It happened to me within 1 month of buying MY ,was charged $3500 for the repair.

So far so good, but if something hits the Cover again it will break again..🤐 Wouldn't it be better to reinforce the Cover with some struts?

If this type of fault becomes common enough then it would warrant a custom made part that screws straight in after tapping the battery. It would not be difficult to make.

The fact that Tesla has not adopted this procedure as a service repair method hows how greedy and lazy Tesla is. Lots of cars have service procedures like this

What dreadful design from factory. It is far too vulnerable for a part that can’t be easily replaced. So much for Tesla’s environmental concerns, throw out a perfectly good battery for a 5c plastic fitting.

Brilliant! Nice work. I have heard about this type of damage leading to this repair which is why I installed the aluminum bash plate in place of the flimsy pan. Incidentally I also installed aluminum plating on the rear side of the wheel liners as additional protection of all the coolant lines. My Tesla is lowered and raked so…not much room for deer heads or chunks of ice to move around.

How is this at all in the name of being more environmentally friendly when a plastic part breaks and Tesla themselves says the entire battery needs to be replaced. Insane

did you have any problems with reduced coolant flow due to the now smaller ID of the brass union? How did you estimate the acceptability of the smaller ID? thanks

For the LOW PRICE.. It would be worth to get a small tap handle for this sort of thing. You have much more control. If the pipe tap wouldn't fit in the tap handle. The square could be ground smaller so it does.

Tesla's concern is it's liability in case the battery fails and causes damage to property and persons. Now that the owner of this vehicle has reported this event to Tesla, in returnTesla has advised the owner to replace the "damaged" battery thus making the owner fully liable for future consequences. "Scapegoating."

Thats fixing a coolant system. Not the battery

Something similar happened with my Ford Fusion Hybrid. I wasn't mentally prepared to spend ~$100 on four coolant lines. Instead, I spent $8 on some plumbing fittings at Home Depot, and now everything is up and running. I noticed that many people in the US believe that the only way to fix such issues is to buy a new part. However, often, you could fix it for cheap, and the final result will be more reliable than the original solution. Well done, sir.

is it the same for a 2020 model S like how to take it out. I know the working of the handel parts are different. my drivers door handle will not come out... but I can hear it trying. so for sure the padel gear is broken

@ElectrifiedGarage is it possible to replace mcu1 with used mcu2 from wrecked vehicle? If so, how do you register the new mcu2 so your car and Tesla recognize it?

among all the tutorial videos that show how to remove Model S' door handles I have watched, this one is by far the best! No BS music or intro theme and straight to the business. 2 thumbs up.

Some engineer at tesla is panicking looking up if brass and thread sealant are compatible with stock coolant.

Where do the coolant lines run on the sides of the vehicle? For example, are they towards the inside of the jack lift location under the solid battery cover? Or are they towards the outside of the jack lift location under the plastic side rail panels?

Is this just plug and play? No de pairing or programming to the car ? Where does the car ID come from? ….While that’s relatively easy to remove, I guess you can see why Tesla wanted to simplify that dash for production of later models.

Excellent video! Thanks so much for the window trim access trick! I too dreaded pulling the glass just to fix the door handle mech. It's out now and I'm not sure what's next. The handle presents and the unit "whirrs", but there's no *give* to the handle and it won't unlatch the door from the outside. Is the problem in the handle unit or at the door latch itself?

I don’t think you need to take off that much trim. There’s another video of a guy swapping his MCU who only lifted the top dash pieces to get it out.
