Our Lady & St Michael Church - Workington - Stained Glass Sept 2019
The Roman Catholic Church dedicated to Our Lady and St Michael was built in 1876 from designs by E.W. Pugin. The style is Early English, and it may fairly be said to be one of the finest specimens of this style of architecture in the county, as it is unquestionably by far the finest in Workington. The Church incorporates medieval carvings and alabaster sculptures.
It replaced a chapel built in 1814, on land given by John Curwen of Workington Hall to the Irish immigrants who worked on his farms and in his collieries.
The outside stone is red Cheshire sandstone. Inside the pillars are of polished granite from Newry, County Down and the white stone is Darley Dale sandstone from Yorkshire. The High Altar and the statue of Our Lady and the Sacred Heart are in Caen stone. The figures from Jervaux Abbey in Yorkshire were mounted in the Lady Chapel in 1882.
The Organ was put in 1906 by Hill & Sons, thanks to half the cost being given by the Carnegie Foundation.
Hope you enjoy some of the unique close-up stain-glass window views which have never been viewed so closely since their original fitting in the church some 100 years ago.

Well done, area I want to explore, useful footage, very informative. Tks. Coastal erosion must be a constant problem, expensive too, or is that because some sections are artificially constructed slagbank?

I dont know much about Roman buildings but something seems a little odd about the fort in my opinion. I went to Hardknott Pass just last week and the fort is impressive but half the buildings appear to have no clear entrances.

Very good video, My ancestors lived in Ivy Cottage on Copperas Hill, and I think the remains of the walls are still visible close to where you took of and landed the drone. Very interesting Thank you
My ancestors lived in Park Cottage, just at the top of Rose Hill, on the way up to Copperas Hill. You can see what's left of the walls towards the end of the video! Lovely to see!

Yeah German prisoners built it. Not sure if it was WW1 or WW2 but my Dad used to play in and around it whilst collecting smush on Salterbeck shore. They filled most of it in now.

Always thought it looked out of place, such an ornate structure. Used to live on twenty row at Broughton Cross and used to take kids, when they were much younger, for a walk around the old pit, shame A66 cut through it.

The year is actually 1576. He is my several times great grandfather.
Used to be a railway line over Copperas Hill think it went to Lowca where there was a coal mine, closed in the 1960s, great video.

Where is this yellow field?
Hi, The field is located to the left of the main road from Workington in Cumbria up to the village of Seaton, also included are historic views of a Cold War nuclear bunker and a Victorian reservoir 😀
There use to be metal cuffs on the walls dunno if they're still there. Different music so it lasts the length of vid would be better. With it stopping N repeating I felt like I was on call waiting for a doc app. Took to long to get to the tunnel.
