2024 PixInsight Tutorial

This video is just a newer version of my PixInsight workflow. I've replaced EZ Soft Stretch with a basic Screen Transfer Function stretch. I've also started using Image Blend to recombine my starless and star images instead of Pixel Math. This data was taken with a Radian 61 telescope at 275mm with an asto-modified Canon t5i. I used an Altair 6nm dual narrowband filter. Camera settings were ISO...

Bonjour, Vous avez utilisé un filtre Ha ou juste l'appareil defiltré ?
I don't understand how is your STF all black bars when you start stretching? When i try to scroll with the mouse wheel over it, nothing happens.
Has SeeStar come up with a way to allow it to work in Canada in the winter? I live in Saskatchewan where night temperatures drop below 0 celcius (32 F), from anytime during September, until late April or early May. (In Saskatchewan, where we have great night skies, the December to Feb. night time temperatures are usually between -20 and -35 C). Based on your review the SeeStar will not wrok here for 1/4 to 1/3rd of the year. Any thoughts?
@@donaldmackinnon5587 That seems to just be a problem with my unit. Most others haven't experienced it. But also I can put a portable heater next to mine and be fine!
@@deltaastrophotography Thanks for your note. I guess I will spend the money and see how it works in Saskatchewan.
brilliant video!! would you recommend taking multiple shots and stacking? if so what software to stack?
love your videos and love that you cover small to large budgets and make astrophotography accessible to all!!
Debayered images will usually have a green tinge across the frame due to the extra green pixels (RGGB), You can use SCNR with the default settings to clear that up.
This was super helpful. I just processed my first image I'm proud of. Thank you for the easy-to-follow instructions. I feel like I just rolled over for the first time and am starting to crawl in the Pixinsight environment.
really enjoy your videos do you have one on using calculions to create a mask i Photoshop
Painters tape.
I love your videos so much. So funny and informative. Thanks buddy!!

Good review buddy!
So the Earth is traveling thousands of mph through Space but the North Star never moves, and the Southern Stars are different spinning a different way but they are always the same throughout all of History and you think you debunked something?
I did. You didn't care to think about what I said. You are just repeating flat earth propaganda you've heard. Everything I showed can not happen on a flat earth at all. Polaris has not always been the north star and it will no longer be the north star in a few thousand years. This has nothing to do with moving through space either. The wobble of earth is changing slowly, so the north star will change with it. Polaris is not a close-by light. It is quite far away and to notice any large difference in position whether it be from earth wobble or moving through space would take thousands of years. That being said, trying to polar align an astrophotography mount to Polaris is slightly different in each season because we are looking at it from a slightly different angle since we are revolving around the sun. Something I have to deal with all the time. It would be nice if it was always in the same place but it's not.
Thanks I had no clue how to help my grandson with his photography. Now I do. 😊
You look like walter white 🤭😁
Great. Its Photoshop 2022?
Nikon D7000 good for this sir ?
I just purchased the APO 103 along with flattener and the .8 flatter/reducer. Having used all of the flattener/reducers would you recommend the .6 reducer as an option considering the amount of work to install and uninstall it?
Can this result also be gotten in Canon EOS 3000D?
Love this tutorial! The platesolve part is not necessary if you let PI do the stacking, then it knows exactly what it needs. 70 years old and loving this, thank you so much!!!!
Great video that will improve my Milky Way workflow a lot. Thank you so much! Thank you also for providing the tiff file. Amazing job!
Using the amp to show noise makes it very easy to understand. I will have to use that for my Astrophotography classes. Thanks. ❤
Thank you so much sir. I'm learning lot of thing
Thank you, great stuff! 🎉
Great content. Do you turn off the noise reduction festurrs at all on the camera. Im using a D7500 . Many thanks
Yes I turn off all noise reduction features. I would rather control all that myself in post.
Great tutorial! It helped me a lot. Thanks
Thank you SO much! Glad I could help!
My BlurXterminator keeps giving an error 😡🤔
Nice video Walt. What size refractor would I need to resolve some of the planets for EAA
I got this lense a while ago and you encouraged me to try it out again, as I was kind of frustrated with it.
What we're looking at is the heavens, right before our eyes.
big thumbs up bro
Thank you!
Great job. Clear, concise and to the point. I have watched a lot of other tutorials and often people rush through steps and it takes multiple replays to see where the mouse clicks are.
Really love the no bs, only meat and potatoes in this video. Tons of valuable info here delivered in 18 minutes. Thank you!
Instead of taking dozens of identical images to stack together, can't you just copy the same few images (using different file names) over and over and stack them together using the software?
It won't work because you aren't adding new useful information to improve signal-to-noise ratio for the final stacked photo
wow thank you so much❤
have you tried adding a x2 teleconverter ?
I went dirk
Cats 🐈 are cute
For the day will come when sky will clear up and Clouds will be gone ,I'll be capturing the stars from dusk till dawn.
Hey Walt, hope you’re feeling better real soon and getting back at it. Just wanted to let you know shot my first Milky Way last night. Never really thought about Astro photography until I stumbled across your channel a couple months ago. Having recently retired I gifted myself a new R6 and the Rokinon 24 mm f1.4 thanks to your inspiration. I’m really excited to get back out there and get some more.
Great Tutorial Walt!! I use these steps for processing my images.
Hi, I have a similar setup with the same guider on my camera's L bracket. Do you find it hard to find a balance point with it throwing off the center of gravity? Are these imbalances too much for the skyguider? I'm worried about damaging the guider
I realize I'm a bit late to this party, but I found out that hooking up a mobile holder to a horse shoe adapter and sticking it on top of the camera (where the flash would go), booting up an app that shows up the start based on the phone's direction helps a ton with finding and identifying stars fast.
My 1000D can't even go beyond 1600 iso 😢
What time did you take this? I need to know haha
I took this probably around 11:00 at night. Luckily for me, there was a distant streetlight illuminating the house.
This video is amazing. I used PixInsight for the first time and was to do a decent editing using your tutorial! The only issue I faced is about the EZ Suite unavailability. I found an alternative - GHS stretch. Thanks a lot for the tutorial :)
Really great video! Great job!
