Awesome video
It's a wonderful bow. I love my Tete Beche viola bow.
but,if the slide is very difficult to move ,such as use any method waste two hours not remove the pearl slide, how to do then?
Your rehair series are great and ive watched them several times now.. I was wondering if it has ever crossed your mind to do videos on installing/replacing the thumb grip or winding.. or to do videos on general repairs and maintenance. lots of great videos out there about these various topics but it seems you've put alot of thought and conviction into your craft. i almost said passion.. but i think you made it clear what your passion actually is.. lol.
This channel for is amazing

Fantastic teaching method, and personal touch. The best I've seen, and gives me confidence to try this myself. Thx
Thank you so much Master, Peace be upon you.
I love your sense of humor!👍
Think you for aal ❤❤❤❤❤

Thanks Master Bow Maker. Very informative. Also, loved the litte detours with the hooded minions.
Thank you very much.
i didn't expect, and am delighted to find, the comedy along with the tutorial
This wood does not look like Maple. is this Beech? (Fagus?) I may be mistaken tho
... From the kingdom of Strings You've been executed many strings at once, they lost their Crown 🤭😭
Put a couple of water, then it will be very easy to take of the ferrule. Even without any tools but with your fingers.
Do you teach a class in violin bow making? I’m interested in taking one and becoming a violin bow maker.
You've removed the cork (kind of wooden plug) at the tip so easy with no trouble. It looked so loose, am i right?
The rosin scene was so satisfying
❤
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thair is just still good, no rosin residue, not sticky, dirty, or even oily! Omg im feel so sorry for the hairbow
@@Adrian_AdamViolonDiGerma-tm3nq Hair can be worn down even if it is not visibly dirty. (My bow is this way, haha. It is so hard to play on, it is slippery and the rosin doesn't stick to it for long.) Of course, I can't say whether or not Nehr's bow has worn hair or actually new hair on it. But it is possible that it is simply worn down hair of a violinist who washes their hands.
what if I dip the end knot of the hair in a molten rosin?
Deberías de respetar a las mujeres y no utilizarnos como objetos sexuales (minuto 5:23). Repugnante.
That timber looks like beech
Muchas gracias por enseñarme arreglar el arco del violín de mi niña, un saludo desde Colombia
I have been rehairing and repairing bows for 35 years. These videos are interesting, to see how others do the same work. The process of rehairing bows can be approached in a variety of ways. It does not matter how each step is done as long as the end result is satisfactory. I learned originally to rehair frog to tip, that’s how my teacher did it. Initially I thought I caught on quickly, had false sense of competency. Then when I started working in a shop, the pressure was on, it was pretty grim. There were a number of things working against me, I was trying to use poor hair, most of the bows I was doing were poor quality, among my other things. The thing that made the biggest difference for me was to start over and learn to do the job tip to frog,. Everything just works better for me this way. I’ve watched other videos and the way some people do this just scares me. Some of them put the bow stick and frog in danger because of the way they do things. The last thing we want to do is break the bow.
Excelente didática, na primeira tentativa deu certíssimo, muito obrigado ❤
This is a great series. The rehairs I've done since watching these videos are so much better! You have improved my skill on this task so much! I'm so grateful for your generous heart in sharing this with us. Sincerely, James
Thank you
Uzun bir video
Nice
Fascinating video, full of detail and thank you for posting.
A suggestion and a question: Suggestion: push the comb into the hair diagonally at first, to get as many "arms" of the comb among the hairs, and then turn it perpendicular. You will spread the hair way more, and the result will be more precise. Question: why is using fire at the end bad? I though it was a rather widespread procedure.
This is tradition. Burning rosin powder at the end of the hairbow that has been tied attaches the ends of each hairbow strand to one another, So that the tied hairbow does not shift from the knot if one day the hairbow is accidentally pulled/tensioned so that the hairbow becomes loose. Using glue is feared that the hairbow will become stiff and break When blocked with a plug
@@Adrian_AdamViolonDiGerma-tm3nq I meant using fire to shorten the loose hairs and make them tighter at the end of the process
You're cinematic inserts are hilarious lol
"I refuse" hahahaha
Thanks for share!
Gilles, I've watched a number of your videos concerning bow rehairing. Your videos are always easily understood, step-by-step and at a speed that can be learned from. Also, the element of humor that is usually a part of all your videos is something I very much appreciate. I watched this video as I, for the first time, had purchased a new full pound of hair. I am very glad that I watched it as it will help me hold the hair properly and use the preferred ends for the bow rehair. I learned to rehair a bow from the tip to the frog. Having the best/whitest hair at the frog of course makes sense. I'll inspect my new hair to discern if/that there is a section that is a bit more white. Thank you for offering your expertise online in such a professional way, Gilles.
Clear, thorough, and occasionally funny. What more could one ask for? Where other videos on this topic are vague, this series provides all the key details. Thanks to this series: 1) I rehaired a cheap fiberglass bow. First time I ever tried it. I followed the method as closely as I could, using tools that I had. Mostly, sandpaper. The bow is now usable again. Better than throwing it away, which is clearly what the manufacturer intended, once the hair had worn out. 2) I have a *much* greater appreciation for what goes into a high-quality bow rehairing. I'm not going to kid myself about the quality of my work. I'm taking my fine wooden bow to a professional for rehairing.
❤
What do I do if the mortise has rounded edges (looking top down)
Thank you for this excellant vidio! I AM CURANTLY REHAIRING FOR THE SECOND TIME. AND HAVE BOTCHED THE JOB. THERE IS TOO MUCH SLACK IN THE BOW. I DID NOT USE MAPLE WEDGES, I USED BIRCH CLOTHES PINS. NOT VERY SATISFACTORY. THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THE WHITE PART OF HAIRS GOES TO FROG. I HOPE TO CORRECT THE SLACK HAIRS AND USE SEALING WAX. I HAVE APPLYED WATCO TEAK OIL TO AN OLD CHEC. BOW. SOME CHILD VOMITED ON THE BOW DURING ITS HARSH LIFE. THERE ARE 9 COATS OF TEAK OIL ON THE BOW NOW. I USED WET SAND PAPER TO SMOOTH THE ROUGH WORKMANSHIP OF THE BOW. IT HAS BETTER QUALITY PERNAUMBUCO THAN WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN TODAYS WORLD. SO I TRY TO USE THE COMPROMISED BOW. THE TEAK OIL LEAVES THE DRY OLD WOOD FLEXIBLE AND THAT IS WHAT I THINK I NEED IN A GOOD BOW. MY LAST BOW REHAIR I USED BLACK HORSE HAIR AND IT WORKED SURPRISINGLY WELL. I USED A WORK BOOK ON STRING REPAIR AND FOLLOWED STEP BY STEP. THIS TIME I REHAIRED BY MEMORY AND I THINK I LEFT OUT SOME STEPS. I MAY HAVE TO BUY MORE HAIR AND START OVER. I AM NOT DETERRED! I WILL SUCCEED I KNOW BECAUSE I DID IT LAST TIME. THANKS FOR CONTINUED MENTORING, MOST GREATFUL. C.C.E. U.S.A.
Helpful screenshots: @4:09 fit of the frog wedge @5:52 fit of the tip wedge
Perhaps an ignorant question, but why is this necessary? Why not leave it tied at one end, and keep it curled in a drawer, where you can pull out the hair you need when you need it?
Likewise, why do you need the fabric to "protect the hair" from the collar, if it's all going to be covered in glue, anyway?
Brilliant video, the tip wedge is refusing to move so I will use my chisel !
Many thanks for the tips. How much does a 250 gram bundle cost?
Many thanks. Very useful.
Thank you very much, a very helpful tutorial.
