I think the reason why the Chinese built the stations so far out of the cities is because they didn't want to bother with putting rail on peoples land and houses. In China, as odd as it sounds, regular people have a lot of say when the government want their land for a road or a railroad. Some stubborn house owners can force entire highways to build around them. I'm guessing the Chinese didn't want any of that headache (and possible bad press) in Laos, so they just drew a straight line on the countryside and started digging.

This only works if you get into the port, if you book before and the ship can't get into port these companies do not refund as they can still do the tour and it's you that can't be there....

A massive thank you for these Iona videos. Our first cruise this Saturday and was stressing about what we needed to do etc. We watched all three last night, and booked entertainment etc whilst we watched. We are now both far more confident and looking forward to the trip. Its definitely made a difference to our mindset, especially when not realising that our "free parking" needed booking early which didn't help. Also thanks to Ewan for his travel sickness updates (very useful for me). Now cannot wait 🙂

Great video, we had decided to go there in November for our honeymoon, so waiting for them to open the booking. Reason we are going, is also our honeymoon, before flying to Soneva Kiri. Every time we are in Bangkok we go to the bamboo bar a high end jazz club also located at the mandarin oriental, highly recommendable!

Wow - this looked amazing! The views of the countryside and the surrounding landscape were stunning. I've never had the courage to go up in a balloon, but it looked very calm and serene. Funnily enough, the very first manned aerial flight in Britain happened in Edinburgh! It was by a man called James Tytler. He invented the 'Grand Edinburgh Fire Balloon' and actually showed it off in the dome of General Register House to sell tickets. He had a lot of unsuccessful attempts, but managed to fly to 350ft from Comely Bank Gardens to Restalrig about half a mile away. This was in 1784 and he's a bit of an unsung hero. He lined the balloon with paper and had a lit stove under it - so it's a bloomin miracle he survived! Thanks again for another amazing adventure and can't wait for the next one 🙂
