Very much of the shipping will be automated with processors or low-level AI doing the piloting, navigating, loading, unloading, production, low-level management, record keeping and other logistics. Auch systems don't have attitudes, "rights" illnesses, bad relationships, require food, water, tight temperature and armospheric controls for survival much less comfort, medications, and all the infrastructure required to maintain humans. AI is already going to do that here on Earth. Just take a look at the modern automated production at Tesla. Auto driving cars. Automated robots. Automated trucks. Chips in brains... A massive amount of data is being captured and recorded that will eventually be compiled and utilized by AI. However, I do have a concern that no one seems to be discussing: It seems that the better we have things, the easier things are; the more our social response appears chaotic and borderline psychotic. Can humanity survive utopia? The closer we get the less certain I am.

An interesting point, brought up by Douglas Adams, is that food import/export (even in form of body mass) would change the mass of the involved planets.

I see us humans needing to rely more on supplements based on an individual's needs in our future. In addition to fresh food production/ transportation, an advanced space society would require a daily medical evaluation and a dose of just what your body needs. Even spock would think this to be logical. The plants and foods would be processed for the supplements and also served fresh. Ships dedicated to farming could also provide a self sustainable water supply for growing, drinking and even the fuel for generators and propulsion, oxygen could be produced and stored aboard ship too. I'd propose these ships be staffed with only minimal robotic support. You wouldn't want a CME or other systems failure to interrupt the most valuable commodities being produced. Ships staff would also include pilots for protection and delivery, using the support ships in bays onboard. Overall a ship this size would be massive, holding a city sized population its housing and recreation areas. I'd rather be on this type of ship working and only vacation on a planet . Let's get the Space Force to start building something useful up there that we can live on.

Stimulating as ever. A consequence would also seem to be that for any groups or civilizations that do attempt exploration/expansion, there is a very strong incentive to have extremely stealthy interstellar ships.

Other then special items like Ming Vases or relics like that the only things I can really think would be shipped via non-FTL would be raw materials as by the time they got there they would be able to terraform at least a base for farming which they should have brought with the initial ships if not sent ahead, maybe medical items or diplomats but again by the time they got there any war would be over for good or bad.

The volumes required for geo engineering an entire ocean are mind blowing. You will have to move comets the size of our moon.

Notes: Centers of civilization and military fortification. Less need for ships, meant to establish gates-perhaps automatically. Telescopes and prospecting lenses. Transit or terraforming systems. Einstein-Rosen Bridge. Energy and power siphoning from other dimensions. Negative matter to hold black hole portals open. Black hole portals could destroy entire stars. Black hole transmitters would be more viable for communication rather than transport. BHTs would be more reserved for the upper class or important government messages, being able to get only a few small texts through. One meter transit only. The bigger the black hole, the larger the theoretical traveler. The closer the mouths, the more fucky-wucky space gets. Most likely spherical to some degree. Geometry gets weird. Circular is possible, theoretically. Only one-way wormholes would have an event horizon. Negative matter could stabilize black holes. Gates can be fixed through centrifical force or gravity. Personally myself I'm very fascinated by birds brain. I think personally myself that we would have a much more better and more specialized AI system if we based it more on a bird's brain than humans.

I'm a little surprised that other types of enhancement besides genetic weren't discussed. I know of one ttrpg, Rifts Earth, where one character class is called 'Juicer' is when someone pumps their body with a variety of designer drugs in order to gain peak performance, in other words their turning themselves into chemically enhanced supersoldiers. Considering the plethora of performance enhancing drugs, the blood doping scandal, etc. I can see this type of supersoldier plausibly coming into existence within the next century or so.

5:10 What's funny about that is that in the comics and the old Fox cartoons there were numerous references to attempts at replicating the supersoldier serum which usually led to a plethora of more heroes or supervillains that filled out the universe. Ditto for the Hulk as well, apparently in the Marvel universe Gamma radiation was this big booming industry were people are blasting themselves with it to gain all sorts of effects.

Instead of dimples and rises, maybe mountain pillars and funnel seas. Imagine un-summit-able mountains reaching into what looks to you like space.

The Upward Bound series is probably my favourite part of this channel, since it deals with near-term stuff we can technically build now or in the near future, and has direct, applicable benefits today.
