuning.co.uk has developed his own line of quickfills, gauge adaptors, regulators and valves for the Rapid so I'm out with mine to see how it performs!

Thought it was about time my HW80 was taken out for a visit on the farm-it was a very quiet morning possibly due to lots of shotgun noise in the distance from a game shoot but I still managed to bag a few. Its a very nice rifle to shoot, and it likes the excellent JSB RS best in 13grn.

Per cortesia, vorrei conoscere la marca e le caratteristiche dell' ottica montata sulla tua carabina. Grazie.
I have had a few hw80s the most famous one was Mike wade tuned one I now have the new HW 80 with 1/2 unf and moderator It’s .22 so it’s a hard hitting rifle
Great shooting, with a great gun, what a nice quick shot cycle..
I only had underlevers lile hw77 tx200 hc but now i got a hw80 its easily my favourite. Sold the hw77k and tx200hc and kept the hw80
whats the scope and on top of the scope?
That’s the camera I film with
do you just ask ramdom farm owners to use there land
Just got the same outfit as you in 177..incredible rifle and so easy to take with. Have 7 high quality rifles and this is without any doubt the one I would pick for most outings . Absolutely brilliant.
Just had this video recommended, great content and great shooting. Subbed 👍
is that the factory stock on that HW80?
No mate it’s a CS stock from Custom Stocks of Sheffield
Thank you for your help 👍
That's a stunning rifle
Is the gun FAC?
Dude, if you shoot with 174 joules, that's 128 fpe, you can shoot a rabbit with that!😃
Brilliant review and compounded my decision to buy one. Many thanks
Nice shots , what muzzle energy does the 80 have. thanks for uploading.
Nice slug-slinger mate! What type of optics are you running over there across the pond 😂
How much feet per second is it shooting with them pellets.
So if you are hunting with a springer, do you leave it cocked so its ready to shoot?
Hello my friend, Thank you for your videos. I enjoyed seeing your Theoben Rapid and Venom Tuned HW80. Your 80 looks fabulous and very precious. I can identify with that as I have a more modern HW80K. Mine is precious and unique to me as I made my own stock, designing it on predators and it is tuned by a genius gunsmith from South Wales called Mr Lewington. If I may, Sir, I have two questions I'd like to ask you please. I don't like using an illuminated cross hair on my telescopic sight as I think my quarry may see it and be spooked? Do you think that's possible? I'm thinking you'll have to take your buddy bottle off your beautiful Theoben Rapid to recharge it. Is this a nuisance? I much prefer a system say on the R12, for instance, where you just plug in underneath your rifle, then disconnect when the correct pressure is reached. I understand those pcp air rifles were in their infancy at the time, and ideas have improved vastly since then. Thank you again for your great videos. Atb!
Hello my friend. Thank you, I really enjoy watching your shots and looking at your Theoben air rifle. Its beautiful kit. I'm around your age group, and so it may sound/feel familiar when I disclose I'd dearly have loved on of those when they first appeared.I think they are just beautiful, lovely design, ergonomic genius. If I had been this age, but back then, there are a few Theoben models I would have purchased. Their gas ram models to me are knee tremblers. Their stocks, metalwork, blueing, design are just to die for, and all british too. Ive put a feeler out, see what happens. You can only shoot one air rifle at a time and so easy to end up out of control. Thank you again my friend, a really great watch.
Mate don’t you know it’s bad luck to shoot them this true white or black a few years ago I was ferreting and caught a black rabbit buck if it had been a doe I would have let it go .I killed it walked down to the farmer asked him if he wanted one as I had a few ordinary ones he said no thenkks it bad luck to kill them I thought nothing of it till about three weeks after I was out shooting and having a wee when I noticed I was passing blood through my penis straight to drs ended up in hospital with bladder cancer .so don’t shoot any especially the black ones mate,😊
Wy dose my HW 80 have a square stock and wot's the difference between it and other round one's.
If your gun has 2 scope holes on the top and an angled stock forend it’s a mk1. The mk2 is rounder and has 3 holes
The action is the same though
I've got a rapid seven. Deadly accurate.
They usually are! Great barrels on them
Hi man, congrats for this video. Wich are the adjusts if you did it. Reg pressure ? Velocit ? What kind of anmunition? Thanks
I thought Sunday it's off.
Hello Sir, I read on utube some time ago, I think it was from America. This gentleman said that the true operating power of the HW80 air rifle was around 16ftlb. As our legal limit in this country is 12ftlb, he said our HW 80 legal limit air rifles have to be de tuned which was no good for the operating cycle of the air rifle. He said anyone looking for a great break barrel air rifle would do better looking at the HW98 unit. This he said, has the correct sized chamber to operate fully and properly at 12ftlb energy. Like you, I love my 80 and wouldnt part with it for the world, though I'm not keen on that opinion. Though I'm no gunsmith, I see only good things with our great spring powered air rifles. Do you have an opinion on this? Thank you, Ian.
You’ve sort of answered your own question! If it shot so badly as a sub 12 gun we wouldn’t like them as much as we do. He is right that it was developed in conjunction with Bob Beeman in the US so they could get a rifle with 1000fps performance, as the HW35 at the time wasn’t capable of that power. When it’s detuned to 12ftlbs I think it shoots beautifully as it barely has to work to get that power especially in 0.22.
@Notts Pest Control Hello, my friend. Yes, thank you. That all makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to reply and inspiring me to go forward.
No problem Ian. All the best to you 😊
Hello Sir, Thank you for your HW80, venom tuned air rifle footage. I really enjoyed it and also the conversation connected with it. I bought mine around four years ago. I always thought Weihrauch's standard beech stock was absolutely miserable for such an iconic break barrel action that I dont think has ever been bettered. I'm not academic to any degree, though I have a love of hand tools and making my own things. I decided to make my own stock. I didn't rush into it and put my heart ans soul into it. I laminated walnut and ash. I did a lot of research, finally basing the shape and design on predators. It's turned out really well. Im so proud of it and adore shooting it. I went the whole hog and got the action tuned at the same time. A gentleman called Lyn Lewington in Caldicot, South Wales, fitted a V Mach tuning kit, an adjustable safety catch and worked his magic and its such a mega air rifle to me now. Lyn is a very experienced gunsmith with bucket loads of knowledge, advice and experience. I could talk to him, ask his opinion, a really great, smashing gentleman and I would recommend him to anyone. Just search Arc air rifle tuning for a great service. I love both spring and pcp air rifles, though they offer two diiferent things to me. I couldn't get more satisfaction than hitting a five pence sized target at 40 yards with my 80. However, when I'm in a hide shooting magpies, the least little bit of movement or noise and theyre off. So my pcp has a ten shot magazine, easy to re load and its lighter and alot quieter, both for reloading and firing and so usually wins the day and theres no fumbling about in the bottom of my pocket for my next pellet. Both fantastic units but different too. Nice to have this conversation, thank you everyone.
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it and was very interested to read about your 80, I’m very familiar with Lyn and his work he’s carrying on with the Venom work with flying colours and is a credit to the profession 😊
are you fucking kill ...........?
I’m not offended but I love crows. I shoot my squirrels but feed my crows peanuts. Just ordered an HW80 to complement my near 40 year old HW77.
I fully understand, they are only pests when they are causing a nuisance or health issue. Any other time they are part of the ecosystem, unlike the invasive Grey Squirrel! I’m sure you’ll enjoy the 80 they are lovely big guns
Excellent work bro.
Thanks buddy 😊👍
Hi buddy have you still got the 80
Yes mate she’s still here 😊👍
@@NottsPestControl would you sell her
Not planning on it mate. Someone offered me £1000 a few weeks ago but don’t want to part with it as I’ll never get another!
You not use the ABL it’s not necessary I see
First half of the video great but shooting crows WHY this they kill songbird chicks is total cobblers that is Grey Squirrels try shooting Canada geese now there IS a vermin carries of Botulism that they pass on to people another dang shooter with zero brain i think you should have you gun taken off you . A disgusting session you kill NATIVE species but ignore invaders and yes SHEEP are an INVASIVE species from the eastern parts of India .
😂😂😂50 cal slug🤣😭😁
American here.. When 12ft/lbs is the limit in UK and other countries what reason is there for a large, heavy HW80 when any of its smaller lighter better handling siblings cant do better?
Good question. I find that the heavier gun absorbs the spring recoil a lot better and because of the 30mm diameter piston it hardly needs any effort to produce 11.5ftlbs which also helps it shoot smoother.
@@NottsPestControl Yup. That Makes sense.
I have my 177 impact set at 30 yards and find very little change at 40,like you said though ,cean kills at the distance you set.
I actually thought the .50cal slug was pretty good.
I've been into airgunning since 2018 and overlooked the HW80 in favour of the HW90 all the time. Now I'm going to buy both FAC air rifles, from somewhere or other, because they speak of the HW80 as an outstanding classic.
Martin what wood is that stock made from
It’s walnut mate
@@NottsPestControl did they make any stocks from African wood mate
Yes it was Hydua African hardwood. I think the profile stocks on the rapids were made of it and also some of the gas rams. I had an Olympus that had a thumbhole Hydua stock. It’s banned for export from Africa now as it’s endangered
@@NottsPestControl thanks mate , Kev g told me last week week but couldn’t remember the name of the wood
No problem. It’s pronounced “Shedua” but spelt something like hyedua if I recall.
What is the best pellets for a hw100kt (targets vermin)?
I’d say JSB exacts or QYS, they seem to be the pellets my fellow shooters use in their 100’s
@@NottsPestControl thanks pal 👍
No problem. Let me know how you get on
@@NottsPestControl will do !
Hello my friend, Thank you for sharing your footage. That's a great, accurate air rifle you have there. How are you getting along with your HW80K? I'm hoping to be using one in the long, not too distant future. In that particular situation, I don't think those birds would have hung around, too much after the twack of the spring being released. That's when pcp's may have the edge. Take care mate, Ian.
Will get you a bag of lime 😂
Not bad kid❤ just shows how much work U can do with spring. Thank you for getting me into sprigers
New subscriber here, love the content. I must say in the beginning of this video, you have a little Col. Kurtz vibe happening.
Hello again from the States. Nice shooting, no flapping, no flopping, instant kill shots. The 45yd feral kill was nice. Both Grey and red squirrels are legal game over here. Are you allowed to shoot starlings? My favorite pest bird.
Thanks Scott. Starlings used to be on the licence but were taken off mainly after grain storage was made to be sealed so pests couldn’t get in. That was the main reason they were shot
@@NottsPestControl sorry to hear that. The starling is a dirty, destructive species.
Had to wath this a second time, what a nice peice of kit! That stock is just tops. Venom kit brings out the guns qualities. I like pcp's but springer are tops. Would like to see more of it.
Thanks Scott it is a lovely rifle. I’m getting out again soon, I’ve had a lot on the last few months but will be in the farmyard with it in the near future
The velocity of that.50 cal. slug was pretty slow, but I guess it would have to be slow to stay sub 12!
True. It’s definitely sub 12!
Nice shooting! I'm in the process of making up my mind about two pellet guns. The HW98 or the TX200. Hard to decide.
Thanks Bob, that’s a tricky one they are both excellent rifles, see if you can get a hold of both to try, if you are hunting you may find the lighter weight of the 98 is the deal breaker as the Tx is a weighty beast compared to the Weihrauch
@@NottsPestControl Thank you for the info. Of the two, which is more accurate do you think? Or, are both pretty much the same and it depends on the person shooting it and the pellet?
@@NottsPestControl Hi, I decided to go with the TX200. I know it's heavier but I'm going to spend most of my time shooting at the range on the bench. I spoke with Pyramid Air and he also said that there is a guy in Texas that can professionally tune it as well. I decided to get the .177 because it shoots 930 fps which gives me a flatter trajectory at 50 yards.
That’s great. If you are bench shooting you may find the fixed barrel Tx is more accurate and obviously weight isn’t an issue. Have fun!
Haha on the .50 cal slug. :) Great video. I had no idea slugs would perform this well at those speeds.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it. They are specifically designed for sub 12 shooting so they only weigh the same as a JSB Heavy
