2024 BMW R 1300 GS Trophy X Review | Is the legendary GS still relevant?
The new BMW R 1300 GS is the latest generation of BMW’s iconic big-bore adventure tourer. Compared to the previous R 1250 GS, the 1300 is lighter, faster, and features a lot of new tech.
But in an age where middleweight adventure bikes are ruling the roost, do big-bore machines like GS still matter?
We were handed the keys to the Trophy X variant of the 1300, which offers the most off-road capability in the range thanks in part to increased suspension travel and dirt-friendly tyres. So, has BMW got a winner on its hands?

60k for 200 hp lol
I’ve ridden this bike a few times and currently Im on my second GSA 1250. I was very impressed with the GS 1300 and I would certainly consider buying one in the future. Its capability on the loose gravel was amazing to say the least. Riding the bike on the blacktop was impressive too. Overall, I found this bike a lot of fun to ride.
The RG3 is a Freewheeler with a faring.
Well a few months ago I took a R1300GS Trophy for a ride along the Oxley Highway. Two hours worth. I have a R1250 GSA that went in for a 30K service. The 1300 really does go. Better than my 1250 GSA. It handles Better than my 1250 GSA. Thing is - if I was going to seriously consider a R1300GS I would think about my use of the motorcycle - the trip to Philip Island a few times over, the trip to Lake Mungo, the trip to the tip - Cape York. All done on the 1250 GSA. Plus my GSA is so much more comfortable.
Should have put the Afica Twin in there...
Is Lighter, faster and more expensive than ever....yeah motorcycles will have the same fate as cars are having, they will be dominated by the Chinese, thanks for the review.
50cc will really not sell me on the 1300. besides the fact that it looks like the lower cost Honda NC750. BMW you really did not do it justice not to mention the new 1300 GSA which looks like a Cartoon character from Lego. I will stick with the 1250GS as it still portrays a beast as oppose to your new statement which i think is trying to address our Gender crap!!!!
The video is too short
Thanks for the feedback @NachoGS. What other topics would you like to see us cover in the video?
The R1300 is way ahead of the R1250, the handling and comfort. I have the trophy X and love it more than the R1250 triple black I had.
Pretty much everything he said about what comes with the trophy version is incorrect
Hey @bobcobb7719, this is the Trophy X version, not the Trophy version. And we can confirm it does come with all of those features (as per BMW official price and equipment list). To clarify, the Trophy X is a variant available in Australia (it doesn't appear to be available in the US).
the trophy doesn't have larger suspension travel
Hey @stocks7765, this is the Trophy X version, not the Trophy version. The Trophy X comes with "Sport Suspension" as standard, which adds 20mm of travel (or "seat height" as BMW calls it). To clarify, the Trophy X is a variant available in Australia (it doesn't appear to be available in the US).
@bikesaleschannel it is available. It is just another "option," as you called, sport suspension .mather of fact, most of the "rally" models have the sport suspension, they sitting on the dealers because most people wants the adaptive suspension, we are not al " super adventurers pretenders" lol
60k Australian dollars you mean?
I'm wary of add ons, the Honda engineers know more than I do, even though budget is a factor. I've added a bash plate and handguards and if I decide it's a keeper I might get the cheaper suspension mods. I've never had a quickshifter or cruise control so I can't miss them. I'm not kidding myself that I'm going to be gunning through the Bush like an A grade enduro rider. I just need be able to get there and have a bit of fun. If you want to get serious off road you'd need to address gearing ratios on the talp in my opinion.
W.A doesn't have it this easy...
If you need ride modes with 44hp then your buying the wrong bike.....ffs.
No one is disagreeing with you mate - we are just stating the facts :)
I'm 5'2 can I ride a crf 450?
Can we just stop talking about the tyres on a bike...unless you cannot ever change the tyre to your own desires, stop talking about the bikes tyres off road.
gives me the shits when people complain about something that's going to be replaced anyway.
As someone new to motorbikes, and on a very limited budget, I want to know about any extra money I've got to spend 🤷
@@MrKdr500 See our repsonse to fanjan7527. A lot of people will want to know if the standard tyres are decent or not. Not everyone will want to (or can afford to) replace the tyres.
@@NoSecondSeason100% agree!
@fanjan7527 unfortunately replacing tyres costs money, and not everyone wants to fork out the extra $$$. And if the standard tyres are good, then why replace them? So, talking about the standard tyres is important!
Price gouging at its finest!!
12k yea right no thx I’ll buy a ktm
Same with Daytona Flert 110 and Honda 110 scooter. It's a good motor bike.
About to take mine to the Simpson for 3 weeks!

When is the Kove 450 rally coming to Australia?
We have reached out to Kove asking this very question, but no answer just yet! Stay tuned!
I wish the 450mt was in the USA already. I'm looking at used bikes because the only way for me to afford a bike this good is to build it myself.
Test rode one the other day clutch was not that great and the gears box was not going into gear could be a problem not sure i really like it but it put me off
Hey Dappa4608, we personally didn't experience any gearbox issues, but it's definitely an important factor!
@bikesaleschannel what did u think of the clutch? There was no play in the clutch it was coming on in the first couple of mm sorta didn't feel that good .
AU $8346 here in the Philippines - noice 👍
Hi Bikesales. Aussie 450MT owner here. The rear wheel is 18 inches, not 17. You're welcome.
Hey Hvntr, yep, unfortunately we stated the wrong number and published the video before we realized the mistake! Technology, huh? However, you can find all the correct specs in the full review at bikesales.com.au.
Wait so how much is the Rush? If this version is 60k 🤦🏾♂️
La tengo yo y cuesta 37000€ en españa nueva salida del concesionario ktm
here in bosnia price is 6k pretty cheap
Its about the same price, AU dollar is lot less then US dollar, little more then 60 euro cent or so.
The seat you have in video is a taller option, so seating is at 870 instead of 820 with basic seat.
Hi @rhumorsky4055, some of the units at the launch (which are seen in the video) were fitted with the taller seat, but we personally tested the version with the 820mm seat, which is the standard seat height.
It seems like this bike is going to give cfmoto an opportunity to be the next Gas Gas
Potential bikesales bike of the year. Loving mine✌🏽 21inch front, 18inch rear
This bike is everyone's dream bike now. The real question is, why didn't Kawasaki make a KLR500 twin cylinder, or Honda make an XL350 twin? Why didn't Suzuki make a DRZ400 twin? Why did Japan insist on giving people horrendously boring "single cylinder" enduros and trail bikes, whilst putting titanium valves, 4 cylinders and 197 horsepower in their flagship streetbikes? People have been wanting something new and different---something that actually sounds good when you revv it up. FINALLY CF Moto did it!
@@starseeddeluxe If they do make a twin cylinder ADV, they'll probably just use the same 180° crank engine
@@ShinzouWoSateSateSatewhat?
@@MudaholicJR i mean those dull-sounding twins from the Ninja 500 and CBR500R, as compared to CFMotos 449 with 270° crankshaft that make it sound bigger than its actual displacement
Great review, do you have the GPX file for the track you rode? Cheers
You will have to jump on a tour with All In Dirtbike Adventures @mick7421 👌👌
@@SeasonalTherapy Cheers, pretty keen on that. 👍
Looks like a perfect bike. Size better than tiny NC 750 X. Price better than competition. 90HP unlike half of that on the NC750 X Good fuel consumption Good for high road and Town .Both. Low center of gravity make it great for Town. It is the most practical buy for city , high road and gravel / country roads here and then . Very nice.
So in hot climates and traffic jams , this bike would burn like hell ? :)
How much is it ?

So are we blaming covid for the outrageous increase in bikes over the past few years? This is just too much.
Quando virá para o Brasil, porra?
Huge selling potential blown up by the tubed tyres and the cheap ass headlight
You drive on the wrong side of the road!
I bought one..I describe it as my CB500X on steriods...👍👍
A good review of a modded bike. It would be wonderful to see a review conducted on an unmodified Transalp on the same track and conditions by professional as yourself or Daryl, providing a real-world assessment of a standard bike without aftermarket modifications. Modifications can significantly impact various aspects such as traction control, handling, and ride comfort, which I am sure most of us are aware of this. Personally, I own an unmodified Transalp XL750, and while it could benefit from some enhancements, it has performed admirably in its stock form. Thanks for the review, good job.
Also with stock tyres offroad/unpaved? Mostly standing I suppose?
The SC Project website says the SC can gives "1,4 hp" gain, which I assume means 1.4 hp gain, and costs $1340 au. The stainless SC headers give "6,3 hp" gain, but only shows up on the international site, and if converted at the same funky rate will cost another $1340 au dollars. So $2680au for 7.7hp gain, but will cost 1240 euros if you're in Europe. The Australia tax plus the Snazzy Bike tax = killer combination!
Now that you spent $1700 on upgrading the suspension, how do you adjust it? It's still one setting for all types of riding. Jeez, even the 800DE has adjustable suspension. Having a high rev engine, how much clutch and trottle modulation are you using in technical terrain? My test was unbearable off road. Nice street bike though, but Honda already has better street bikes.
Needs 19” front wheels. It’s more adventure touring than of road adv
Agree it's a road touring bike not to be taken off road.
@@jonwoodworker did you watch the video lol , they're in the fucking outback lol
@2502stokebloke Yes, I did, and the entire time was a dirt ROAD that a Honda Civic could drive on. It's not an off-road motorcycle. Looks like an adventure bike, but it's really a sport touring bike. One of the motorcycles in my small collection is a 1999 Honda VFR800 Sport Touring, even that has adjustable suspension. How could you take something off road with non adjustable suspension and 6" of ground clearance?
@@jonwoodworker Umm, just get on it and ride off road, they’ve taken them across the country twice. It’s not meant to be a motocross bike dude 🤦♂️
@Corey-pd3mi I did, and it just doesn't work. Way too much clutch throttle modulation, to name one of the many reasons it wasn't for me. I agree it's not a dirt bike and never claimed it to be, but an adventure bike should be able to do some trails that are OFF road.. It's also not an adventure bike. I could take a grom around the world, but why when there are much more capable adventure motorcycles in the middle weight class. The engine is 100% street tuned, the suspension is slightly better than a handful of rubber bands, the ground clearance is 6" once you sit on it, and that street bike air filter under the tank...wow. I am also a life long Honda fanboy and was all set to purchase the Talp, but Suzuki got my money on this one because the 800DE is just the better adventure bike.
Nice review, Honda will be selling a heap of these things! They look the goods also. Great to see the legend Daryl Beattie!
Nice review. I like the look of your helmet, what’s the make/model please?
G'day Nathan, great to hear you enjoyed the review. The lid is an Icon Domain.
